So it can be more or less a "pure damage" weapon with no real specialties. The Obsidian Edge is more or less a side grade hence the lesser damage.
However, I think this may have been said before.
Now stop complaining.

Nope.
The Acheron has no reason to have a buffed normal swing attack. Do the status Brandishes inflict their status on normal swings? I think not. Keep the charge attack damage, or nerf that slightly, and you're moderate-to-go.

I agree. However, the only logical reason I can think of for why they buffed it all the way to GF damage is the concept of sword damage units.

You're way off:
Let me ask you something, let's say Acheron wasn't buffed and Obsidian Edge was added into the game anyway. What's the problem here? Acheron is outclassed by Obsidian Edge because it has a Status, same exact reason why Obsidian Carbine is better than Sentenza, same damage but Obsidian Carbine has Poison Attached, leaving Sentenza completely useless aside from availability.
tl;dr: Acheron was only buffed because of Obsidain Edge. No other reason.

I wonder why they didn't just lower the damage of the Obsidian Carbine... I guess it's the problem that the elemental (and status) brandishes have the same damage as the old Acheron, and a lot of people would have freaked out if they had just done a blanket nerf of all the status brandishes's charges.

What in the world. I think that is the Leviathan Blade...the Acheron is supposed to be a high damage shadow sword.
That sounds good on paper, until you realize it works better than a Final Flourish against beasts.
