Hello there, everyone. I'm sure that if you've just stumbled upon this you will no doubt have some questions to ask. This thread is the place for you to post them all. Well... maybe not all of them but do post questions. I shall start by answering a few questions that I think are likely to come up.

Q: What is the Spiral Knights radio play?

A: The Spiral Knights radio play is an audio dramatisation of the Spiral Knights mission campaign.

Q: Who are the people behind the creation of the radio play?

A: The concept of a radio play was created by GFJmember, who originally intended to work on a project with Latisan-Sklay. Many ideas were bounced around but not much was made in the way of progress. Eventually, GFJmember mentioned the project to me and offered to let me revive the project. Latisan is now in charge of all of the editing while I am responsible for scripting and ideas.

Q: How long have you been working on the project for?

A: This iteration of the radio play has been in the works since August.

Q: When can I expect to see the first episode?

A: We currently have several episodes already planned or completely scripted. However, we cannot actually create these episodes until we have the necessary voice actors for the job.

Q: How can I help?

A: If you have any ideas, we will be more than happy to take them into consideration. If you think that you can help with voices or know someone that can, please do not hesitate to let us know. Spreading the word by letting other people know about the radio play is a big help and we really appreciate it.

Q: Are there any requirements for voice acting?

A: You are obviously going to need a microphone of some description. We are not too concerned about microphone quality. Our only real request is that your voice is audible.

Q: Who can I be?

A: We intend to have a few main characters, who will appear in almost every episode. If that's too much work for you, we will also have some semi-recurring and one-off characters. The list of characters can be found in the post below. Please contact me if you are interested in voicing.

Q: How can I contact you guys?

A: To contact me you can send an in-game message to me (Sir-Greenlink). You can also add me on Steam (GreenLink93) or Skype (also GreenLink93). Feel free to approach me if you see me. I may or may not bite you so please proceed with caution...

Thank you for taking the time to read through these questions. I hope to hear from you soon.

Stuff you should check out

Struggling to wait for an episode? Here's some other things that you should probably go check out in the meantime:

The Arsenal Podcast - The Arsenal Podcast is hosted by Latisan-Sklay (this show's editor) as well as his friends Zangrious and Lord-Hood. If you want to listen to people talk about Spiral Knights (and other stuff) then this is probably for you. You can join the live recording of the show every Sunday. Be wary of shenanigans. http://www.sklayelite.com/arsenal

Spiral Knights Anime - Targeting a similar audience, a friend of mine (Serjinxable/Solotron) has been hard at work on an animation series. Using nothing but Spiral Spy, he tells an interesting story that is certainly worth checking out. http://www.youtube.com/serjinxable

Here is a list of characters

Here is a list of characters within the radio play as well as a few notes and some lines for you to practice. This thread will be updated whenever a position is filled:

Main cast (names courtesy of Tevokkia) Each of the characters can be of either gender

Filatov - The sword user and paladin. They're the leader of the crew, aware of their strengths but know their limits. (position filled by Tevokkia)

Kemen - A hybrid (uses different weapon types). They knew Filatov before the crash. Sometimes they can be rather arrogant and brash, often wanting to run on their own abilities. More capable than Filatov. They have a rivalry comparable to the likes of Ash and Gary (Pokemon series). (position filled by Magnum-Frost)

Rin - The gunner. They the more distant one of the group. Others are often seen as liabilities to them. They have a fear of greavers. (position filled by
Gobblebot)

Tanis - The bomber. Mad. Insane. Enough said.
'I decided to have a look at it myself but this is one astounding piece of technology that I just can’t understand. I’d love to be able to reverse engineer this little baby.'
'When do we get to the action? I just wanna explode some stuff.'
'Oh hey there. The name’s Tanis. I’m a technician you see! I solve problems you see. Not problems like “What is beauty?” because that would fall within your purview of philosophy. I solve practical problems. Like “How am I going to get rid of a big rock in the middle of the road?” The answer: Use explosives! KABLOOEY!'

Semi-recurring characters

Rhendon - A knight that helps others find their way to the rescue camp. Similar in character to Filatov but more relaxed and less jovial. (position filled by Magnum-Frost)

Kora - Intel at Spiral HQ. Informs knights and sets various missions for them. Can be a little scatterbrained at times. (position filled by Haayleey)

Captain Ozlo - This man tried to remain formal but is easily excited. He will sometimes make important announcements. (position filled by Magnum-Frost)

Lieutenant Feron - An organised knight responsible for many of the plans of the Spiral Order. (position filled by Sol-Ether)

Other characters (the personalities of these characters are entirely open to interpretation)

Squad Leader Greta (rescue camp)
'Welcome to the Rescue Camp, knights. I am Squad Leader Greta and it is a pleasure to meet you. Please, make yourself feel at home. Well.. at least, that is what I would say if we actually had power.'

Schemer Razwog (Gremlin) (position filled by Thinslayer)

Bechamel
Bosco
Biotech Morlin
Biotech Hahn
Chief Geo Knight Wegner

More voice roles are likely to pop up during the future but these are all that we will probably need for the next few episodes.

Feel free to discuss the characters below.

Interesting.

I'd like to see where this goes. I'm only a novice actor, who does it mostly for fun (impersonations and the like), but perhaps I can be of assistance?

I'm pretty good with non-humanoid and evil voices. I'm interested.

YAY!

*pulls out my studio mic with enthusiasm*
Oh boy, this gon' be goooooooooood!

I wish to sign myself up for this, I haven't got anything recorded for you at the moment but I will put my auditions in a later post or via email if you want, whatever works. I can deliver quality sound and acting, I record with an Audio Technica AT2020 and have a home recording studio set up that I built so things like the pesky air conditioning and background noise don't get in (sneaky little devils!).

Do you think you could put up some sample lines to be read for each character? Auditioning can be pretty hard if you don't have anything to say that would be said by the character as per the writer of the character. Also, your character descriptions seem a bit lacking, they can be worked with, but knowing about the personality of the character you are voicing, knowing what makes them tick, is vital. I would suggest adding a few more descriptors to each character, for example, when you say Rin is "More distant, sees others as liabilities. Rather quiet. Has a fear of greavers." do you mean that he/she is quiet and timid, or more of the strong silent type? Sees others as liabilities in a strong lone wolf sense, more of a "ugh, imbeciles" kind of deal, or is just more of an introvert and would rather do things alone? Just a suggestion to make it easier for the VAs to give a good performance in our auditions.

@Mangnum-Frost Your

@Mangnum-Frost Your enthusiasm is much appreciated. I'll go search for a few sample lines for characters where it is applicable. As for character descriptions, you're probably right about that. This was pretty much copied from a brainstorming session and does need a few tweaks. Rin is indeed the strong, silent type. Thank you for pointing that out.

@Valorai People of all age groups are welcome. :)

The first two posts clearly need a bit of work so I'll get to updating them.

EDIT: They're done. Hopefully this should be enough for you guys to work with now. Have fun.

Oh goodie

Welp, I'll start on recording this evening, for now I will get the voices ready and sorted out in my head (the difference between voice actors and the mentally ill is that our padded rooms have a microphone in them). I can have the auditions ready within the next few days, doing the initial lines is always the hardest and longest part imo. I like the new character descriptions and lines, quality stuff that helps a lot! I have a feeling this is going to be REALLY fun, it will be a pleasure working with you!

Could I possibly assist in editing the script? Or at least proof read it? The concept is intriguing, and I think that if you successfully got at least one episode out, a few people would be interested.

A few questions though, how long are the episodes, generally? And how often do you plan to put them out? Weekly? Monthly?

The prospect of voicing something is tantalizing, but it's important that this is manageable, and more of a recreational project, than a head on, 100% of time devoted to, project.

Also, as a radio play, do you have sound effects and music prepared? Or is it solely voice acting?

Imagen de Sir-Greenlink
Sir-Greenlink
@Hexlash I'm pretty good at

@Hexlash I'm pretty good at proof reading myself but I wouldn't mind you looking at some of the script. My partner decided to resign from the project shortly after this announcement, hence the reason why I edited the first post slightly.

There's no set date for getting episodes out. All I would really say is when it's done. I won't be forcing anyone to work faster or anything like that. I understand that some people are rather busy and can only work so fast. This first episode is going to be more of an experiment to see if it all works out.

Several references to sound effects and music have been put into the script already. Adding them to the audio will be the job of Latisan-Sklay. If you would like to record some sounds effects or remix some music, feel free to go ahead and do so.

Imagen de Hexlash

Ah, okay. I'll consider auditioning for the roles. However, as Magnum mentioneded before, and even though you edited it, can you perhaps add more information for the characters? Because I don't know how they act or what they sound like to you, as much detail into how exactly you expect a voice actor to convey them would be great.

Imagen de Sir-Greenlink
Sir-Greenlink
My idea was to create a basic

My idea was to create a basic outline for the characters and allow the finer details to be down to the imagination/interpretation of the voice actor. This usually makes people feel more attached to a character. I'd love to see what you can come up with. If this is a problem, let me know and I can arrange to create more details for a specific character for you. Thanks.

UPDATE: Edited post to make note of the fact that the four main characters can be of either gender.

Imagen de Sandwich-Potato

A suggestion.

Don't use Skype, as that costs money for group calls, and the quality isn't really that good. Instead, opt for Google Hangouts, which comes with a myriad amount of helpful extensions that you can install. Additionally, it has better sound quality and free group calls.

Imagen de Hexlash
Hexlash
Teehee

@Sandwich-Potato, clarification, group calls for Skype are indeed free. However, video chatting or screen sharing for more than one person is not. Google handouts is free no matter what, and also can call any phone number in the US or Canada from an iPod/iPhone/iPad(?) free of charge, if I'm not mistaken.

Anyways, I tried to record myself but it didn't sound too decent. By the way, keep in mind that female voices do not necessarily have to be voiced by females. Just look at Pokemon; Ash, the protagonist, has only ever been voiced by female actors, so I'm sure it could go the other way around.

Also, if you have chosen someone for a role, could you please indicate it by the character name? So that people know that a satisfactory voice actor has been accepted.

I'd be really interested in hearing the first episode, because it doesn't require my eyes, I can listen to it whilst doing other things. Goodluck!

@Xtweeterx Sure. Go ahead and record the sample lines for Feron. You can either send them to me through skype or link me to a file sharing site.

@Cinoa That's a shame to hear. Let me know if you ever feel up to the task. I'd be more than happy to see you voice.

@Thinslayer Tevokkia is great with acting. She's actually volunteered to voice for the radio play but hasn't quite decided who she wants to be.

@Sandwich-Potato Just to clarify, Skype calls are not being used to record lines. I only listed it as a possible means of communication or file sharing. I'd love to help show you ways of recording voice lines if you're struggling to. Just let me know.

@Hexlash You make a valid point. I'm not gonna stop anyone from voicing a character that they want just because of gender. That said though, the characters post was recently updated to make note of the fact that the four main characters can be of either gender and work however you see fit. As for indicating whenever a role has been filled, I have been doing that. You should find that the role of Razwog has already been filled by Thinslayer. I'll keep doing this whenever it it necessary. Thank you for your support. You can send me any recorded lines if you like; it might not be as bad as you think...

Thank you for your patience everyone. I really appreciate the interest and support that you've shown so far. Good luck. :)

Hey! Sorry it took so long, had irl stuff getting in the way, but anyway, I've finally got all my auditions in order!

Anyway, hope some of these are good enough for you! I gladly accept criticism and also, if you feel one voice would go better with another character and (for some odd reason, this is my poor voice acting we are talking about) want me to record some lines using that voice for the new character, go ahead, same for if you would like me to tweak a voice. This was really fun...especially Tanis' and Rhendon's voices, enjoy!

@Simaster
If you have bothersome siblings, you could always try recording in your car. Yeah, setting up the mic and a laptop in the car is a bit awkward as far as keeping everything from falling over and having the mic near your face, but cars can be as good as a padded studio for recording.

Thanks for the lines, Magnum-Frost. I've listened to them and I must admit that they're pretty good. Now I'll be looking through and seeing which ones I think I should use.

Hmmm

Well, I don't think I will be doing any voice acting. Because I don't have anything to record with, I am probably too young to use Skype, and my parents might not approve of me doing any voice acting (I'm only guessing, my parents could say no but I really don't know what they would say), and also I am sick atm and I am coughing a lot.

@Simaster Yeah I know what you mean. I'm almost done with exams and that means I'll be able to focus on script writing. For those of you that are interested, I currently have full scripts written for three episodes as well as at least six more with plot outlines. There are also several more episodes listed as concepts.

This is a bump just to say that I've received quite a few auditions and am thinking of making decisions in the coming days/weeks. Work on episode 1 should start fairly soon after that.

Sorry.

I know I promised to audition in this before, but as my usual luck goes, bad timing with everything. I've been really busy with things in real life and I sort of forgot that I partook in this. That and I feel kind of nervous. So I'm dropping out.

Kudos to everyone else.

Imagen de Thinslayer

^what he said

Except I'm not ready to drop out just yet. Feel free to find another voice actor for Razwog if you can, but even if you can't, I'll still try to find time to get in my voice lines. I just really hate to do voiceover work when other people are around, and unfortunately, I almost always have family around. On the rare times they're not around, there's often something else occupying my interest.

But let's end this on a positive note - I might actually have more time for this stuff when school starts. Counter-intuitive, right? xD

I appears this has been silent for a while. Please do this, it looks so awesome. Sidenote, I'd love to try Rin, but you already got someone and I'm bad on the score of getting in connect, so probably won't work. At all. No need to try. Summary; keep this going, looks awesome.
