BAB vs Nitronome for compounds

The apocrea event has forced me to realize that my prefer weapons (guns and swords) are rather useless when fighting swarms. So I've decided to get a bomb and use that to fend off compound monsters. I'm thinking that a normal-damage, high kickback bomb would be most useful to me, as it will let me blast the swarm away from me and open up enough room to let me shoot or stab my way through them. Between the nitro and the BAB, which bomb would work best for that, keeping in mind that my gear doesn't include any bomb CTR.

Without any Bomb CTR using BAB would almost be impossible, the slow charge and walk speed would make setting the first bomb incredibly hard. The massive damage and knockback is useless if you cant use the bomb. Nitro has a decent charge rate though again without a CTR bonus you will be hurting to start the chain. If you can get the bombs to lvl 10 and use your pet perk for a ctr med you can get ctr vh which would make it a lot easier. If you do that then Nitro will serve you well. Personally though I like the Irontech Bomb (destroyer is in a way a downgrade), its the size of a 5* bomb and gives you nice knockback and damage on the cheap.

Side note: Using a high knockback bomb in a group can be hazardous if you have little practice. Thus you will need to learn how it effects things around you and how to use it safely in a group.

Huh

Come to think of it, doesn't that make Irontech Bomb the ultimate blast bomb in light of the radiant crystal drought?

Nitro works

I can't comment on the other blast bombs, but Nitronome works quite well in compounds. The charge time and movement speed are both decently fast, and the knockback keeps everything away from you. Just spam it constantly, and nothing will be able to touch you. (On the other hand, if you're in a party, then be careful not to annoy.)

...We have found the reason for the drought, to make millions of Irontech Bombs! Now really I thought of Irontech Bomb as the best blast bomb, it is a light version of the BAB, giving it a versatility edge over the BAB while retaining the stun.

Indeed it does.

If I found a blast bomb with CTR VH uvs on it, would that negate the slow charge time enough to make it useful when crafted into a BAB, or would at CTR VH Nitronome still be the better option?

The problem with BAB is not the charge speed; it's equal to haze bombs. The real problem is the severely reduced walkspeed. You can deal with it for the most part, but in situations where you're really in trouble and noone else is covering you, I would only trust my life to a Nitro.

Actually I trust my butt to irontech as much as nitro...
doesn't mean I don't die on occasion, buuuut.

For compounds, I'd say that it really depends on whether you can get enough damage on either to one shot the swarming enemies.. which is what you'd want to do. That way, you'd drop 2-3 bombs and get most of them. I can usually one shot some swarming enemies with nitro when it is buffed, though I don't think I've done that in T3? Not sure, sometimes they die sometimes not. Zeddy would know.

Wow a 4* with the radius of a 5*?

I have a few questions about the 4* version..

Is the 5* bigger then that even?
Is the charge time equal to a haze when you get CTR max? Better or worse?
Is the walk speed still ultra slow like a graviton bomb? (that's the only bomb i have that makes one walk mega slow) or does that only apply to the 5*?

The 5* Irontech has the same blast radius.
Charge time is somewhere between a blast bomb and a haze bomb.
Walk speed is reduced by 40% just like with Graviton. It goes for both 4* and 5*.

5* Irontech has a slightly longer fuse and a bit more damage.
