Selling it at a lower cost will attract people to buy it, as oppose to getting a cheaper one at the supply depot. This way, you can earn back at least some amount of currency lost when you bought it off the supply depot.

What type of sprite is it? If it's a Drakon pod I'd be interested. Also, you could advertise it around a couple well-populated havens and see if someone who was already planning on getting a sprite takes pity on you and buys it, perhaps even for full price.

If you have not opened the Battle Sprite Pod, then you can sell it. However, if it's already open, you're out of luck.
