Long ago you guys started with a dream, a story... a story that many people sat down, and immersed themselves in, and in time, became a part of the story themselves. This story captured the interest of many, leaving them in awe and amazement, and eager for the next chapter to unfold as they create their own journey out of the world you have made. A world of forever grinding machinery, turning, groaning, shifting, building itself from within. A world filled with populations from afar and near, hostile as they may be, they too play many roles in our story.

However, we are stuck. Trapped between our love for this mysterious tale, and the refusal to continue the saga. We are distracted by the shiny things, re-skins of favored items, the occasional new weapon, or costume armor that serves only the function of bragging rights. we can not end our wondrous tale, we have not profited enough from it. Is this how you wanted your creation to be? To bait people with such mystery, such unique stories, and then simply, not finish it because of money?

Absit omen...

I think I've figured it out.

All these threads are just reskins of previous threads. All these posters are actually members of the development team!

It is not just their fault...

It is not just their fault... It is you, the players. You can stop paying them money until they finally finish the content, and the story. You fall to their bait, and pay for status... Instead, keep your money... Don't pay a dime until we have our full story written. Our opened core, and the alpha squad.

How do you think OOO made the game? With no money, and a few programmers with a dream. It doesn't cost money to write code unless you're greedy

it is nice to think that people work for free and there was noone involved that payed them to do so in order to make a game and earn money with it later.

either that or you think SK was made by a bunch of dudes that gathered up in their free time to make a game just for the lolz.

All shell will break loose.

So guys, I heard from a friend of mine that Sega is closing in a few years (2017 to be exact). So unless OOO finds another sponsor or whatever Sega is to them, then so long Spiral Knights.

If I had my way, OOO would have to get real jobs, coding and researching for other things first and foremost. To make Spiral Knights happen, they'd by nature have to keep it open source (or deal with little to no development).

The entertainment industry goes against the betterment society and therefor the development of individualism. The argument "But it helps me ; thus, I can better society" has been made, but we have more than enough free content being produced. At this point, we have created incentive for trapping people into depression and stealing from them.

sonosuke, I'm expecting you to show proof, cause SEGA won't be willing to close ever. do you know how much money do the chiefs make? do you think that they say "yeah, let's profit till 2017, then stop"?

Damien, you can do any coding for free, but a server needs money. ideally, this whole game costs would be the servers. alas, there is a minimum salary policy and a big company that want money.
darn salary policy.

That's strange Thunder. I don't see Minecraft or Team Fortress 2 blowing all the profits they make on servers.... I see the community hosting the bulk of those servers, with the successful TF2 servers taking donations from the people that play on them and love them.

I would think if they didn't have SEGA expecting whatever % of the profits on their backs, OOO could be more productive, but that's just me.
If SK were, open source, we'd have as much content as a modded MC client. Yes please.

Stop Damien. Just no.

Hurr durr I think that OOO can make an entire storyline before it goes bankrupt from no revenue yep durp.

How do you think OOO made the game? With no money, and a few programmers with a dream. It doesn't cost money to write code unless you're greedy

Well, IIRC, Spiral Knights was not OOO's first game. So they had money. And it costs money to do the following:

-Eat. What, you think they're robots? Maybe they can work in a factory. Cuz robots don't get bored.
-Buy clothes. You don't really want to go there.
-Host servers to play and stuff.
-Have a lawyer.
-I could go on and on and on.
-Buy bananas.
