What is this "ko" stuff in the music files?

First off, I don't know if mentioning file diving is allowed, so I'm taking a shot in the dark here. If it isn't, then the GMs have every right to remove this thread. I don't use SpiralSpy or anything, so it's impossible for me to post spoilers.

Now, being the curious (mewkat) music lover I am, I went into the game's Steam files to find more music tracks.

And I did, except they were duplicates with "ko" at the end.

After listening to them, are these "ko" remixes for special events? Help.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

I'm not sure. Music files aren't my speciality.

However, I'm guessing it's for compatibility. For example, if a player's computer can't read one file type, maybe they use another? Maybe ko is uncompressed and can be read with less tools, but then maybe it would bring more slowdown on Spiral Knights?

Actually, I think I know what it is. It's a kernal module.

It stands for "korean" and has silly voiceovers that sound awful.

O_o

The ko remixes have drums and cymbals in them, but the prologue remix actually has a voice actor! O_o

And I gotta say, the ko ones are in my opinion, more upbeat than their regular US ones.

Harry, if you see this, I just have to say, you never fail to impress me with the talented music you've implemented into this game. It's wonderful. it really is.

Can I suggest two more? Perhaps the boss theme and somber? That would be the greatest.

The battle_2_ko is simply a masterpiece, wish we could hear it in-game (official, not with file swapping)
