I don’t think there are too many people around here that could forget Tev’s contests, (specifically 2.0) but it’s September 14th that's important here.
At least, I’m pretty sure that was the day of the Awards Ceremony in the 2.0 contest. Y’see, there were lots of events then, and they were really fun. So I’ve decided to do something like that. With some events. 6, to be exact.
The first thing that I’d ask (er, probably) would be: When does this thing take place? To answer myself, no wait, to answer an unasked question, I mean-
Argh, forget it. I’ll just answer the, uh… Anyway. The answer is, the first four events will actually be on Christmas Eve, with the other two on Christmas afternoon. Actually, the last two are more like mini-contests than events. The “event” is sort of a gathering to announce the winners, a bit like the Awards Ceremony. After all, this “party” is based off it.
Next off, is probably “what are the events anyway?” And here’s a slight problem. While I have ideas for the ones on Christmas, and for two of those on Christmas Eve, I’m not sure what the others should be.
So that’s something you can help with. While I can’t guarantee actually using them, ideas would be much appreciated.
Onto the events I do have ideas for, and their prizes. Oh yes, I should probably explain what the prizes are in the first place, hehe.
So… do boss weapons sound good? Krogmo Coin weapons? Of those, the Christmas Eve event winners will be awarded with 2-star weapons, on Christmas with 3-star. Of course, if they don’t sound good, then I can’t do anything about it…. hey Rem! Be more polite!
Now for the events….
On Christmas Eve
Placing Methods: Winner, Two runner-ups
Prize List for all events on Christmas Eve
Snarble Barb (x6 total)
Bristling Buckler (x6 total)
Spine Cone (x6 total)
Pulsar (x6 total)
Catalyzer (x6 total)
Haze Bomb (x6 total)
Bonus Prize: Flawed Mask in Mimemode
Plus 2.5k crowns participation prize for each event
(Note: Runner-ups receive their choice of one battle sprite star)
Upon suggestion by Sandwich-Potato, winners have a choice between an item from the winners prize list, and one battle sprite star.
Proto Survival
Type: Active
Notes: Credit to Possiblespy for a suggestion that caused this event to be changed a little. (and made harder too! Harder is always better!...right?)
Explanation/Instructions/Stuff: Some of you always walk around in Proto armour, others haven’t touched it in years. (Others, of course, are in between, but anyway…) Wherever that Proto is, go get it. Put it on. Unequip your weapons and shield. Then equip a Proto Sword or Gun; or the Bomb if you think you can handle it. Neither trinkets nor Battle Sprites are allowed.
Done that? Now show up in the assembly Haven for Christmas Eve. (shown under the schedule) Originally, this was a last-knight-standing type thing to take place in the Guild Training Hall, but now it is set in the boss room for the Roarmulus Twins, and the objective is to beat the Twins without dying. Thus, teamwork is encouraged.
If someone beats them with no deaths, he/she receives a winner's prize. An Emergency Revive, a runner-up prize. Spark of Life (er, don't use one though) a participation prize. I will be accompanying you (dead, of course), to ensure that there is no cheating. Though what kind of cheating, I don't know. It just sounded good.
The Hard Way
Type: Passive
Notes: Credit goes to Tevokkia, this was one of the weekly events in her contest 2.0.
Explanation/Rules/Stuff: You can buy materials 2-star up from Brinks. For tokens. And you can buy other things with tokens, too. Like the weapons that are prizes for this.
I’ll list four outfits, one at a time, and the first to mail me the correct answer for the one in each round wins that round.
“Answer” being;
1. How many tokens were used to buy the materials? (2-star and up, of course)
2. Were any tokens used for the items themselves? If so, how many?
3. What materials in this outfit could not be obtained via tokens/Brinks? How many of each are there?
Slimeball
Type: Active
Notes: Credit to Sandwich-Potato for the idea; (and whichever guild it was that originally thought it up) his post can be found here. I made a few adjustments, but I may have mistaken his explanation in which case this is the original idea. I dunno.
Explanation/Rules/Stuff: ...so this one might be pretty hard to manage, since it has to be a T3 elite Lichenous Lair. If I'm lucky, there'll be one on D19, but anyway. Three people at a time will join me, and depending on how many rooms this can work in, there may be more than one runs.
We'll isolate six lichens, and the three will shield-bump them at one another. If any of the players leaves the room, they are disqualified. The same if they kill a lichen.
This is a little like Proto Survival in that the only allowed gear is Proto- actually, to be honest, this just seems like a harder version of Proto Survival.
Anyways, the last person surviving (Proto Survivalllllll) is the winner. Of that round. Argh, not this again! The maximum number of possible rounds is six. (see near bottom of post for why)
I probably forgot stuff.
With the changes made to Proto Survival, this resembles it even more.
Mimemode
Type: Passive
Notes: Credit again to Sandwich-Potato, idea in same post as above. I made a few adjustments again. I left the title as is cause I couldn't think of a better one hehe
Explanation/Rules/Stuff: So, emotes. Those things you do by typing /emote or /e or whatever else, so your knight could do some weird thing that wasn't in the commands list. Have you done funny things? I have.
Well, even if you haven't, if you want to participate you'll have to. People who want to be judges will let me know, and entrants will have to mail their entries to them too.
That's right, mail. Otherwise it would be hard to read the shower of emotes (I wish) plus some might copy from others. The judges will read everything that's sent to them, and let me know which they like best. That, plus my own preferences, will decide the winners. Hopefully, there won't be too much conflict there or we're in big trouble.
Holiday Hymns
Type: Passive
Notes: Credit, yet again, to Sandwich-Potato, from the same post. But I've made a few adjustments. Again.
Explanation/Rules/Stuff: Christmas has lots of songs and things. Winterfest hasn't. Well, it's going to now.
All you have to do to enter is think up a parody for an already existing Christmas song, based on Spiral Knights, and send it to me, along with the title of the original and any other identifying details. I'll choose three to six of them, and type them out, a line every, uh, bunch of seconds?
If you figure out the original, send me one of those identifying details, and if you're correct, you've won the round.
Christmas Day
Placing Methods: 3 winners, 3-6 runner-ups
Prize List for all events on Christmas Day
Twisted Snarble Barb (x? total)
Twisted Targe (x? total)
Twisted Spine Cone (x? total)
Heavy Pulsar (x? total)
Kilowatt Pulsar (x? total)
Toxic Catalyzer (x? total)
Industrial Catalyzer (x? total)
Haze Bomb MKII (x? total)
Antigua (x3 total)
Sealed Sword (x3 total)
Shockburst Brandish (x3-6 total)
Toxic Needle (x3-6 total)
Grintovec (x3-6 total)
Electron Charge (x3-6 total)
Bonus prizes: Hallow costumes/accessories in both events
Plus 5k crowns participation prize for each event
(Note: runner-ups can choose from what is left of either of the prize lists)
No battle sprite stars for this one, because, well, these're 3-stars!
Fiction Thingy
Rules and Stuff: This one is simple. I said earlier these two are mini contests… so all you have to do for this one is write a story of any length sometime this month and post it at any point on Christmas Eve EST. (Eastern Standard Time)
While, as I said, they can be any length, longer stories might be harder to finish in time and, having only a few hours to judge these, I probably can’t read longer stories thoroughly.
One definite rule, however, is: It must be Spiral Knights related, no exceptions!
Edit - after Kagisnad asked if he could help with the judging, I'm changing this, so that anyone may judge the entries themselves, and send the results to me. Their chosen winners will receive bonus prizes.
Art Thingy
Rules and Stuff: Basically the same as the fiction, however since it is art, and mediums are involved – all and any mediums are allowed. And remember, Spiral Knights related!
The edit to the Fiction Thingy applies to this as well.
Note on the Christmas Day events/mini contests: These are contests – and I’m the judge, so I felt it proper to add a disclaimer that I’m human, and my “judging” is based on my liking of the piece (I guess, as most peoples’ is) and, er… I’m not sure how to end this….
Despite the edit to said events, I'm leaving this here.
So anyway, while I have an idea of the general schedule of the party, I haven’t decided exactly when things happen. So these times are definitely not final and can (and probably will) be altered.
This is EST, (Eastern Standard Time) remember!
The whole of December 24th: Post entries for Fiction Thingy and Art Thingy
Throughout December 24th: The Hard Way, each round ends when I've received three relatively correct entries.
10AM-Midday December 24th: Mimemode
3PM-5PM December 24th: Holiday Hymns
{Some events may take longer than others, so the two-hour durations are probably not too accurate}
Roughly 3PM-5PM December 25th: party-like thing, winners of Fiction/Art Thingies announced. Other random events may take place here, not necessarily competitions.
Which reminds me – I still haven’t mentioned where all this takes place, or what the “assembly Haven” is.
During the events on Christmas Eve, participants should come to the bridge in the Garrison of Haven 9, and on Christmas, participants should come to the garden in Haven 4. However, the latter may be moved to the Embersteel guildhall, in which case I’ll be sure to let people know.
And here’s a list of the prizes, and how close I am to obtaining the number I need for this party… er, thing….
Snarble Barb; 6/6
Bristling Buckler; 6/6
Spine Cone; 6/6
Pulsar; 4.5/6
Catalyzer; 4.5/6
Haze Bomb; 6/6
Antigua; 3/3
Sealed Sword; 3/3
Shockburst Brandish; 4/4
Electron Charge; 4/4
Grintovec; 4/4
Toxic Needle; 4/4
(Psst - donations would be much appreciated! Hehe)
Since I have a rather limited supply of these items, in events with multiple rounds or winners (which is just about all of them so far) the later winners will have to choose from the remaining prizes. E.G. Say, in Proto Survival, there end up being two rounds. The first winner chooses Haze Bomb. The winner of the second round will have to choose among the other five Christmas Eve prizes. I’m sorry, but, well… it’s the best I can do.
You can also get 500 crowns - just for showing up on either of these days! All you have to do is send me a mail with the title "I was here!" and you'll get your crowns.
To finish, I’m painfully aware that I can be very confusing. Even to myself, hehe. So if there’s anything here that’s hard to understand, please ask for an explanation…. I’ll make sure that I answer quickly!
Now here I'm adding in a little acknowledgements section.
Thanks to Sandwich-Potato, for making a number of great suggestions, among them three event ideas! In addition, he's also offered to obtain all the prizes from the Royal Jelly, cutting my remaining work by half, as well as donating a bunch of Hallow costumes. (hehe, since I have yet to sell them, they may be used instead as bonus prizes)
To Tevokkia for the offered use of any of the events from her contests, and a donation of some helpful prizes. And of course, for inspiring this party in the first place! She is also contributing with the Royal Jelly prizes. Much, much appreciated.
Kagisnad has already provided one Roarmulus Twins prize and offered more, which is, as said above, much appreciated.
And of course, to anyone else who helps out here and to everyone writing fiction/drawing art for my mini-contests, although while the former will be promptly added to this list, the latter won't get that chance till Christmas. They'll get it in the end, though. Which is Christmas. Which is... alright, I'd better stop while I can.
I should also have pointed out that Firemetal is providing all *ahem* most (thanks Tev) of the prizes using Krogmo Coins. Thanks!
Well, then. That's a lot to process. My best bet would probably be on the fiction. As I suck at art. And I can probably out live all of you. So I think I'm good. I think this is a good idea, except for the timing. Everybody is going to have their own irl stuff to do on Christmas and the Eve. I think it would be a better idea to rescedule. :3
