I just did a full RJP run, playing extremely defensively. This means that I was able to tank a large number of hits without dying. No trinkets, 2 weapon slots:

Armor: Full chaos
UVs: Piercing med, elemental high
Shield: Swift Strike Buckler

Battle Sprite Ability: Bomb damage med
Battle Sprite Ultimates: Disintegration ray, Iron Heart Attack, Seraphic Aura

Weapons:
Dark Matter Bomb
Winmillion

Strategy:
Spam heart attack; use seraphic aura to heal my shield when it gets hurt; Use disintegration ray to hide behind+spam bombs

If I did have trinkets:
Sword ASI + health

---------

But I'm doing this to prove a point: Yes, Seraphynx makes playing defensively possible, no it doesn't help any of the guardian armors. They are still sub par to chaos master race.

How well were you able to maintain the defense buff of IHA?

not bad, though I would have used some other gear.
BTS instead of swiftstrike, triglav/suda and graviton/electron/crusher, sword ASI or health for trinks.
gather as many enemies as possible with the vortex, use heart attack, use sword charge, take the health you deserve, rinse and repeat. electron vortex is preferred due to giving you a better chance to pull this combo off

If you use Drakon, you can buff the defence of your defensive armours with Flame Barrier. Combine with a Seraphinx user's heart attack and you can tank hits for your allies.

How worthwhile is that, though? It's a 75% buff (right?) so it should be pretty dang effective on anything but I'm thinking plate lines don't gain too much from this due to the threshold. I guess it'd work with Jelly/Skelly/Feather.

Depends on your difficulty, I guess.

wait, THE THRESHOLD (I love the sound of it) also exists for knight defense?

Dunno. Probably. Knights and enemy defence works the same way afaik. If anything supports that statement, LD does. Zeddy could probably tell us why in more depth.

What about the exceeded threshold for damage output, using the maskeraith's damage increase cloak buff? If damage can exceed max, shouldn't defense also be able to do the same?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, probably because I'm getting tired.
Maskeraith's Deadly Cloak gives an x% damage bonus before defence is applied.

You sure? Coz maskeraith's cloak and quills are good defensive options as well. Cloaking often saves me from greavers as well as rocket puppies (you can call it the coward's wayout, but that is also the reason why I have 191 SoLs), the quills can work wonders on a pack of enemies(dem slags in FSC), the spread of the quill can debuff multiple targets.

In some way, seraphynx is probably a better offensive pet than Drakon, think about it, heart attack=more health to tank hit while using swords, angelic aura=run through traps.

Ps. Chaos can lick my high-heeled valkyrie boots.
