We all know the player base is decreasing rapidly for both new players joining the game, and also old veterans realising sk isn't what it used to be. It won't be long before Nick can't afford to keep servers running so how long do YOU think it'l take before Sk evaporates from the list of mmorpgs?
how long...
The player base is decreasing, hiss?
Then I will estimate, hiss.
I've been seeing threads like this for two and a half years. People have always been saying that the game is dying, at least since the big controversial update in May 2011.
Please don't make threads like this. The only practical effect that they can have is to scare away new players.
I have a screenshot of the SK player count on Steam up to 3K plus the VERY DAY the battlesprites came out. Though that doesn't mean the whole base, it's still a good reference. But I can't post it because I sort of implemented a curse-filter-avoiding bad word in it :\.
/me feels dumb.
This game will probably never shut down. As long as a small group of people are paying enough money Spiral Knights can never officially 'die'. As much as people hate all these reskined items and random events, they are doing their job. Just take a look around Haven and count the number of Recon Rangers, Apocreans, Battle Chefs, and Polar Wolves you see. Those are all people that most likely bought some energy with real life money in order to collect things that will eventually become unique and maybe even rare items.
Or you can just count the total people in Haven. Those are all people that still play this game. First count all the Vanguards, then count all the Apprentices. Those Vanguards can count as the 'old' players that are still playing Spiral Knights while the Apprentices can be the 'new' players that are just stating Spiral Knights. If you ask me, this game wont die off anytime soon.
I for one will not quit until OOO decides to make everyone wolvers. If they decide to buff up all the Plate Mail sets to have the defense they are suppose to, I will never leave.
By attempting to measure if the game is dying or not, you cause it to become reality, not just a probability.
Love how I can instantly point out major updates, such as Steam release for TF2 Hats, Steam Holiday event 2011, Missions update, and Battle Sprite update, all without looking at the dates below first.
C'mon, man. Gotta stop predicting SK's impending doom and have fun while it lasts.
I know what hexzyle is talking about and he's right.
Why do threads like these scare off new players, Bopp?
a little example for you, mystrian.
say there is a bank. a person everyone trusts say that the bank will fail. in fact, the bank it's not failing, but since this person said that it's failing, everyone pull out their money from the bank, and the bank fails.
a game works in a similar way. if someone says that the game is failing, nobody wants their work to be vanished, and so they just quit playing, or don't start at all. since you cannot know how much of a respectable person the OP is, it's better not taking risks and not approach the game.
Never.
