thought i'd try and help a few people out since I've got nothing better to do, but dingading dang my dingalinga ding dong.... and since I have no intention of ever donating any money I figured i'd try and give something back.
ive got some generic laptop and over the last month I decided I wanted to learn how to hotrod it... that didn't work out, since the cooling system wouldn't handle the stress (thankful my bike is liquid cooled lol), but I did learn a few things for increasing performance internally, i.e. without having to break out your handy dandy screwdriver.
so.... you've lowered the spiral knight client's expectations for you computer, reduced graphic quality, muted it, took it off full screen, maybe fuxxed with the anti-aliasing a little bit and still you've got lag.
what I did was lower my GPU's expectations, instead of having the pos trying to push itself to the max for every little porn video I may or may not entertain myself with.
heres how I did it:
1. control panel
2. system
3. appearance and personalization
4. display
NOW PAY ATTENTION im going to make this cut and dry, so theres no need for questions.
5. adjust screen resolution
6. GO TO THE ADVANCED SETTINGS don't be scared, you wont break anything
7. you will find your GPU there, it should have its own control panel where you can make adjustments.
brief detour: ive got an amd cpu with a radeon 6000-something, this one lets me adjust my cpu power as well. I cranked that @!#! up. I do not know about other computers.
8. drop everything else down.
9.if you really....really...REALLY... need to ask a question, google it and try looking for stuff about overclocking your gpu because im not going to try and explain something that I only have a fragmentary knowledge of. if you had a motorcycle you wanted to port or maybe accelerate the firing on it a little bit, im all over that. but computers........ to me their little more than misshapen Frisbees.
