Best Normal Damage Weapon for Mono Weapon Chaos Set?

Hey there, Neo here.

So, I have restarted as a new character now to take advantage of my better skills and knowledge as a player. I sold all of my old gear and sent the money over to a new character, adding up to a nice tidy sum! I crunched some numbers, and I should be able to eek by all the way to five star gear with the crowns I have, so I created a plan to make a full Chaos set with a Grey Owlite Shield. Nothing crazy there.

But, alas, I believe I only have enough money for *One* weapon to get a ride all the way to 5 star. What's it going to be?

Well, I've had a few ideas, but am, of course, open to more of them. One thing that is imperative though is that it is a normal weapon, or at least it has normal damage, in order to hit everything for good damage with the over all 'Very High' damage bonus that Chaos gives. And since I have a free 'Very High' Charge time reduction, combined with natural level 10 "Medium' charge time reduction, I want a weapon that has a good charge attack, as that will be my main output of damage.

Weapons that came to mind? Leviathan Blade, CIV, Sudaruska, Brandishes, Wild Hunting Blade, Volcanic Pepperbox, Neutralizer, Supernova, Valiance... That's all the conceivable ones that come to mind.

Do any scream good idea or bad idea to you guys? I know that the Levi and CIV both have excellent charges and normal attacks, the CIV's more likely to get all three hits on the charge. Sudaruska's charge smashes everything but is otherwise useless. Wild Hunting Blade stops the enemy during the charge attack, but holds you down for so long. Brandish's are overall good, but will be weak against some monsters. VP has brutal specials, but knocks the enemy back. Neutralizer has the most fun charge in the game, but can be tricky to use. Supernova is all around good as is the Valiance, and they keep me out of harms way with my very high status weakness'.

Let me know what you think please, and keep in mind that it isn't a forever weapon, just the weapon I will use until I build up sufficient funds to branch out into type specific weapons =O)

in my selfish opinion,

Sudaruska > Leviathan/CIV, Supernova and Valiance are horrible at clockworks, why taking 20 sec to kill a monster while you can use other weapons around 2 - 3 sec. I would go either Neutralizer or Volcanic Pepperbox, Dealing with pepper knockback, you either shoot from point blank range, or corner yourself to a wall, and aim the monster against the wall. Neutralizer charge has bit decent damage. These two are not recommended if you have no experience with gun yet, not really a beginner gunner, I guess. Nitronome comes in mind if you want bomb and mostly solo-ing.
And change your shield to swiftstrike buckler, so you could become a perfect clone :D
Meh, just kidding, just learn how monster attacks and dodge them, once you get used to them, any shield is fine which swiftstrike buckler gives you the most bonus.

Brandishes is not really neutral, but acheron is way too powerful that you may consider it's neutral against fiend and undead >_>
Question though, how can you afford radiant fire crystals? You may want to stay 4* for a while.

@Firecrystals/Poopsie

Yeah, the radiant fire crystals are expensive for sure...I am likely to get full chaos and then keep the four star shield and weapon for a bit, but I think my math pans out! We'll see =O Thank you for the info btw! It's still a tough choice though. I am considering Suda, CIV, Neutralizer, VP and Archeon now. And we should do clone runs together when I get to it! >=P

ideas

Since you are just returning to the game, you may not have noticed that Acheron has been inexplicably buffed into super-stardom. And you will eventually get Fang of Vog for free. So one plan is Acheron followed by Fang of Vog. But you might have trouble getting Fang of Vog with Acheron as your only weapon. It depends on how generous your friends are, in taking you through FSC.

Combuster has been super-powerful for a long time. It's not great against beasts (which don't matter, because they're so easy) and gremlins. But it's not terrible against those resistant monsters, due to its normal damage.

If you're going to do Leviathan/CIV, then do Levi, as its damage output is better at high levels of damage bonus.

I myself would take two weapons to 4 stars, even if I could finish off only one of them to 5 stars. And those two weapons might be Combuster and Blitz Needle.

Whaddya mean Bapp? Acheron is great at fighting undead. I mean, would you rather fight undead with acheron or cold iron vanquisher?

incredibly

I take your point: Incredibly, Acheron out-DPSes about 1/3 of swords against undead.

But it's still far from optimal. I wouldn't be surprised if intolerant FSC parties kicked the original poster out, for having Acheron as his only weapon. I usually solo Vanaduke, but I wouldn't want to do it with only Acheron. Maybe I'm just a wimp.

I married for love!

I decided to use the Catalyzer -- I enjoy explosions very much and it combos great with the Shivermist line, or even the Cold Snap if I truly feel like penny pinching. Wish me luck and see you in-game! Thanks for the words of wisdom, all.

Err...Strike that.

I went ahead and bought a Catalyzer and upgraded it too (#impetuous), but I decided that, since I often farm Snarby (I know, I know -- kind of lame!) I should get the Wild Hunting Blade instead, as it has an excellent charge move if not risky and tears the area apart. However, if you'd a better all around weapon that will let me shamelessly farm the first dungeon, please, let me know!

Thanks,

^To clarify...

That last post made me sound like a complete novice. No, Snarby's whole area is not difficult in the slightest. It is just that it is the easiest one to solo in terms of length and monster difficulty when you are a busy fellow, such as myself. It also takes the least amount of tokens to get prizes from which, for a UV hunter like me, is a must. So, I am searching for a weapon that will let me do top notch speed runs on our favorite wood land creature.

not WHB

I certainly do not recommend getting Wild Hunting Blade. But I'm not sure how to advise you, because you seem to be all over the place with your equipment. If you're interested in swords, perhaps you could begin by reading my detailed sword guide.

Sudaruska's charge isn't useless, I'd say it has one of the best charge attacks and it's even OP.

More on the OP- If it were me doing this, I'd go with volcanic pepperbox, because that's most usable for all of the bosses. You can kill snarbolax with it due to the high DPS, you can kill jelly king and roarmulus with it for the same reason, and its close enough to blitz needle to work on vanaduke. Keep in mind that you can use the knockback to your advantage as well.

Tentative Decision...

So I am enamored with the defensive capability of the Pulsar line. I did a run with circuit breaker armor through Fire and Ice themed areas to sort of simulate Chaos armor and came out alive and well, so factoring in the damage buffs and charge time reduction of the gun to get me out of those crowded areas, I'd say we have a winner. Thanks for all the help!
