Mercurial Set Usability?

Hey there, Neo here.

To the point with this one: Does the Mercurial Set have any real use? Sure, the shock is nice, but the road sort of ends there, unless movement speed is really, really helpful. Considering how rare movement speed boosts are, I would not know!

Additionally, with pet perks, I believe an additional Medium Movement speed is possible -- meaning you could have Very High movement speed with the set and a level 100 pet (Again, worlds away.) The Backfire Barrier increases your speed even further, although the Scorching Barrier is much nicer for damage, I hear.

Thoughts?

Very High movement speed is just as useful as Very High attack speed and Very High damage increase is.

But Very High movement speed is way more coolerer than any other buff so you should get it.

Mercurial is mostly a tool of entertainment.

The Mercurial is definitely useable. So I hear anyways. I am still working on one because I want Mercurial Bomber first (that is far more useful so if you reach a point of Shadow Lairs, try investing on that instead). The movement speed increase is surprisingly noticeable actually. I use Quick Steps II for Recon Patrols and it comes in amazing help. Especially when I'll be spending most of my time charging up that 2* Nerf gun and running from monsters that will easily crush my 'light weight defenses'. DX

There are definitely better sets. Especially since you are more likely to die when using this set because shock defense alone wont get you far. Piercing defense is a factor, but not a strong one. If you would ask me, either take up on bombing where movement speed is especially useful, or just try getting you sprite to level 89, and pray that before level 94 you get Quicksteps II.

Unless you're a person of fun and not kill. In which case the Mercurial set contains just that! Resistant from the ultimate joy kill, shock, and defense against the monsters that are more likely to put a literal dent in your day, slimes and beasts.

I have the 4* and 5* mail recipes for the merc set if you decide to get them. http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/2021?page=45#comment-842299

It's usable

The MSI VH is noticeable, you'll move way past fast anyone else with an amazing 16% increase over a normal knight, but besides being able to move about the clockworks swiftly, you'll be more evasive of enemy attacks. However, making a build around MSI is quite a gimp since you miss out on DMG/CTR/ASI, which help much more in practice. You'd probably want Mercurial Demo set for the +2 CTRs and elemental defense over the Mercurial Set's clean shock resist and piercing defense if you strongly feel the desire to get it, but I wouldn't suggest them for practical use. MSI is just the icing on the cake which is why people often use it as their pet perk.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Mercurial set is better for LD, if you play that. Flourishes won't do as much damage. (In theory.)

With level 10 5* bomb it's really useful. Don't know if in any other situations. Also, the armor looks cool.

With the new MSI drops

With the new MSI drops Mercurial with a MSI Med Perk is awesome. Now if only I had backfire for that...
And yes, in LD it will protect you from two flourish hits and you will die from the third hit in LD if heated properly. However, Skolver will allow the same protection (death after 3). --Note this is with no trinks--
