Option for Knights to be Left or Right-handed

I saw the post that Three Rings made on facebook about some items being available in the Supply Depot. For those that havn't seen it, it had a picture attached that showed a Knight with his sword in his left hand and shield in his right hand.

This got me thinking. What if we could choose whether to be Right-handed like we are now, or if we could be Left-handed, which would mean that we use our weapon with our left hand and the shield in our right hand.

It was just an idea i came up with. I think that it would be a great addition to the game, seeing as we could need a little more vareity in the game.

I don't think that it would be so hard to achieve either, since the character models basicly just have to be inverted.

Tell me what you think about this idea.

YES!!!!!

Send this to OOO's. It would be a way for us to show ourselves in the game. To allow us to connect with our character. This will change attack patters kinda though, but i dont care.

That was the plan

Well, i made this thread in hope that Three Rings would see it and maybe add it.

I don't think that attack patterns would differ. If you mirror the animations, it would be the same outcome but would look different.

Mixed feelings.

While I like the idea... it changes attack patterns, specifically sword attacks, one of the most used attacks in the game. Swinging from left to right would just... feel weird, and it would change combat strategies (which way to face, how quickly diagonal attacks can hit, etc). I'd like to see it, but the changes it could have would be hard.

Seems kinda pointless for me?

Not sure, its not game breaking or anything. It would just mirror the exact same pattern but on the left side. But then again, why?

I like my poker. Don't judge me.

I actually made a suggestion about left handed characters recently!

I wonder if they saw it and thought it was a good idea...

Or maybe they just thought of it a while ago.

Answer to Dibsville and Canine-Vladimir

Dibsville - Since you only do damage in front of you with the current attack pattern, it wouldn't change anything but visual effects.

Canine-Vladimir - Just a fun thing for those who either are left handed or simply thinks it looks nicer. I'm right handed but would use the left handed feature because it creates variety to the game. Also, it makes it look like Knights have more personality and doesn't look like any other Knight.

The 4th wall shall be shattered!!!

I wonder why they havn't added this yet, so far, I've seen three threads about left handed options, probally lack of time, or some other reason

No other game has this

As a right-handed user, I can't imagine using a knight that swung with the left hand. It just seems so weird and distracting. I got a bit of a headache trying to vividly imagine it. I assume that left-handed people are too used to playing as righties by now to be affected as much as I am though, or at least so used to it that they don't notice.

I really think, if it wouldn't be that hard anyway, that the 25% of the population that have been playing with controls and character models designed for right-handed people their entire lives are due a change of pace, and it would be a really fun thing to have. I've thought about this before, and I've heard people suggest it while just shooting the shit so I know it's not that bizarre an idea. I hope so hard that this gets some attention from the developers.

As long as the accessories or pieces of the armaments are not switched around, I am all for it. I considered making this suggestion myself. And similar to the source of the height modules, let this one come from either Vatel or an Iron Lockbox.

So you mean that you want to pay money for it? Because that wasn't what i had in mind. I thought about maybe have a button on your loadout thingy that you can either check and be left handed or just leave it unchecked to be right handed

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Yes, they'll put it up for some high price and then give it to new players for free.

Would you really want OOO to waste their time on this? You know, you lefties only make up about 10% of the population. The whims of the many outweigh the whims of the few! Seeruly.
Even if it was as easy as mirroring the animation, the shields are all designed to be held on the left hand and they would need to duplicate all those those items and then some. It would never be worthwhile financially.

All they would need to do is reverse the shield model when you choose the left handed option. I'm right handed and I think it'd be nice for the lefties and any righty who'd like their character to be lefty.

Answer to Spiruy

Actually, i'm right handed. Although i would like my Knight to be a lefty because it will give him more personality. And for those of us who actually enjoy roleplaying, even in Spiral Knights, it would be a great opportunity to create a better backstory. Perhaps your Knight got his arm hurt in a battle and had to become lefty because he/she is unable to use a sword/gun with that arm.

In theory, they only have to invert the whole character model and then they're done. Shields and such will automatically become mirrored, since the character model is mirrored.
