Hey buds, hows it going

Fairly new to the game and thought it'd be a smart idea to get an answer for this.

Since you can pick your difficulty, I assumed that elite would give you extra drops, or at least more heat/crowns right?

And if this is true, there's really no reason to do the easier difficulties at all, right?

Well...

Yes. Elite gives many more crowns and such, with a higher chance of rarities like Orbs and Sparks. Enemies do more damage. However, most people in Tier 2 only do Normal or Advanced runs because they aren't used to the monsters actually posing a challenge.

But yeah, if you know how to fall back and do crowd control, there's no reason to not do Elite if you can handle it.

Why I gotta put a subject

Alright, thanks for the answer

I was doing normal at the start, since I'm blind and somehow didn't notice the difficulty option. Thought the game was the easiest thing ever made with that.

Least with elite, sometimes things will give you a surprise

yes

Yes, elite will give you more rewards, and it's probably more fun for players such as you.

By the way, the game gets more challenging later on. In particular, your armor gets stronger as you progress, but the monsters are able to inflict MUCH more damage. At the start of the game, you might be able to withstand 10 or 20 hits before dying. Later in the game, you might be able to withstand only 3 or 4 hits before dying. So you have to play better. That said, hardcore gamers may never find this game very difficult.

By the way (again), until 2013-07-30, there was only one difficulty level (the one that is now called Advanced). In the big 2013-07-30 release, the addition of Elite difficulty was an improvement welcomed by many veteran players. I'm not sure that anyone welcomed the addition of Normal difficulty, but maybe it helps keep the really casual players?

Welcome to the game, and enjoy!

Normal level allowed me to

Normal level allowed me to get through the later missions, some of which I didn't have the best gear for. If you aren't the skilled, don't have good gear for a specific level you want to get past, are low on sparks of life, or want to use sub-optimum gear so you can heat some gear, normal difficulty is pretty useful.

Oh boy

At the point where you gotta have all 3 star stuff for that quest thing

Stuff really does just spike up in difficulty, I'm actually dieing time from time (Yay for that free rezz per floor)

I'm quite looking forward to the higher up stuff now

Oh, just be very ready for T3, don't go there (hall of hero and get your certificate) until you got a set of 4* gear for piercing/elemental as well as shadow (that is three sets of armor). As for shield, try to get a wise owlite shield in case you don't already have it, you will need it for the end game boss. I won't give you any advice on weapons since I have no right on deciding what weapons you choose for your journey ahead.

ps. Did I ever tell you that Kats in T3 shoots three bullets for their ranged attack? Also, don't be shy and try the mission on easier difficulty first.

Armor sets

Ah, I wasn't sure how important it was going to be to get different armor sets for the dungeon things

Hopefully more alchemy/craft orbs things drop so I can make the armor when I get there

Be warned, wearing a set of armor that doesn't have the correct defenses for the level will get you killed deeper into the clockwork. The differences might be small now, but it will get larger as the things get harder. Not going to lie to you but this game will certainly punish you for wearing the wrong dress to the party (unless of course, you mastered dodging and never get hit).

And as for orbs, you can always buy them from Kozma to speed up the progression (press 'K' and you can buy(real money currency) with Crowns (in game currency)). The drop rate is significantly lowered, (damn you OOO >:( ) so don't be to stingy on spending money on orbs after a day of fruitless grinding. (you should get some money for grinding anyway.)

ps. you have to spend money now to make them later, so don't hold back. I have done almost 300+ RJP elite runs from my first day till now, I can say roughly 42% of all the money I earned in SK came from that place. So get used to grind in the palace and you will be fine for the upcomming onslaught,.

I can now safely say I understand what you're talking about with the wrong dress

Just did a random run to hopefully get some orbs (Got 3, new sword, woot) and they really do start smacking you around if they get their hands on you

No reasons?

Go do FSC in elite while wearing 3 star gears and tell that to me again.

@Cmeresweetheart

Wait, if I'll need full 4 to get there

Why would I randomly toss on lower gear to do it?

challenge

To challenge yourself. Or, in this case, for Cmeresweetheart to challenge you.

People do FSC wearing 0-star armor and shield, for fun. Most of these people use 5-star weapons, though. If you want a really hard time, use only 0-star weapons too. You have to hit the enemies many times, without ever getting hit yourself. So you have to play close to perfectly.

Obviously, if you're new to the game, then you can leave such challenges for the distant future.

@bopp

I did a 1* fsc run... its nigh impossible due to the amount of dmg you're doing.
Super Stun gun was incredibly useful tho, especially with that UV that you get on it :P stunned vana like a million times.. didn't make it though.. takes faaarrr tooo loooonnnnnnnngggggggggg

using 5* weapons is much easier, since you only need to worry about not getting hit. I have finished vana recently using that option with an emberbreak suit (is that cheating)... I had 2 fire high uvs also :P

Wait wait wait wait wait: You should have different armors?

I didn't know that. I just crafted Skolver and somehow didn't die at all save for an occasional lag spike in FSC Elite or in Vanaduke's Throne Room. Huh.

I use the search bar a lot to

I use the search bar a lot to find what I need instead of being an annoying butthole and asking the same question a million have asked before for me and as such I usually go off on tangents as well so I can fully grasp every facet of the game. just because I actually like this one.

I prefer using a sword since I play this with a controller. accurate aiming requires a mouse and all ive got is a touch pad.
usually I run elite for the extra cash it provides, I pack my sword and I pack my gun. sword for the hack 'n slash I love to do, but when it gets messy I break out the gun and strafe the mob. I solo most everything because that's just how I am.
for the builds ive read, I see most people using two specialized swords, but for my tactics this really isn't an option unless I get an extra weapon slot so I can still have a long range weapon.
regardless of what they say, you really should bring a knife to a gun fight, just as long as you don't forget your pistol.

I enjoy the challenge it provides, I get bored easily and this keeps my attention. trying different positions on the same run, different order of operations etc. kill this guy first, charge and wait for the mob to bottleneck. different stuff to keep me occupied while I wait for my company to find work for my poor out-of-the-job self
