As many people know, online forums are places of full of colorful arguments and pointless debates. Why don't we channel that energy into topics more thought provoking? Philosophical debates are just as pointless and can be just as delicious as other troll food, but it can generate new knowledge even if things fall apart. How a person responds to the argument of others reveals something about their perspective even if it may seem off topic.
Here's a topic to start things off:
Is it moral for Knights to kill Gremlins? Punch and Vise are clearly friends of spiral knights, but every day countless gremlins are being slaughtered in the clockworks for loot and crowns. Don't gremlins have families too? What if the gremlin you killed yesterday was a cousin of Punch?
Gremlins attack us, but only because we are intruding on their territory. We are technically aliens to the Cradle world after all.
I'll take the.. con side? I think that is the one I am going for right now...
Either way, no it is not. We came here planing on stealing the energy to win a war to save our planet and then even more things went wrong and we got shot down and landed here in a crash pod. That is the plot of the game.
Whether or not the gremlins are what shot us down doesn't matter, if some person was going to rob you then for you to defend yourself makes perfect sense.
"But how did the gremlins/people who shot us know we were here to steal their energy?"
Whether or not they knew this at the time doesn't matter. Why? Because we came here and invaded their space space (What I mean by that is we were in the area near their planet but not in the atmosphere.) That is just as bad as being half way into someone's house by climbing through their windows. We may not be all the way in their house but cog dam it, at that point you are obviously up to no good.
Was the action of the people who shot the lasers right? nope, but they aren't the villains for taking a panic shot when seeing some giant blade shaped thing in the sky. We invaded, they played offensive and took the first shot while we wasted our first move on getting so close we could see their fuzzy little faces.
Do I like killing gremlins? Nope, but I have to currently in the game. I can't be all like, "Please, stop trying to hurt me. I only want to make peace!" as I spam stagger storms to avoid conflicts. I have to fight them, at times I can't move forward in level with out killing them and due to their simple AI they keep coming for us unless they are nearly dead.
Do I want the devs to make that possible? Nope, nor do I want them to make the gremlins more of villains. I like the position the game is in. We, the knights are trying to save our planet by stealing energy from another. This means we are not the good or bad guys, we are just "the knights". The gremlins, devilites, wolvers, undead, slimes, and constructions were all minding their own issues until showed up and made it clear we were all their enemy so they stopped fight each other to deal with us.
BAM, a story with no true hero and only sides. The perfect thing to keep the people actually looking at that thinking. That is why I honestly love writing about this game's world because it is just so complex.
