This is not a question for me. I'm a vanguard already. My guild master Sckaar has the rank champion but she has the Vanguard Crest. But....You know how you are supposed to get the Vanguard Crest also at 45,000 prestige? Well, she did not reach 45k prestige yet. Her prestige rank is only the 3rd one. Not only does her rank show Champion, she also has a Crest of Almire, and full ARCANE SALAMANDER. This makes me go crazy. How did she get that much stuff without getting to vanguard??? For her Crest of Almire, you need to do repetitive FSC. And since she is a champion, she can just do FSC to farm tokens. But if she did that, she would right now be Vanguard. This brings to a new theory, CAN YOU CHANGE YOUR RANK AT WILL??? Can someone explain to me what she did to retain the Champ rank?
Is it possible to still obtain a Vanguard Crest without actually getting to Vanguard rank?

I'm a champion too and have enough tokens to get all the vana stuff. Basically I've purposely never accomplished the last mission of Hall of Heroes which gets you to Vanguard. It's also possible to be a squire and still possess a Crest of Almire by invitations from friends, which I did before on my previous character.
I don't see what would go in the way of a champion knight to make an sl, you don't need to be a vanguard to have access to it.
As for the vanguard crest, there is only one way you could get it not being a Vanguard and that is by buying an armour with the crest attached to it from someone.

Now comes the hard part: you need to think about it a little bit. What makes it possible to achieve the former without achieving the latter?
I've seen V. Crests for sale before. Like twice in the past 16 months.
I have no idea how they got those things unbound. Not that it matters - they're hideous.

Now that I think about it Krakob is actually right. There are four 9-4 missions, the Hall of Heroes rewards the crest, but you need to accomplish all four mission to get your rank upped to Vanguard. She probably finished the Hall of Heroes mission and didn't do one or more of the other 9-4 missions, thus remaining champion.

There was a brief time when the mission system was new when you could get a bugged unbound Vanguard Crest. You could find them in the Auction House. As for how she has all that sweet loot without being Vanguard rank? She got it before the mission system existed.
I have an Unbound Azure Guardian Crest & 2 Bound Vanguard Crests.

You dont (well didnt until the sprite update) have to do missions to get 5* gear. You could still make it by running the arcade, like we "old timers" had to. :P
I get asked these questions a hell of a lot. I'm often called Mr-Hax (My character's name is Mr-Hex) because of it :P
Vanguard crests were unbound (by glitch) when missions first came out. End of story. Occasionally you see them in the AH. Get over it.
No one really did as I told Annilaton, it appears. It's really simple. Just do Hall of Heroes (which gives the crest) and refrain from doing at least one of the other three: A True Champion, Honor and Duty, or The Search Continues.
Could you like, ask her instead of pestering the forums about it without even analyzing what gives a Knight the Vanguard Crest and what makes a Knight a Vanguard and how you could achieve only the former of the two?
