So, I have a question about swearwords and how they fit into normal language.

I know using plain swearwords, like the F word and "bull feces" and and other stuff is banned. But what about words like:

A**a**inate? Or c**ky?

Basically words that contain some of the banned words. Are these allowed? I keep the filter off, so idk, but whats the deal on words that are perfectly normal words but contain swearwords?

Also, why is the word grape (take off the g) banned, but not the word pist (put an ra in front)? I dont get it...

Any clarification pls?

Cocky and assassinate contain completely different meanings far from the words that are banned. You can try using a different word if you're paranoid about being hit with a ban stick, but it's otherwise on the safe side.

As for the last question. It's a very touchy subject, as the word itself may set off a trigger in someone who was emotionally traumatized by the deed. As for why the latter word isn't banned? I don't know. It's just as triggering. As is purposely trying to avoid the chat filter by using the @ symbol, or placing spaces.

Dunno why OOO doesn't actually do anything about people who do this in chat and get reported for it.

I assassinated my cocky

I assassinated my cocky counterpart in LD while muffling their screams with a grape jelly and shitake mushroom sandwich, and then relished this dispute by crafting Orichalcum armor in Terraria.

^ several words there that, when modified, could theoretically be violating the filter.

But in reality, the words you're mentioning as examples carry different connotations than what's actually filtered. The less serious ones (or ones that are commonly used in other words) are more specifically defined by the way they're filtered. The Wikipage gives a pretty good idea of how this works.

For example, the word "assassinate" doesn't get filtered because the way it's coded into the game allows for the filter to catch the actual word in context while allowing something like "assassinate" through. It's hard to explain without actually breaking the rules so yeah.

Makes sense. Jst vondered if

Makes sense. Jst vondered if it would get you banned, becauseI got a tempban in the past for spelling "clockworks" without the 'l.' So yeah.

And i think that the one who commits the deed of graping (grapist), should also be filtered, since it also pertains to the original word.

I still wonder why I get to say crap but not a synonym beginning with S.

Well that clears some stuff up.

One of the members of the guild that I am in, tried to change the guild message, and wanted to put grape in it. It didn't allow it. I'm guessing that he was trying the other word, or you can't really put the word "grape" in the message.

Possibly because far too many ignorant children use the word as a substitute for that triggering word, to the point OOO saw it as a way of avoiding the chat filter instead of being a delicious fruit.
