I post this knowing full well that some people will come in and start saying, "GET A BETTER COMPUTER, LOLS" etc. Anyway. During the week I'm mostly playing on my laptop, which can do an okay job of handling many parts of the Clockworks. I run into trouble on some levels, though. In battles where a lot is going on (arenas, JK, and especially FSC) my fps slows down to the point where I'm a liability to myself and anybody unfortunate enough to be partied with me. I'll use FSC as an example. On the Bridge, we have 1) an active background, 2) rolling wheels of death, 3) Flaming mobs 4) Flaming floor panels 5) Any effects created by players/weapons/etc. I noticed that the flaming floor panels put off little fiery wisps--nifty, but entirely unnecessary. I've tried tweaking options (turning off/on render effects, compatibility mode, etc) but at times there's just too much going on on-screen for my gpu to handle. My laptop is 4 years old now, so showing its age, but it can still handle other things (WoW comes to mind) without too much trouble. Flamethrower Puppies turn my computer into a nuclear weapon.
TL;DR
My suggestion: It would be really nice if we had more control over aspects of the graphics, and the ability to turn extraneous effects off. This wouldn't affect gameplay to any real extent (instead of vivid fire effects, just red squares denoting that there's fire there, etc, would be one option--disabling wind animations or foggy backgrounds, etc would be another) and wouldn't affect people with more powerful computers, but I have a suspicion that plenty of us who don't have the money at the moment to shell out for a new gaming rig would thank you. :)
I play on a older computer too, and suffer through the same pains. This would be something which was very easy to implement and that would increase the play experience for players who are on older equipment. I second this idea and applaud it ! =D
