The same boss at the bottom of every single gate is not. Bleh.
I get that bosses are fun, but...
Did the devs comment on this?
From the looks of it.... they locked the 25 from 27 to firestorm, it's kinda a kill joy for me not to be able to play some normal levels to the core in the 3rd tier.
There's also the fact that the duke along can clock up to 30+ mins and the reward for killing him does not do justice.
My suspicion is that there aren't any other "bosses" implemented into the game yet, and that gates that reach the Core are automatically set to Firestorm Citadel just to make it difficult to reach the Core.
If this is true, I must say I do not like it. If there were other bosses in the game to guard the Core, then fine, but just one? This is more of a giant, monotonous inconvenience than an actual challenge for people who just want to hit the Core and be done with it like before Vanaduke parked his huge backside on Depth 28.
I love this change. Waiting for a boss was annoying, getting to the core without facing one was silly. Now we just need more bosses!

I agree that there should be a challenge before reaching the core, but the way it drags on with firestorm just get tedious instead of fun.
Firestorm used to be the shiny present tucked away for a special occasion..... now it's just clock work.
With time, we'll get more boss levels/battles, just wait for a while
Nick said they were about to release one, but got distracted by Christmas
*has also been distracted by Christmas... or rather, was dragged home for a week*
Yeah, I understand that.
So we're actually getting a new boss then? Can't wait to see what this one will be like, and how badly it will kick my (*censored!*).
Lol what if the boss came for new years :O
A giant Santa along with his minions?
On that note: I'm deeply disappointed that Vanaduke didn't get a Christmas hat. Is there something against jolly flaming giants?
perhaps he got a lump of coal instead
He ran out of hats when he gave every zombie of his one :/ isn't he the most generous evil boss ever?
Something else for the minerals to affect, maybe?
It might require a lot of work + implementation + etc. but I think it sounds pretty neat. Each kind of mineral could have a specific boss at the end, or maybe their own 'Firestorm's.

Hailstorm Castle, Thunderstorm Castle, I would love to see some themed like that :o
Lol and there should be a Witch's Castle (Curse)
there is 1 open 3tiers gate without boss, i went to the core but there wasnt anything
Nick probably undid the lock he put on the last 4 levels. And yes, the Core isn't finished yet. You only get around 20 red treasure boxes.
They should make a Jelly Cube Boss named Zantar.
I actually kind of like the idea of having a series of stages and a boss themed around each of the status effects.
Fire: Firestorm. (Duh.)
Freeze: Some kind of ice castle? (We need some snow stages regardless.)
Shock: Maybe a very high-tech area. (With robots and lasers! And beam puppies!)
Poison: A ruined castle in a swamp. (Sunken, of course.)
Curse: A haunted castle. (They don't have to all be castles.)
Sleep: Probably something that resembles Starlight Cradle. (Lots of slooms.)
Stun: Okay, I'm at a loss here. (Maybe a forest with Lumbers? I really don't know.)
Then again, I also want to see something with devilites.
Curse, shock and sleep might be annoying though if you really want to implement those statuses in there. They're all quite harsh on you if you're in the middle of a fight. Curse leaves you without the ability to attack for over 30 seconds, shock leaves you nearly unable to attack for 5-10 seconds and sleep, well with the recent change you need at least 2 hits before waking up, which at that depth can easily mean death.
>Curse, shock and sleep might be annoying though if you really want to implement those statuses in there.
And fire isn't? At that depth fire deals a lot of damage per tick. Also, I think that curse only affects the weapon equipped when you get cursed, meaning that you can switch weapons until it wears off.
>Stun: Earthquakes.
Ooh. Maybe a mountain fortress or something.
@Shroom
Although the tool tips says that only one weapon is affected by the curse, the one inflected from faust affects all weapons you have.....
Depends on your curse resistance. I only carry two weapons, and need quite a lot of curse resistance to stop both weapons from being cursed at once. Can't say what happens with 3+ weapons.
Also: It also curses some of your vials/pills! It really sucks when your recovery pills keep getting cursed :P
Boss stages being influenced by status effects? I would've been more inclined to think that they would go by enemy type. Firestorm Citadel is crawling with zombies and Trojans, and Vanaduke is essentially a Trojan-style boss. Frankly I wouldn't mind seeing some Devilite, Jelly (lol) or maybe even a Wolver boss.
P.S.: lol suicide pills
Shroom: Fire isn't such a big deal. You can shield for a few seconds and be perfectly immune to the status, or even shield - attack - shield between the 'ticks' of fire damage.
For Curse, as far as I know it randomly curses up to 5 weapons/vials. Curse resistance only reduces how long your curse status remains? What I hate most about these is that you can't use status cure vials if that vial is cursed too. The vial breaks due to the inflicted damage before you get to use it. Same goes for slower weapons, you can't even attack due to the inflicted damage. Faster weapons can attack still however..
Is there anything other than Faust at the moment that inflicts curse? Because you're all talking about it like you've been cursed a lot, but personally I never have.
PvP too? If there are curse vials out there.
Nonetheless, why would the curse status from a Faust or Gran Faust be worth any less? A status is a status, regardless of its source.
nice beam puppy idea! i wish i could make an edit of that right now...
I think the idea stems from the fact that each mineral can be related to an "element" and each "element" can be connected to a status effect.
Mob-style bosses sound good, but I'm not looking forward to chasing a giant Wolver! LOL.

Exactly! We need the lesser bosses, and more lairs filled with powerful monsters (I loved that level!)
