Hello!

This is a discussion for the reimplementation of why the classic shard bombs must be reimplemented. Why?

I still am lost in why Three Rings decided to stash away my dear old shard bombs.

Overpowered? With bombs like gas bombs, it is virtually ridiculous to say shard bombs were overpowered. Heck, even Dark Briar Barrage can be spammed and act as an overpowering bomb.

I am not saying the new shard bomb class needs to be replaced… I am saying it's now the must for the reimplementation of the classic shard bombs. Let's begin. You may freely comment as you wish…

FIRST of ALL, these beautiful shards were simply so much fun to use. Literally! You, bombers out there, think back to the last time you used the older shard bomb. Those latter melancholic blues can be healed, with your help I'll talk about later. But for now, here's a must-why the classic shards must stay with Spiral Knights.

Ranging: The excuse Three Rings made that diminished the classic shard bombs.

Well, funny thing is, couldn't Three Rings shorten the shard projectile distance? I mean, it's ridiculous, how they just TRASHED our favorite bomb. Maybe Three Rings saw something they didn't like that we didn't see? Jumping back to topic, shortening the blast distance would've been the best solution… and Three Rings surprisingly didn't think about that?

Now, what's the REAL issue Three Rings is having? It's certainly not that the bomb was gun-like … Even though Three Rings DID say that, there is absolutely no reason to remove a bomb with style. To say a bomb is gun-like is saying the Wrench Wand's charge is gun-like, which it is and what's funny there is that they did nothing about it. Heck, there's the "gun-like" brandish charges… there's the Spur charge attacks… I can't believe Three Rings chose to kill the classic shards…

After what we asked--to fix the rock salt bomb and ionized salt bomb, Three Rings overdid it. It's time Three Rings reimplemented the classic shard bomb mechanics, but with shorter distance. Think, wouldn't the shortened shard bombs be viable for use? It holds a great supportive bomb, and an excellent offensive.

Please, I so do not want to hear, "Three Rings is not gonna do it." If, Three Rings brings DOES hold my/our request… I will actively play n' pay Spiral Knights again.

Yep. That one, BIG, shard bomb mishap messed me up. This is why I never play in-game anymore!

And, Three Rings, you'll be AMAZED at how much clockwork spirit every Spiral Knight will obtain. This is the must. The bombing spirit will revitalize and flourish, we will prosper, and I, shall pay high. This bomb type… *was* the best weapon in Spiral Knights. Real-life richer players will enjoy bombing, and more income for Three Rings, that is, upon reimplementation of the classic shard bomb.

That concludes my short speech. Hope you all a good one!

I was writing quite the long post to support the reasoning behind why OOO terminated the ol' shards, but you reminded me of the times when I wrote in pure pathos... The slippery slopes... The anecdotal evidence... Dream on young one. Hope you have a good one too.

I'm happy to see someone not argue.

I'm expecting negative comments, though… (positives, as well).

Shard bombs are so good at right hands.

I can pass the whole level with no damages, with only 1 bomb that it weak against certain enemies.

IMHO, if the range distance

IMHO, if the range distance of the projectiles shortened to a certain point, it would make Three Rings consider reintroducing the classic shard bomb-type bomb, but in a different bomb name, and look (because there's already the underpowered newer shard bombs.

Decrease range, and add invincitinks

Then remove invincitinks from the current shard bombs. From what I've gathered, the old shard bomb was devastating if placed directly under an enemy. Making it so the damage competes with current bomb damage instead of outclassing it, and we've got a functioning bomb. Either that, or make the shards deal more damage with distance making the initial explosion rather weak. It would be even nicer if the shards stuck in enemies like quills do, and dealt some damage.

But alas, Three Rings didn't consult me.

OOO never said it was too gun-like (I myself am guilty of this misquote as well). They said it was not bomb-like enough, meaning it wasn't being used as an area-of-effect bomb and instead more of a single-target high DPS bomb in addition to a long range sniper. The range nerf can fix the latter issue, but maybe making the shards spawn further apart can fix the former. I agree, however, that the total rework was unnecessary and was implemented horrifically.

I don't like the invinciticks idea.

You know what sucks though?

In Lockdown [which was the reason they removed it, because of LD] I already developed a tactic on avoiding RSS projectiles. The shards went off in 90° and 45°. Just moving one step aside made the bomb useless and the bomber's easy targets. Plus fighting other opponents while knowing where to move made LD feel very tactful. So that was one skill I had to throw away after update.

Two Possible Fixes OOO could have done instead:
1. Shorten the Range: Like you said, a short range would have work marvelous. The main problem with the Shards was that you would get hit by random projectiles from half-way across the map
2. Clipping Issues: The RSS was infamous known for its shards to go through most things. A good example is the map Ruins. An exploded RSS shards would go through the walls and hedges.

Note This I have already move on a long time ago.
