Sometime I get bored with the concerns over what sort of Armor-Helmet-Shield loadout is best for the floors to which I descend or am about to. So I tend to equip my spiral armor and helmet (called proto gear for some reason) with any normal damage heavy sword of the appropriate level; that excludes the avenger and faust lines of course. Anything that needs to be reached at a distance is met with either my vials, whatever pots are laying around, or my eventual approach to said destination. Unless I make time for it, I rarely charge my weapon. And there is not much use for a shield at times either. With that said...

Statement

The Torika line and the like weapons (ranks 0-5) are good for defense in the case of displacing an enemy to avoid the damage they deal on occasions. With proper judgment, I believe that I can run an entire clockworks gate with just that line of swords and some time. However, whenever I look to explore this possibility, after a tier and a half I tend to get sleepy. Playing at the end of the day probably does this to me. So I have not been equipped with the opportunity to fully explore my claim with that line exactly.

I know I have survived missions with mainly that used. There was an occasion where, out of desperation, I survived an encounter with the Jelly King before I became a vanguard with only a Torika and whatever shield I came into using.

Question
Is there any weapon you trust your survival in so much that you would discard the appropriate armor, helmet, and shield in its use?

The Reasons

There is the matter of those who seem to fair well with only either bombs, guns, or swords. I've done the same but not with the same efficiency as others. And seeing as how I'd rely on the special qualities of particular weapons within each category for survival (pulsar's knockback, blast bomb's knockback, etc), I could not say that I am as effective as the swordsmen/women, gunners, or bombers that I have seen in action.

Well you can debate bombers have been tackling that question since... well... ever! Bombers are limited to elemental defense (at the Kat hood), so they have to trust their bombs to keep them safe.

As for me personally, I trust more my own skill than a specific weapon. I'm not a fan of "offense is the best defense" mindset (I'm more of a "speed/mobility is the best defense"). If I had to pin down a weapon, I'd say the Valiance actually. I very rarely use it, but it has yet to fail me when I have used it. I could also throw in my Lionheart Honor Blade, which is my preferred weapon in the Unknown Passage.

I actually meant to ask the question in regards to one's skill with your weapon or preferred line of weapons. But that much is understood. And the Valiance does indeed come in handy as I've experienced as well. For the sake of expediency when in a party of two or more, however, I've come to use other firearms. And while my frequency of use is growing with others, the Val is also one of my preferred pieces along with the Leviathan.

Yet I guess from my heavy set, which includes Ancient Plate set, I have gotten use to the speed so far in where I know how to make use of the timing of my mobility. And my getting use to the Torika line heavily ties in with my use of the Ancient Plate set. I believe that is how I came about it.

a reasonable idea

Like you, sometimes I can't be bothered to customize my equipment for the floor. So I have a default load out that will get me through almost anything easily. It's sworder armor with Combuster and Acheron. Obviously this setup is overly popular, because it is overly powerful. So I'm not making any claim of originality, skill, or daring. But this is the equipment that I use, when I want to play a little SK, have a drink, chat with a friend, and not think too hard.

To address your point more directly, I could go with either of these and no armor. Armor just speeds up my killing. The charge knockback sends all monsters away from me anyway. Also, I don't need both swords, since each has enough normal damage to kill anything (just more slowly).

Side note: The heavy swords such as Troika and Sealed are more fun, though.

My Dark Briar Barrage has CTR High, so I tend to bring it just about anywhere.

It's nice to bomb without demo armour.

I prefer the Troika lines because of the knockback and the charge. Both, Sudaruska and Triglav, are powerful weapons yet really hard to master.

I still trust them. Quite good damage against any enemy and they let you keel distance between you and the target. Really good against Zombies and Slimes.

Also, Triglav us quite nice in FSC.
