Each level of damage bonus adds about 5% to the observed damage (or about 4% to the theoretical damage, that exists before monster defense is accounted for).

In all seriousness there may be best loadouts but if really depends on how you play. I may use chaos but I have used it pre-buff as well as I played a hybrid knight. It comes down to if you want to be effective or have fun, as the most effective weapons are not always that interesting. Using a brandish may be the "best" but slashing through a crowd of monsters in my EV with a DVS is arguably a lot more fun.
