Energy Cores/Souls Drops

So the following suggestion is an attempt to create more incentive to use "energy" to activate gate, mecha knights, turrets, etc.

What are Energy Cores?

Energy Cores are the cores/souls of monsters that have been unnaturally energized. Should a monster be energized and killed before the energy can escape their body, the energy infuses with the core/souls of said monster and condenses into a small orb, later identified as Energy Cores. These energy cores have a very similar make up crystallized energy, except because they are infused with the souls and other impurities of other monsters, they are fairly unstable and do not last very long

What do they do, and how are they used?

Before I explain where they are obtained from, Ill explain how they physically function. As noted above, they are a drop from monsters (which kinds will explained later as well). and work similarly to capsules. They consume one of the 4 capsule spots, and you can hold up to three. 1 or 2, actually do not help you much. I'm not quite sure, but consuming one will either create a small, purely aesthetic burst of energy as you release the soul trapped inside, or provide a small energy explosion, with roughly half a square or so of push back and no damage. What ever it may be, it will be fairly insignificant and only serve as a method to remove them from your inventory. When you get three is when they're purpose really comes out. To put it simply, it works exactly like energy, allowing you to open gates, activate turrets, and all those other things you can do with three energy. That is their main purpose. Again, Im not so sure about this next feature, its up to debate, but all three could also be released as an energy explosion similar to one you make when you use a spark. Perhaps a little smaller. This however is not its main intention and can just as easily be left out. Finally, as stated in the paragraph above, energy cores are incredibly unstable. As a result, they disintegrate once you leave the clockworks, just like any other capsule.

How to I get these Energy Cores?

Every now and then a monster will spawn with a bolt of lightning, and appear to glow a faint blue. This faint glow serves as an indicator that the monster has been unnaturally energized and if killed will drop a single energy core. However there is a catch, or a few actually. First, the energy will give the monster a slight buff. What exactly this buff will be is subject to debate. The most likely would be a slight ASI and slight Damage increase. Base health and defense would not change. Secondly, they buff and the energize...ment would only last a short time, roughly 20-30 seconds. Essential long enough where a single person would not be able to out DPS the time limit in a party of 3 or 4. Only stronger type monsters will spawn energized like alpha wolves, large lichens, lumbers, Trojans (hue hue hue) etc. Killing one within the time limit drops one energy core for everyone. Ideally energized monsters will spawn on average 3 times every 4 levels. Of course its not only random, but slightly dependent on the type of level, so that number may be lower or higher. Has a much less chance of occurring on normal difficulty than elite. Oh and energy cores may possibly spawn in red boxes. Dunno up to debate

Wrap up
- Energy Core are small orbs of impure crystal energy
- Occupy a capsule space and can be used to as energy for gates and wot not.
- Cannot be carried out of clock works
- Drops from energized boss like monsters such as alpha wolvers that receive small stat boost
- Energized monster are only energized for a short time

Undecided
- A decent name for Energy Cores
- The stats boost energized monsters will have. Possibly low ASI and Damage increase
- What using energy cores by themselves as a means to get rid of them will do.
- How long the monster will be energized

Just as a final word, the purpose is to actually make gates and wot not worth while. While they can be obtained for free, it will often require teamwork and quick thinking to earn the chance to use all three. And hopefully the system will then encourage more turrets and other cool devices to be implemented into future levels, as people will actually use them

A nice idea to get people using using energy-based gear/gates in the arcade. Although a few changes

The energized monsters should stay permanently energized. In exchange, only newly created ENERGY monsters should be energized. Each monster class would have a single ENERGIZED monster:

Gremlins - a gremlin thwacker that does 3 consecutive attacks instead of 2. It has a slightly larger reach than normal thwackers and wields a weapon similar to a rocket hammer (appearance is of it's tier)

Constructs - a giant lumber with an axe for an arm. He turns slightly faster than normal.

Beast - An alpha wolver. His 3 charge attacks home in on the aggro'd player each time he lunges.

Slime - A giant lichen colony. His thorn roots attack has increased range and also produces an electric mist (minor shock)

Undead - An Almirian crusader (the small ones in LoA)

Fiend - A trojan. His sword slam deals shadow damage instead of normal, and also applies shock.

All ENERGIZED monsters are shock themed, regardless of the floor they are found in, and have slightly more health then the monsters they are based off of. These monsters usually only spawn in clockwork tunnels, but gremlins can spawn in Decon zones, beasts can spawn in wolver dens, and undead can spawn in graveyards. They only spawn in areas where killing all monsters is not required to continue, giving players the choice to battle them or not.

EDIT: ENERGIZED monsters still drop money and heat like regular monsters, however they do not drop pills or vials. They have 100% chance of dropping a single energy core

This sounds nice!No more buying 100 energy, and staying like an idiot with only 1 CE.For doors, anyway.

I like the idea of changing monster attributes to add real difficulty, although some of the things you mentioned wouldn't quite work in all tiers. that being said, i dont like the idea of getting rid of the time limit. It necessary for 2 reasons. 1, It forces players to earn the energy. Because CE is still in use, the energy cores cannot be given away. If a monster is permanently energized, it will be garenteed that the players will be given the energy core because no one ever lets enemies survive in the levels. 2. it encourages teamwork. as stated earlier, the time limit will be low enough where it will be difficult/niegh impossible so a single person to beat it in a 3/4 person party. This means if you want the essentially free CE, you need to work together

If perma buff doesn't work for you, then how about the new monsters are as such for a time limit, and when that time is up they devolve into the monster they are based off of. I don't really like the idea of de-spawning monsters because it feels like you are losing money when they go, and players would rush to kill it as fast as possible. in their rush, they may make more mistakes than usual and end up dying just to get the core.

And my ideas about the monster behavior was based off of T3 monsters, so they would attack slightly differently in the other tiers. They also would not appear in T1 or shadow lair. Not sure if they would show up in missions though.

Oh, yea of course. I guess I forgot to mention it but like you said once the time limit ends they simply become normal monsters.

Other input is still welcome,

Other input is still welcome, particularly on the idea of what energy core will do when used on their own. would the energy explosion be too overpowered?

Energy explosion should be reserved for when reviving with a spark of life. It is a bit disruptive to have a large explosion happen in the middle of combat that would blast every surrounding enemy in random directions and stun them, while also causing he screen to shake massively (wow, i just described the Irontech Destroyer and BAB to a tee). Either make the cores unusable, like how a health pill can't be used when at full HP, or bring back mist tanks and make using a core store 1 energy into the tank. The tank would not refill on it's own like before, and would be reset to 0 after coming out of the clockworks.

I'd suggest not using the tank, because i think there is a way to exploit it (not sure exactly).

Idea. 50 or 100 of them

Idea.

50 or 100 of them should make 1 CE,make it rare.

This is pretty neat. It also gives people more incentive to try out danger rooms. I don't think the time limit would be too good though. As much as we want to encourage team work, all levels and bonuses should be obtainable solo. Some people actually can't play in parties because of extreme lag.

Epic, it would be a dropped consumable item, meaning you can only hold 3 at a time. I don't see how you could store 50+, and even if you could it would be bad to turn it directly into CE. then people would just farm this and never trade CE again. Te purpose of this idea is for energy gates and mecha knights specifically.

EDIT: @Leekcoco
It would only be difficult to solo the monster if you are in a party. the larger your party, the more health a monster has, and so it would be harder to kill. In a solo party the monster's health would be low enough that you could solo it if it was your first priority.

Oh, I think misunderstood some parts of your discussion. The time limit would have to be something reasonable, so that as long as you're in decent gear and not off loitering the kill will still be possible.

Interesting.

Suggestions for how to use/implement them:

-Make one Core enough to power any normal energy thing, but make them slightly rarer to compensate. (More expensive things like turrets could be 2, I guess. Maybe.)
-Cores are used like energy or keys in a level, you have to walk up to the thing in order to use it and then confirm. Otherwise:
--using a Core creates a small explosion (like a first rev in the old system) and the grants you three seconds of msi low, dmg bonus low, CTR low, and ASI low. All of which can push past max, like a revive. It also activates an invincibility frame. (Useful for breaking stun locks)
-Energized monsters get an attack and health buff, a fairly substantial one. They also get a slightly changed appearance (think ALPHA alpha Wolver) all with the theme of a blue (CE blue not shock blue) glow, and the energized effect is permanent. In this way it kind of creates a random chance to spawn a miniboss.

Klipik, giving cores the ability to cause explosions is not a good idea for the reasons i stated above. And allowing the core to apply a buff to the player would give them a purpose that wasn't originally intended. They are only meant to allow players to use energy related gates/items without using energy. And I'm not sure about turning these monsters into mini bosses. It would be better to just leave them as more powerful enemies.

Hey, I took the idea and put my little spin on it. You essentially just said you didn't like my changes because they weren't the original idea. And how is a pickup causing an explosion any less disruptive than dropping a bomb?

That's my point, dropping bombs are disruptive (as i said in my earlier post). Why do you think people don't like the blast bomb line of bombs? And the reason I didn't like parts of your idea wasn't because they were different from the original, but because I just didn't think they fit well. I did like some of your ideas, such as changing the looks of the monsters and requiring a confirmation to use the cores.
Remember that this isn't personal, its just a discussion to find out the best way to implement this suggestion.

My two crowns

I like the idea, personally. I"m not in favor of these being offensive buffs, however, as I honestly feel the game is easy enough. I think it would be great for people to try out danger rooms, or get addicted to using their energy for little gates :P

overall, +1 from me (because my opinion matters, dammit!)
