Which one is better for jelly runs? High dmg bonus vs jelly on the Cautery, or the Shadow dmg on the Nightblade?
Cautery Sword or Nightblade?
Does anyone have numbers?
nightblade. it did more damage to slimes last time someone compared.
Basically, comes down to what charge attack you prefer.
The Cautery has a wider cone of attack but no explosion, the Nightblade sometimes creates explosions giving you a double hit on a single monster.
The damage difference is negligible in the long run.
Nightblade hands down.
You will be running JK even when you have 5* weapons. A 5 star Night Blade (acheron) can have up to 3-4 explosions (5?). But really, you'll be running JK long past the point the Cautery is completely obsolete, so may as well invest in the future. Also, you'll be using your nighblade/silent night/acheron in Danger rooms/arenas to kill Menders (gremlin healers).
It's no contest, Nightblade. But it is cool to have a cautery sword just for JK :) If you do, just realize it's a vanity item, not part of a strategic improvement of you equipment in preparation for future challenges.
Nightblade with an Anti-Slime UV. But... UVs are expensive...
The Royal Jelly takes only a tiny bit of extra damage from Shadow (if indeed he takes any at all-- The mini-jellies appear to have the same defenses as the boss, but my friend was dealing exactly 1 point more damage on the mini-jellies with his Shadowtech Alchemer Mk. II compared to a Lumber golem on depth 15).
The Cautery will therefore deal MORE damage on the boss than the Nightblade, unless of course there's a UV vs. Slimes on the Nightblade.
@ GIga, out of curiosity do you know if the Cautery deals more damage than Silent Night or Acheron?
On the boss, it should.
On the masses of regular jellies BEFORE the boss, heck no.
I was just throwing that out there since the boss is also a rather important part of a Jelly run. Though if you don't care about the tokens you can just leave after Red Carpet Runaround. If you do this, Nightblade all the way.
The ideal weapon is a Nightblade that has a Slime UV anyway, so you'd get the best of both worlds.
Cautery does more damage, and I have one, and loved it, however it doesn't have a 4 or 5 star equivalent like nightblade does, so nightblade is really the all around clear choice here. It does jellies and also can handle outside of the jelly realm. And beyond into T3

I think that post leaves no room for speculation
to quote it:
"
I just crafted a Nightblade and a Cautery Sword to compare their damage against the Royal Jelly. Both swords made it to level 5 by the time I got to B17.
First hit of the Nightblade's combo did 74 damage
First hit of Cautery Sword's combo did 64 damage
"
I stand corrected.
The Cautery is exactly as awful as everyone thinks it is.
It's because the jelly king is not, in fact, jelly, the same way Vanaduke isn't undead. Bosses seem to have no types so far. So higher total (normal+shadow) base damage beats out the not working bonus.
The Royal Jelly is definitely affected by UVs versus Slimes. It has been tested.
I stand corrected.
That's pretty lame though.
I'm pretty sure nightblade.
