For those of you un-familiar with 3D printing, this is why we have Google. Otherwise, read away;

The concept is simple. Say you've invested hours upon hours of time, money and happiness into your knight's grind. You've finally adorned the top-tier armour, obtained the weapons of mass digital destruction and generally maximized your potential as far as the current update will allow.

Now, It's just a lil' idea and it could well blow over, but what might be awesome is if you were able to send-off for a small 3D print of your knight as homage to your in-game achievement. So essentially you select your most kick-[bucket] loadout, pick from a list of pre-selected in-game poses of which to have your knight frozen, hit finalize and voilà: one desktop worthy knight IRL. (Perhaps even printed on a shallow cylindrical plinth with the knight name inscribed, although that might be pushing it a little..)

Of course, there are the technicalities to be concerned with in terms of how the printing works, i.e. the digital character models would have to be compatible with whatever printing software/hardware is used, + there's the issue of cost, I have no idea how expensive it'd be to pay for given potential outsourcing for printing facilities and so on..

The idea is that it could be a personal investment if in want of a unique desktop addition for the home/office, or even as a gift whereby someone else could pay for the service, kinda like a 3D printing voucher.

Hell, on a side-note it might even be cool just to have regular mobs and bosses available as 3D prints as per request.

Anyway, it's just a spur of the moment thought, so feel free to scrutinize, adapt or develop the idea as you will. (and Happy Christmas! :D)

Perhaps we will be able to do

Perhaps we will be able to do this ourselves in a few years, it all depends if 3d-printing in the home becomes The Next Big Thing or not.

Games with thriving cosmetic economies should be selling figurines NOW before the pirates beat them to it.

There are already companies that sell custom 3-D print miniatures, so there's nothing stopping you from ordering one right now. Well, probably nothing, there might be some legal issues involved, but I doubt it.

Suddenly an idea.

...Or instead of ordering them if you own a 3D printer at home you connect it to your computer and print away!
