Originally, I was going to wait until the Gunner Update came around, but since it's been delayed I'm thinking of starting to get a few...
I know the whole rule of piercing, shadow, elemental, and such, since it goes for all weapons...
But which ones should I craft up to before the big update.... Or should I wait?

The only 5* gun I have currently is a Neutralizer (I'm one for explosives :3)
I'm also working on a Strike Needle/Blitz as well

I'm more of a Swordie, which takes up most of my Arsenal, then the close second is bombs.

hybrid or gunner? try all gun styles

Do you want a gun as a sidearm to your swords? Try the "Mixing weapon types" section of my sword guide. It discusses the elemental guns mainly. But Blitz Needle is the most popular choice for Vanaduke, Legion of Almire, etc.

From your acknowledgment of "piercing, elemental, shadow", perhaps you are planning a pure gunner load out? I'd go with Storm Driver (or Nova), Umbra Driver, and Blitz Needle (or maybe Callahan for fun). But you should try a variety of gun styles, to find the mix of damage output, ease of use, and novelty that you enjoy.

Maybe you could ask a more specific question.

@Bopp

I'm already a hybrid(sword/bombs), but I have almost...no skill when it comes to guns, so I'm trying to get into it.
I'd probably hybrid it out again with swords/guns, but I'd probably have some full gun loadouts as well.

Bopp says Alchemers and Blitz. I say Biohazard, Callahan, Supernova, and Volcanic Pepperbox. Go with Bopp's suggestion if you want to be powerful, go with the latter if you want to have fun every once in a while.

Well there is the antigua line you should look into, the AP and sentenza (or silversix and blackhawk thanks to the radiant drought) are good guns to get into sword gun hybrid. They have a six shot clip that can finish off a zombie on solo and do quite a bit on team. And if you think crafting two guns is a waste of mats and orbs, there is always the blaster option, the one gun you can bring to any advature. This gun packs a punch in T1 & T2, but after that, even the valiance will start to feel like what Abony and Ivory is to Dante.

Krakob, in my post, I did explicitly say to "try a variety of gun styles, to find the mix of damage output, ease of use, and novelty that you enjoy." I even mentioned Callahan.

The fundamental problem in Arsenal advice is that (A) the goal of playing SK is to have fun, but (B) what's fun is almost entirely subjective and non-advisable. So my strategy is to give people advice on weapon "power" (which is less subjective), in case that's what they want, and to encourage them to try a variety to optimize their own fun.

Yeah but you weren't specific enough :V
I do agree with you, though. Perhaps fun would be more fun if fun wasn't restrained due to other weapons being more powerful.

wait

Wait --- are you suggesting that the weapons might not be perfectly balanced? You, sir/madam/kat, have crossed the line.

Hey!

So I'm mostly a sword/bomber too. However, I have a personal tendency towards using my Blackhawk for several reasons. It has the fastest semiautomatic rate of fire, so is easy to use, and dishes out great damage against gremlins. Easily breaks healer shields and can be used for strafing/spamming against swarms of other gremlins. Also, it is the best style of weaponry for clearing out candlesticks. Seriously. Besides those, it provides fair cover fire for fellow swordie a that have more appropriate weapons for the situation and can be used to flinch devilites in emergencies.

TL;DR: Antigua line of your choice.

I for one am going to craft

I for one am going to craft and heat a Master Blaster. Besides being the best name in the game, I'd like to get used to it's playstyle and probably use it in Lockdown.

If I get enough radiants i'm going to make an Iron Slug as well.

My advice is get any gun but a pulsar.

I would never make such foul claims, my good Bopp! Questioning Three Ring's ability to balance content is beyond wait yeah this game is a bit unbalanced.

What's so bad about...

Pulsars? Yes, I do know that people who play LD hate them with a passion, but in PvE aren't they useful there as well?

So hm... Another Cata(for BioHazard), or Blackhawk?

not inherently bad, but often badly used

Pulsars are not inherently bad. They're actually quite potent for crowd control, and I've seen them used well.

But more often they are used poorly: An unskilled player just sprays Polaris bullets all over the room, knocking back all of the monsters, making it hard for other players to operate. That's the main reason why Pulsars are disliked.

A secondary reason is that Pulsars let you complete fights without much skill, and high-brow players don't respect winning without skill. I'm not saying that this is a good reason to dislike Pulsars, but it certainly exists among the players.

hm...

If you do a solo run the Pulsar is a pretty good sidearm, even tho its a bit boring.
In varoius Teams the Antigua line is more suited and it wont cause pointless drama and flameing from the other teammates.
I am tempted to try out an Alchemer gun at one point or a Catalyser even tho they require a bit of practice.
Trying out new weapons is in general a big NONO in partys....

Long Story short:
At the end it all comes down to your personal choice. If you have fun with your gun then you made the right choice.
