My friends want me to play this game but:
It won't launch. I downloaded it, I used the website, I updated java, I meet all minimum requirements...
I'm on windows XP SP3.

What happens is that it gets to 100% and then sits there forever doing nothing in the website launcher.
The icon/desktop launcher doesn't even load.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there a way you can run

Is there a way you can run the installer from a console? That way it may show an error message.

I'm not sure how I'd do that.

I'm not sure how I'd do that. That term is unfamiliar to me. Sorry.
But I tried launching on the website, on my desktop and through Steam. None worked.

It just stays stuck at 100% and then doesn't launch. Is that more clear, maybe?

php101, it sounds like you

php101, it sounds like you might have a program blocking Spiral Knights, or your internet connection might not be stable enough. Are you playing the game on a wireless internet connection? If so, try plugging your ethernet cable directly into the computer to see if that helps at all. You might be able to update the firmware on your router, but you should try the cable to be sure that that is the issue.
Please refer to the sticky for more information about firewalls and unblocking ports on your router.

Check the launcher.log and

Check the launcher.log and projectx.log files.

If it can complete the update correctly, you should see several strings of java parameters ending in "com.threerings.projectx.client.ProjectXApp" inside the launcher.log. Depending where it stops, we'll just have to figure it out from there.
