Materials are meaningless right now and it hurts the game. (A consideration for arcade redux)

So you guys just added this super-cool new thing that finds materials. Well can it tell me where I can find a bunch of really common, boring, 5* materials?

Because thats what I need right now. I'm not like, hunting for that trojan horse shoe to craft that special helmet, oh no. I'm hunting for a grand total of 3 things:

Elite orbs (to craft gear)
Radiant Fire crystals (not just because of the drought, as these are able to turn into shinning)
5* materials

What 5* materials do I need? I don't care because its all going into sprite food. All the materials the same.

So here is what I would like:

-A new line of super-common materials ranging from 1*-5* based on tier.
-A reduction in the drop rate of all existing materials.
-Some materials should not drop, but be found in specific locations

Lets say before I would have gotten the following on a T3 run from basil to the core:
-2 5* materials
-5 4* materials
-10 3* materials
-A bunch of lower star materials that I already have several hundred of and don't care about

Now, I will get:
-1 Specific 5* material; like a philosofeater
-4 Bland 5* materials
-2-3 specific 4* materials; like a trojan horseshoe and maybe 2 rocky cores
-2 Bland 4* materials
-5 specific 3* materials; like 5 brute cores

Basically:
-Halve the number of unique materials monsters drop
-Introduce common materials that can be used ONLY as stock materials; like, if I can use any mat to make this.. I can use this one.

That way, if I want to craft something, I might actually have to hunt down a trojan horse shoe... and if I find a trojan horse shoe, I'll be happy about it.

Then, in the arcade when I'm adventuring and I find a danger room, I should be able to go in and then get maybe, a royal skewer. This royal skewer would only be available to me if I do that specific danger room, which would always be found on that specific level.

That would be nice.

Isn't 5*, don't need it.

Unless it is free. I could resell it and buy 5* materials.

Imagine for a second there

Imagine for a second there was only 1 mat 'line' - that is, only 1 kind of 0* mat, only 1 kind of 1* mat, etc. In such a case the ability to craft up/down between stars would have been obvious, much like we see with crystals.

Previously trying to apply the vertical mat crafting idea to SK would not have worked as there was gaps and bloat in the chains.

The introduction of the new mats (spark plugs, sinful brews etc) was to fully complete and formalize the mat lines: 1 for each of the 4 primary statuses, 2 for each monster family. Presumably the drop remix (wood from jelly, plasma cells from not lumbers) was also to balance out each monster family sub-line drop rates (zombie-kat, wolver-chroma etc). With this in mind it may be feasible to implement vertical mat crafting or possibly even horizontally between lines. That would solve the 'not enough' problem anyway.

The 'too many' problem is ultimately due to the need for energy for item crafting. If you had infinite energy/orbs or it wasn't needed, then you could simply just craft everything that drops into gear and then just sell it to a Bazaar NPC. Crown inflation and UV saturation aside, that would certainly sink mats. No wonder that sprite food and statues don't need energy for crafting.

I'm going to go ahead and say it (again). Accessory crafting. Not sure if it would be an infinite sink, but they are similar in function to statues and much more popular.

Actually not

Mats used to be meaningless--except for when one is crafting. All that could be done with most would be to trade them at vendor for 1/5/10 crs, etc. Now, my 5* mats that couldn't be sold for 50 crs at AH can sell for hundreds--because they are needed to feed sprites, same goes for 4 and 3 star mats; I can sell those at AH for between 100 to 300 crs and use that to purchase 5 star mats. Just invest more into game playing other than grinding out FSC for crs.
