Just did my first Danger Mission, Ghost in the Machine. Are they ALL this insane?

Up until now I had never done a Danger mission, mainly because I always ran FSC and never bothered with my Prestige missions. Today was my first attempt at one, and it was Ghost in the Machine, T2.

HOLY CRAP WAS IT HARD.

The first floor wasn't too bad. I sort of flew into a panic when I reached the final wave of enemies and saw a Royal Guard, but I managed to bring the beast down without needing a spark. But the second floor made up for it in spades. Getting the keys was, no questions ask, the hardest thing I have faced in this game so far. The right room was so blinding with the roaming spark wheels and the hordes of skeletons and retrodes that proper movement was a good guess at BEST. I burned a spark just to kill the RG quicker. The heart box trap was a cute touch too, like the game was laughing at my pain.

The second key room, the one on the left, was in its own league of insanity. Never have I seen that many slags before, at least not that many BOMBER SLAGS. I had to take out the turrets first because the slags were bound to take care of themselves, but once the RG came in that wasn't the case, and I had to burn two more sparks just to make it out of that room, and I nearly died carrying the key back to the damn gate.

Once I got to the machine, I was like "Seriously, a BOSS!? After all that? GIVE ME A BREAK!"

But he wasn't too bad. It was slow going because my weapons weren't ideal for fighting something like that, but I managed without needing another spark.

Thankfully, the reward was worth it, must've been at least 50 boxes, mostly red. I might get into the habit of doing these every day, but are they ALL this hard? Should I expect this level of insanity from all of them?

The only one that isn't a "Wear X and you'll never die" type of mission is Legion of Almire. If you go into any of the missions save for the prior mentioned in anything that isn't Dragon Scale, Mercurial, and Skelly/Snarbolax+BKC, you're going to be annoyed immensely.

The Danger Missions are only profitable if you do not expend a single Spark of Life. Gear up, or nut up!

No.GitM is by far the

No.

GitM is by far the easiest of them all (ok maybe not).

Think of it this way.

GitM has Shock and explosions and traps in confined spaces. And a boss.

Compound 42 has Fire and Poison and biotoxin-spreading Toxioilers and things that set the biotoxin on fire in confined spaces. And 3-4 minibosses that spread more biotoxin and/or set them on fire.

Heart of Ice has Fiends and Freeze and projectiles in confined spaces. And a boss.

Legions of Almire has Almirian Crusaders and Kats and Deadnaughts and projectiles in confined spaces. And a few mini-mini bosses.

Take your pick.

But the fun and prizes makes up for all of it at the end :D so yes, you should do these daily.

LoA was easy for me & GitM was kinda hard...it might have been because I brought Mad Bomber.

Might have.

Ok, it was because of Mad Bomber.

But overall, it was kinda easy for me. I've done all the Danger Missions except Heart of Ice, but overall, I found them to be kinda easy. I was expecting Shadow Lair difficulty, but they were still fairly hard.

Yep.

Well...They are called DANGER missions after all. It just takes practice and if anything, go with a team.
All of the Danger missions have some form of a mini boss at the end of the second floor.

Heart of Ice is pretty cold if you know what I mean... (bad joke). Bring Piercing weapons and Freeze Resistant gear. Easiest boss...He just stays in one place until you murder him away.
Legion of Almire (easiest in my opinion) Bring elemental for all the Undead creatures and some sort of freezing weapon to freeze the Guards. The boss is sort of like a Battle Arena setting.
Compound 42 (SO MUCH FIREPOISON) Bring Shadow and fire and poison resistance. The boss is sort of like a Battle Arena setting.

tips; my two cents

In the GitM second-floor-west-room that you're talking about, you should not cross into the north half of that room. That's when bombies spring up. Just stay in the south half. I find the east room on that level harder. To make the east room a little easier, take the key from the west room over to the east room, and use it to block one of the shock wisps. This trick can give you much more room to maneuver.

All of these missions become easier with experience. At the risk of insulting you, I find GitM to be the easiest. LoA is a little harder, just because of the final fight. Compound 42 is also medium-hard. Heart of Ice is hardest --- even though I have ideal equipment for it. *Soloing* Heart of Ice is extremely difficult nowadays, because the lost souls just keep coming at you and freezing you. Oh dear. Dark Briar Barrage helps, though.

Anyway, enjoy!

Hint: You know that metal cross thing that's in the middle of the West Room of GitM's 2nd depth? If you walk on the column of tiles that aligns with the top segment of the cross, you can reach the key without spawning any Bombies.

This is all Danger Missions in a nut shell:

Come prepared with the right weapons and the best defense and they are all easy. (In Compound 42 you can walk on poison traps with a full set of Dragon Scale)

Now, decide to go in with unneeded gear and you are screwed immediately. Learn your Danger Missions first, then they will get easier and easier as you do it more often.

But not all Danger Missions are as crazy as GitM. The closest one would be Compound 42 because of all the traps. But beware Heart of Ice! That particular mission is made to destroy Knights!

Wait wait wait wait wait: Bopp thought HoI was the HARDEST?

I did Heart of Ice while carrying a Knight Elite on...well...ELITE mode. It wasn't that hard. Just dash past the lost souls and Devilities. The boss was pitiful. He was like a Trojan with no shield but more health. Then again, I did it in Ash Tail, so that Freeze resistance probably helped a lot.

Now, LoA on the other hand left me little to no room to navigate usually, especially in that room where they spawn Deadnaughts, which take up a large portion of the area given. A party of 3 Vanguards and I called it quits on normal. Compound 42 was just "Oh you think slimes are easy? You guessed wrong bro." With all that poison and stuff, my team eventually gave up on hiding on dry ground land spots and just did another combo on enemies to finish them off. But it was brutal for that poor guy who brought a Striker line. GitM was a jerk face; it's probably the only time where the GoS, in the Radiant Drought, really shines. I miraculously made it past that Golden Shock Wisp part to get to the east gate and back unscathed.

But yeah, that treasure room afterwards...30 Shining Crystals...Incredible. And that was on Advanced for GitM. I wonder how many crystals I'd get for Elite.

I guess the danger mission difficulty depends a lot on your playstyle. For a peep like me who weaves elaborate patterns back and forth between crowds of monsters I shred with Brandish charges, having little navigation room in LoA is practically suicide. For a troll who like to camp in a corner and spam Polaris shots and laugh mockingly, HoI is brutal. If you're more "if I kill it, I don't have to dodge it" than "if I slowly whittle it down, I can taunt it that much more", C42's poison is Beelzebub incarnate, as that one or two extra combos may cost you that many sparks.

Danger missions can be the worst thing you've ever imagined, to the point where you just want to exit the hellhole. The status effects are everywhere, and you usually end up running like heck to regain some shield health or to abscond the heck out of there. More likely than not, you'll be cursing each and every monster that kills you and practically frothing with rage as you waste yet another precious Spark in the hopes that the treasure room will compensate for your miseries.

Simply put? Fun.

For me, Ghost in the machine (that's the shock one, right?) is the hardest. I have done the others a few times, but failed GITM several times. The shock simply destroys my play-style.

I enjoy Legion of Almire the most, and find it much easier since the status's are... well, less immobilizing... and I have mostly perfect LOA gear. And, No fiends!

The ice one is annoying, and the poison one is hard, but the shock one simply sucks my will to live.

I think LOA is easier than ghost in the machine. Heart of ice as greavers and freeze at the same time so that sucks. Compound 42 is the easiest if you have dragon scale but makes all other danger missions look easy if you don't have poison or fire resistance.

Relax, murrdur face, do some more farming before going into another danger mission. Wasting too many sparks on those mission is not worth it.

Here is a list of stuff of what you should get for the danger mission:

C42: the most status heavy and probably the hardest, while HoI has fiend/beast/freeze, the poison and the mobility of the toxoils will give even the most prepared knights a run for their money. Highly recommend haze bombs for this one, shiver(stagger storm), DR and rock salt bombs are all really helpful down there.

My loadout for C42 (I am the bomber of the team):
Armor: Volcanic demo suit + Dragon scale helm
Shield: Dragon scale shield (grey owlite will do, but D scale is better)
Sword: Acheron (doing maximum damage on toxoil even when poisoned, you will get poisoned alot)
Weapon: Acheron+shiver mist (for slowing down toxoils)

Tips
-Avoid standing on the green oil the toxoil left behind, it can poison you and if you use a shield that has now poison resistance on it, the toxin in the oil will slowly eat away your shield until it breaks and it will poison you regardless.
-Poison status reduce your damage out put, to counter that, you should carry slow but har hitting weapon like Grand Faust or just use Acheron's charge attack.
-The final boss room is very hard, at the bottom centre of the boss room, there is a resetable botton that you can hit to preven the place from turning into an inferno.
- Without any poison resistance, the status will last for 9 seconds on elite, by wearing max poison resist gear (eg full dragon scale) will reduce that down to 3 seconds.
-T3 Toxoil behaves almost like T2 wolvers, constantly dashing across the floor and make me miss my Archeron blast. ( >:( ) Kill these little buggers with extreme prejudice as soon as they spawn. (same goes for their turret counter part, kill them! KILL THEM!)

HoI: Heart of Ice, this damned mission has costed me more than 20 sparks in total, making it the worst out of all four missions. However, with the correct weapons, the right gears. HoI can be actually quite easy, since the boss at the end makes the boss at the end GitM look like darkfire vanaduke. What truely makes HoI a nasty mission is its fixed four arenas, each is harder than the previous, some serious fire power and teamwork will be required to finish them all.

My loadout for HoI (I am the gunslinger of the team):

Armor: Full valkyrie set for maximum fiend butt kicking bonus (don't worry about freeze, unless you are soloing, smart teammates will help you escape by just hitting you (it deals no damage but it breaks the ice)
Weapon: CIV(for finishing off wolvers and rescue frozen friens)+blitz needle (for killing those scums)
Shield: Dread skelly (freeze and shadow resistance)

Tips
-if you are doing this on a team, wait for more than two players, that way, you don't have to worry about frozen lost souls.
-if you are a blitzer like me and you like the idea of gunning down wolvers with machine guns, be warned, T3 wolvers are almost impossible to hit, when they are not performing an attack or a howling. A risky but easy way to kill a wolver is to aim straigh for its head when it is about to bite you, it is risky but it gets the jobdown, the timing is crucial here, too early, the wolver burrows and gets away, too late, you get chewed up by wolvers while taking it down with you.
-Tundralisks' cold sputem is a deadly trap, if you walked onto on of the cold goo, there is a likelihood of you been frozen. So watch out for those.
-Greavers and Trolljans will spawn in most of the arenas, I don't think it takes a SK verteran to realize how annoying they are. So bring either a FF or a blitz, coz these guys will rock ur world.

GitM is the only danger mission I ever do

Honestly, I find exactly three places where it's hard.
The hardest one is right key room on the second level. All those static wisps really leave little place for maneuver, and last wave, with deadnought constantly resurrecting bombies is hell. I usually run around, shooting off Mechaknights, and trying to freeze as many zombies as I can. When mechas are down, deal with the deadnought.
The second hardest is left keyroom, but it's pure hell if you don't know a simple trick: DO NOT go to the top half of the room until you're ready to grab the key! As long as you stay in bottom half, bombies don't spawn. Use your shield to get past the rotating beam, or stick in the corner of central cross to avoid it.
And the last one is very beginning of the first level, where you have very little place to maneuver.

As for the boss, there is a trick allowing to defeat it pretty easily. I'll give you a hint: wires & corners.

Ghosts in the Machine was my first danger mission too!

I loved every moment of it. For now, you should party up and learn how the levels work - the key trick Bopp said earlier is an example (in fact, you can move the wisps with the key too!) and often there are traps laid out that players only learn how to deal with through experience.
Ghosts in the Machine is my favorite danger mission, but that might be in part because I love fighting constructs. A good resource for both danger missions and appropriate gear is on the Spiral Knights wiki.

Well, I did legion of Almire

Well, I did legion of Almire today. Blew about 20 sparks right at the end just to get through it. The mission itself isn't too bad, it builds you up with a false sense of confidence.

And then you reach the final room and horror washes over you in a black and stinking wave as you realize your folly. There is no victory to be had.

Seriously, how in the hell is the design of this last room fair in ANY way? How was it at all intended to be manageable by solo players, or by anyone but the best of the best (or at least the ones without a buttload of sparks to burn)? I used ALL my sparks here, I have zero left.

But at least I did get an Eternal orb out of it, and 24 Radiant crystals.

I'd just like to point out that for all danger missions , a mist bomb of some sort is very useful.

Ie shiv for c42, stagger/VV/VT for HoI, shiv/VV/VT/stag for LoA, Stagger/ shiv for GitM.

And honestly with pet perks now most people should easily be able to achieve fire immunity in C42, shock immunity in GitM, freeze in HoI.

And what Illumielle said, a party is always best.

Take a blitz needle on all

Take a blitz needle on all missions but C42. It wrecks the GiTM boss, Is an obvious choice for the pansy ice trojan, and helps a ton against the almirian knights and swag guards in LoA.

For C42, you NEED fire resist, and prrobably elemental since those fire chains are beastin.

I actually ran C42 once with fire max on a volcanic set (2 maxes). The oiler fire cannot hurtt you. You will pretty muuch only be poisoned. Now the fire chains....those WILL wreck your life.

In order from hardest to easiest imo:

C42 (Need fire resist or you are F*****)

HOI (Pretty easy, but one misstep and no freeze resist can ruin your day. But blitz honestly takes care of everything)

GiTM (Similar to HoI: Quite easy, until you get shocked. If a mecha knights starts charging theirr 360 no scope charge and you are out of dash, start praying)

LoA (Just a bunch of undead with more enemy variety. Everything is stupidly easy, but the last room spawns so much crap that you might get sniped by either a swag guard or a stray howilitzer bullet).

CTR DMG ASI MAX blitz. Youre all set.

Hm...

Everyone here seems to have their own opinions on which mission is the hardest. This might causes issues, I am gonna show my opinions just to show you that.

Easiest to hardest:
1. Compound 42
2. Legion Of Almire
3. Ghosts In The Machine
4. Heart Of Ice

Now, you must be wondering why I find CP42 the easiest. As you may have noticed, these missions difficulty's can be very notable when using certain gear. Using Dragon Scale set in CP42, one poison and fire trinket makes it a pushover. However on Elite, you can still get set on fire and poisoned, as Elite Difficulty makes it strong enough to go through your stat defences. However they are so weak you shouldn't worry about them too much. They only last for about 3 seconds, about 6 at the very most on strongest inflicts. The ticks from the fire is very little and sometimes you won't notice it. Because of this, it's still possible to blaze on in and kill everything, just make sure to shield, dodge or interrupt the toxoils due to their love to spam thorns.

Heart Of Ice is another story, even with correct gear, you can still get your wolver kicked by the Devilites. This mission is mostly about timed hits, dodging, shielding and interrupting. Seraphynx is very strong to use here due to it's bubble shield, it can still go down quickly though in about 2-4 hits. However, sometimes I seen Overtimes one shot the shield with their melee attack. It's just those devilites mostly that make this mission hard, (Possibly also Greavers if you have trouble with those) other then that, it's not too much of a deal really. Also to note, because of the wolvers habit of spamming borrow/teleport, you can end up getting completely surrounded by groups of them, and unable to move unless you shield-bump them away or shield bash out.

my 2 cents

Gitm loadout:
Mercurial set, shock med UV on sprite
Grey owlite shield
Trinket of your choice
Swords: Glacius or Combuster
Gun: Polaris/AP

What you need to know: Nothing basically, drones can't hurt you at all and you get 3 seconds shock status, one shock and you are DONE!

Side note: You can use the left key to push drones on the right if you don't have shock immunity. You can use dodge to go over lasers against the boss and if you DON'T MOVE AT THE BOSS, HE SHOULD NOT TARGET YOU!!! (it truly does)

LoA Loadout:
Snarbolax or Vog, depends if you want ASI max or DMG max (BKC is a good idea too)
Crest of Almire (or BTS if you want dmg)
Sprite UV: to your liking, defence or offence here is no real issue, LoA is easy
Swords: Any Brandish will do
Gun: Polaris/Ap

What you need to know: ZOMBIES!!!! BRAAAAIIIINNNNSS!!!!

Side note: slags and spookat are annoying, take spookat out first is my suggestion

HoI Loadout:
Skolver set (some people go with snarbolax so they get shadow def so delities does less dmg but wolfy pack a PUNCH! Know this!)
Sprite UV: Either freeze med or MSI med, depends on how good you are at dodging and weaving in/out of bullet hell-hole (I know I can, thanks to Stepmania and SHMUP)
Bullet hell-hole exemple
Dread Skelly shield (obviously)
Swords: whelp HoI being the hardest one I suggest going with what's best for you overall. Combuster is obvious but BTB can be a nice 2nd option to get those pesky wolver... (and to dodge too!)
Gun: You NEED a blitz for the last boss, bring a polaris to keep mobs at bay if you have any difficulties (Polaris spam devilites in a corner = GG)

Side note: This is THE prestige mission I tackled the most since I was soloing every prestige mission (with mist energy). The only good tip I can give to this is to do it as a team, soloing it is PRETTY HARD AND ONE OF THE HARDEST CHALLENGE IN THE GAME!!!! After beating HoI alone (no rea), my next challenge is Snarbolax SL solo, you can see where it stands in my challenge list.

What you need to know: Facing the last boss alone: take out the devilites first, you will have an easy fight afterward (don't use blitz unless you have ASI VH and CTR VH, when facing the boss alone)

What you need to know: Facing HoI in group: Make one of you take Voltaic and put one or two per arena wave, you will laugh at how HoI becomes easy (seriously, try it)

C42 Loadout:
Vog set, get offensive uv on your sprite (ASI or dmg, to your liking)
Dragon scale shield
Sword: I use glacius and nightblade mostly
Gun: Sentenza for big jelly glitch (killing big jelly at the end through gates) or driver (to hit that switch on the arena that has a water bubble and jelly spawns up top)

Side note: C42 is really easy, I have nothing to say about it other than those 2 glitch already mentionned. Shivermist is always nice to keep mobs at bay.

What you need to know: Hit, hit, dodge, hit hit, dodge... if you don't wanna go in, charge, then hit, charge, then hit. Also don't forget to dodge!

And with that you know everything I know and how I do my prestige missions on my own... I don't recommend doing HoI alone... you WILL ragequit

once you get used, all are easy

They are only hard in your first run. Once you get familar with each danger mission and learned all tricks, you would agree to that. Until then you will get a hard life.

Therefore I recommend you to join a party and see how they do stuff. Usually there is always a guy saying 'do not cross this plus' (GitM) or 'do not cross that gate' (LoA).

Remember these tricks and you will advance yourselfe to a point at which you can solo it.

But let me add this: Compund 42 can be a hell of spamming if you get no resistance, but toxoil-fire can be completely nullified if you use two parts with a natural fire and poision resistance and only one additional UV/pendant/Sprite perk 'low'. (This does only count for toxoils; for other fire/poision sources, you need a higher resistance level.)

My personal ranking in these danger missions from easiest to hard:

1) GitM - as gunner you can shoot at the souls and once you know all tricks, you will agree. I recommend chaos set here.

2) C42 - With resistances there is nothing to fear after a few runs. Just think what switch you really want to shoot first. Dragon Scale or its 4 star equivalent recommended.

2) LoA - As you figured out, it is pretty easy but the last wave, chaos recommended. Hint: Walk clockwise in the secound depth, if you play in a group - mistakes in the north-east room wouldn't wight too hard is someone messes around.

3) Heart of Ice - It is hard if you can't handle fiends. I recommend bringing that Snarbolax bomb with my Shocking Alchemeter (Just can't remember names of these, feel free to add). Chaos set recommended.

Mhm.

Chaos in Heart of Ice will freeze the crap out of you. Not recommended. In fact, take snarb or skolv.

jenovas...

You know that after 2 comes 3?

And that Chaos in HoI... alone... is the worst idea... ever.... of all time!

freeze in Heart of Ice

Wearing Black Kat Cowl and Snarbolax Coat (freeze+7 total) does very little against the freeze in Heart of Ice. The solution is not armor. The solution is to avoid getting frozen, particularly by lost souls. The simplest way to dodge lost souls is to ensure that your party size is at least 3.

You can't sustain my releases!

Seriously. Legion of Almire 20 sparks? I do no sparks at all....unless there is lag. The tip: Use a brandish charge weapon and the Fang of Vog. Reserve the Fang of Vog and charge it on the end Almirian Shadow Guards. Even though it seems impossible, the charge kills them instantly if you time it right. No healers to worry about. So bring some remedy capsules and get going.

Black Kat Cowl + Snarbolax + freeze perk = 10 points which is fine for souls, wisps, wolvers and greaver haze.

for GitM I used Perfect Mask of Seerus + Grey Feather Cloak, the extra fire resist is so I can use FoV in there for deadnaughts/the boss.

LoA is the only one I'd use chaos in as status isn't that big of a problem.
