Spiral Knights' two current PvP game modes pay homage to a few games to create interesting and even fun minigames. With Blast Network being Spiral Knights Bomberman, and Lockdown being a hodge podge of Dominion and Team Fortress 2 and much more. These minigames lean towards taking the mechanics of Spiral Knights, and putting them in a situation that draws away from the gameplay of Spiral Knights' PVE.

In addition, Spiral Knights has many guiltless nods to the Legend of Zelda series. So, while brainstorming some ideas for a new possibly fun minigame, I figured, why not pay homage to something that's been a staple of the series? What exactly am I referring to? Well, Dead Man's Volley, or as most refer it to, Tennis or even Ganonball.

But how would it work in Spiral Knights? Well, it's not much, but I made a few mock-up images. The rules of Dead Man's Volley are simple. Smack, shoot, or blow up the glowing orb of something back and forth, with increasing difficulty as the thingamabob is in flight. The orb, just as in A Link To The Past, takes the angle you hit it at into account, rather than snapping directly at your foe in its path of flight, meaning that Auto Target is more of a hindrance than help. (implying that it isn't already ha) Score points by striking the opponent's goal or the opponent themself with the Hadouken wannabe. If your opponent lets the glowy glow strike the goal area behind them, the orb will split up into several quick moving projectiles which they must then avoid. Getting hurt by either the main orb or the smaller ones deducts a small amount of points. You cannot damage the other player with your own weapons directly, and your own gear's stats are irrelevant to the game itself. You can't benefit from ASI from a Swiftstrike, Vog Cub, Justifier, or trinkets. The level/stats of the gear in this game is irrelevant, because once again, you aren't attacking the other player directly. After a set amount of time, the player/team with the most points is declared the victor by King Krogmo, with a payout of 280 crowns and 2 Krogmo Coins, and the runner up getting 1 Krogmo as a consolation prize.

I am churning a few more ideas to make this idea for a minigame more varied, rather than giving every player the same Loadout, but I'm afraid I wouldn't have much to say at the moment.
