Special Veteran Player Item or Icon

Recently I came back online and a lot has changed from the days when all there was arcade and that was really it. There was no such thing as missions or pets etc. Those were the good old days when the game was simple for us veteran players. I also miss the old days when you could revive a team mate with your own health. Any who when I came on a good amount of players were calling me hacker because I was wearing rank 5 gear when I had earned them back then through arcade. So I found out about the new ranking system and was showing me the lowest rank well that explains a lot since you needed a higher rank in it to wear the gear. Further looking I saw there was really no way to tell a veteran player from an other. So I propose there should be some kind of item or an icon next to there name that means veteran player or even title to show hold old we are. It would clear up some of confusion I have been getting and other veteran players have had to put up with. Anyone else feel there needs to be something like this?

If your an average Veteran, you have Lionheart

If your older than an veteran, you have a Beta Groundbreaker.

So you're saying that I'll never be "older than an veteran", then? Even though I joined the game at steam release, which was only a few weeks after the beta ended?

yes, but

I understand your point. You're a player from "way back", and it would be nice to be acknowledged as such, rather than being suspected of cracking the game or buying your way to 5-star gear.

On the other hand, if you haven't played the game in well over a year --- for half of the game's running life thus far --- then you're not very involved in the community, you no longer have an expert understanding of what's going on, etc. In this sense you do not deserve special respect.

Ranks and prestige are the closest we get to the kind of acknowledgment you want. So get working on yours. Once you are a Vanguard with 45,000 prestige, no one will be able to tell you from the other "veterans", except if you tell them how ancient you are.

To answer your question more directly: I had an idea that each knight could have a beard or a ponytail, whose length is proportional to his/her playing time, or the time since the knight was made, or whatever.

@Canine

So when next year rolls around, and Qwote here has worked a ton to improve her Spiral Skills, and some beta player that hasn't played in 2-3 years logs on, Qwote will be an "average veteran" and the beta player will be "older than an veteran", and somehow better than Qwote? Is that how this works?

@Bopp

Or we could all just be judged based on how well we perform based on what gear we have?

Yes, that would be ideal. But it's hard to implement --- you can't do a test run with everyone. The next best thing is just not to judge knights at all, perhaps.

It's clear that a sense of progress is important to player psychology. Marching up the star levels is the main kind of progress in this game. Achievements, prestige, and rank are others, that get at slightly different aspects of the game. It's not unreasonable to me that there would a sense of progress tied to how long a knight has played, or how long a knight has lived. But I don't care much about this issue --- I was just responding to the thread.

my 2 cents

If your an average Veteran, you have Lionheart

If your older than a veteran, you have a Spiral Bombhead Mask

If your older than an older veteran, you have a Beta Groundbreaker.

____

I was already Vanguard by the time they brought that junk out. I only equip it to annoy other players, but otherwise it just collects dust.

Mawashimono is saddened . . .

. . . by all the knights who have been denied the glory of possessing the Honory Lionheart Blade that Spiral Knights so thoughtfully honored her Lionheart guild with. Unfortunately, it is beyond even the considerable powers of the Dragon Princess to grant you this boon. Stay brave and true, fair knights, and perhaps someday your dreams will come true.
