Is it just me or is spiral knights like a dying game already? there is very little ppl active nowadays
Dying game?
But in general its just a matter of perspective.
Whether or not there are people of extremely short stature playing this game is no indication of it's health. On a more serious note, please both move this thread to the graveyard by editing your original post and using the drop down menu, and refrain from making this type of thread in the future, as it can scare newer players away from the game.
nah game isnt dying just changing and people either moving on or just staying in the game until they think its time to try any other game.
just because your friend list, guild list its empty or less active doesnt mean the game is dying, because your friends or guild members arent the whole Spiral Player base, i tell you this because my friends barely play (around 30 friends on my list and only 1 or 2 online) or my guild being less active everyday (like 3 or 4 members around 2pm to 4 pm).
because havens are empty doesnt mean the game is dying, check the party finder and pretty sure you will find people playing, check spectator mode in LD and you certainly will find people playing, sure haven used to have a lot of people but have considered that maybe a few people are in their guild halls ? probably they dont like to be laggy in haven, or dont like the stalkers. well whatever, the point its just because you dont see a bunch of player in the place you are doesnt mean the game is dying.
also remember the game is pretty pretty short, once you beat Farmanaduke what you have to do? shadow lairs well its optional unless you want the armors, the echo stones or well a challenge but then again you will be done in matter of time with them, danger mission are also optional but you can try to farm and get a lot of prestige for your pony badge and well hope that someday OOO reward you according the prestige you gathered. try pvp either LD or BN or just be a fashioned player who like to look awesome or just an expert merchant making profit the game, but then again those are optional stuff to do like many others did because there isnt something else to do after you defeat Farmanaduke.
many players can leave the game but, while 3 or 4 veterans players leave the game, another 10-20 newbies joins the game and some of them will try the game and quit and others will stay until they get Farmanaduke and look what to do, if quit the game or do the optional stuff. and the cycle goes on and on and on. a never ending cycle.
The amount of people playing the game on Steam is generally stable and fluctuates around 1000. Someone arrives, someone quits; it's always been like that. This is SK, you know; you either love it or hate it, with no third option ever.
Nah it is not dying. See post #4.
You will see people start to flood the haven again when January update come out.
EDIT: I mean gunner update /sob
Aplauses (#7) posted:
"You will see people start to flood the haven again when January update come out."
As for the topic, Canozo (well know player from Lockdown) quit (Threads somewhere) reason I know the name Canozo is from the profile on Osu! (exclamation mark is part of the game's name).
There are people active. Just different time zones.
Please don't post stuff like this. When new recruits join and see this, this will discourage them. You want more people to play SK? Then move this thread to the graves and keep **** like these to yourself.
He doesn't have to. We can be brutally honest if we feel like it, and "new recruits" are not the main concern. Yeah, it is a dying game. HEAR THAT!?!?!?! NEWBIES!? This game is DYING! D-Y-I-N-G
/yawn
Go wear your cardboard signs and stink of cheap whiskey somewhere else where we don't have to look at your dirt ridden unshaven beards and wrinkled faces.
Seerusly, if you guys don't post stuff like this, MORE ****** people would play! In the end, you are always contradicting yourself!
The game IS dying, whether you accept it or not. SK fame and glory are left behind with the ME update...
So many vets left the game, if you spend your time in Haven 1 (like I do whenever I log) you would notice a drastic change in the market... A lot of big name left the scene, names that influence the market more than what they let you think...
Having newcomer is awesome, would help a lot of game but won't help SK problem... Because SK problem are end-game, F2P vs P2P model problem... Radiant, Orb, Acheron vs Obsidian, brandish vs the world and wolver clones... being 2* in SK is not a problem in any way whatsoever, being 4* and 5* is where most of your problems start...
The game will stay afloat due to TF2 market, there will always be people because of that so it will never ultimately die but the population did leave...
January is a low part fo SK anyway because SK is seasonal, you log, you play for the promo, you leave and play something else until next promo... people will be back the 29 for the gunner upadte, will see how good/bad it is and will stay for the amount of time they see fit... I did 2 grinchlins assault before coming to the conclusion of not getting anything and stop playing 3 days after the update...
SK peaked before and is slowly decreasing, the game as become boring, too many brick walls I have to pay to get through or play 1000 hours... P2P model brings me nowhere... no need to ut $$$ in the game...
TL;DR yes the game is dying, lots of vets left, newcomer doesn't mean the game will survive as most problem are end-game not 2* related and people will come back for promo, since Winterfest just ended and we are all waiting gunner
EVEN if the game IS DYING, please do not post it here!!! Keep your thoughts to yourself!
@ Annilaton
The game is dying every month anyway... we leave after promo and come back for promos...
ragnarok, what you said is true. one thing: it was true even before the BS update.
4* and 5* always had the HoH grindwall to get over. the problem with endgame right now are only radiants, and I hope for this game's sake that OOO has something to deploy fast.
orbs aren't a problem; they cost exactly the same the cost for crafting was. dropped orbs are NOT meant to replace anything; they are there because we should be willing to use them in other weapons. weapon balance problem begins here.
now tell me, where has SK peaked?
I did 2 grinchlins assault before coming to the conclusion of not getting anything and stop playing 3 days after the update...
why are you still here? if you don't like the game, just say it. if you like it, well, your post doesn't make sense.
and there are still whales in this game. jempire and EoS are a good example. all the guys that hoard accessories and costumes are another one.
oh lol, dying? Excuse me, there are worse MMOs that have been for longer, less updated and yet they still haven't "died".
"Go wear your cardboard signs and stink of cheap whiskey somewhere else where we don't have to look at your dirt ridden unshaven beards and wrinkled faces."
+1
Veterans cry the game is dying.
The truth is, Veterans are dying and are scared to face this truth.
New players grow older and become the Veterans.
No MMO game is safe from this harsh circle of life.
"You don't stop having fun because you grow old. You grow old when you stop having fun"
"less updated and yet they still haven't "died"."
Look at the game Killing Floor. An underrated First Person Shooter (FPS). It got little attention. Still hasn't "died"
I've been reading threads just like this since May 2011.
Please do not discourage new players with threads like this. Please move this thread to the Graveyard.
"discourage new players "
Why is it discouraging?
Denial, denial everywhere!
The usual problem with MMOGs are that if it is getting old, it's not gonna be fun for newer players. MMOGs always seem to ditch new players, leaving them out. To succeed in MMOGs, you ought to be in it ever since the start, or otherwise you just can't make it unless you pay a hefty price tag. SK is no different. The game will die as long as older players are moving away, and it will happen. It is already discouraging to newer players.
Saying the game is dying is like stating an observation, but everyone knows that.
Okay, next stage! ANGER!!
straight:
game is failing, is bad. let's not play.
game is failing, probably nobody cares if I join. let's not play.
game is failing, let's not play.
zaffy:
NO, THIS GAME IS nope. nothing like that on me. besides, it doesn't work like that. we see old players move away every day, that's true. there are also unsolved problems on this game. relating that to the game dying, nah. you could say admin not responding to there issues and leaving veterans alone, that would be more compelling arguments.
besides, we all know no MMO will be running forever. yes, CoD haters, there is still hope.
This is discouraging people, and this thread is pointless.
Zaffy-Laffy:

But here's the thing: Three Rings has been trying to make the game fun for newer players for a long, long time.
I do kind of recommend any old veterans [like, 2011-2012 players] start a new character and try to play it to T2, and try not to think about what you already know about the game. The priorities and pace are completely foreign/different now. It's fairly invisible to most veteran players, but Three-Rings has been trying to put focus on making the game more welcoming to newer players (really, look at almost all the content updates from RT to missions, minibosses/new starter costumes, to pets and free elevators). Older players (say, "Vanguard"/end of the current mission path) are all bound to leave at some point, but the health of a, MMO game is keeping their new players and getting them to stay and pay before that.
The old Energy gate system was straight out of facebook land, which also made the paywall obvious in-your-face at first. Now, it's much more subtle of a thing because until 5*/endgame, it plays like a completely F2P grind (...yeah, grinding) game where you're collecting drops to progress, with a pay-to-advance option.
So that said, you might get a better idea of how new players might see the game if you try making a new character.
Yes the games dying. OOO is killing it but not as fast as the nasty, bossy, forumers are killing the forum. You know, those bossy ones that troll every thread, the self proclaimed mods, the ones telling others what to post, how to post it and where to post what they want and don't want. The ones who demand things like mist removal then whine about they way things are after they get what the demanded. The ones who act poorly on the forum until they get what they want and believe all bad actions are warranted then deny being part of it. The game itself is nowhere near as sick as the forum is.
/me hears the forum cough and beg for antibiotics.
- Stop posting.
- Thread slowly gets moved a few pages back
- Forget about it
- done!
now tell me, where has SK peaked?
About November-December 2011... right after the start of accessories/costumes... that was the peak and the most fun I had running the Arcade... BN was in, LD was fresh out of the oven and people were in BN rather than LD...
My old schedule:
BN everyday, Mod calibrator 50 tokens for 12k cr, antigua 90k cr... for 500 ce + 100 ME unbind fee... yup.... good old days... Take a day off Arcade, take a full day of BN... take a day off BN, take a full day of arcade... Active community (dev and GM wise, had a lot of random msg in the chat from them)... 6 months after Steam launch...?
Missions put SK on a crutch, hindering the Arcade, the cycle of the Arcade is now RNG rather than player made... costumes and accessories were good at first but with each reskin/promo lost it's touch...
The point of OOO trying to attract F2P is because the market is very F2P driven. Paying players sell energy to the much needy free players, that's why OOO has to attract players.
Problem is, you are not gonna have an endless supply of players in the world. What are you gonna do when we run out of players?
Looking at spoils Spiral Knights, it may still not be at the stage where it starts to decline yet, but its time will come. Maybe it has already come.
Play any old MMORPG, Runescape, Maplestory, Tricksta Online, Gunbound... The moment you start, you are gonna feel that epic pay gap, and you will be immediately discouraged.
May 2013
We had those cool new guild halls. The guilds were active and fun. PvP/GvG was happening and all the guilds wanted to be number one. The birthday event was fabulous. The game was full of active people. Even hanging out in Haven was fun. That peek continued to heighten until July 31, 2013 when it came to a crashing updated halt.
"now tell me, where has SK peaked?"
In sheer amount of players, when the TF2 hat came out.
I actually agree with the philospophy that the game is dying. More latency lag has popped up even though I'm in Canada and relatively close to their servers in Virgina. The servers are obviously choking and there's only a matter of time before it becomes as bad as people have it in Australia & South America.
Problem is, you are not gonna have an endless supply of players in the world. What are you gonna do when we run out of players?
Sorry, did copulation suddenly become illegal?
Making a thread about the game is dying doesn't make the population any better. It just worsen it. Instead of being pessimistic, you guys should start be more encouraging. Jeez.
@Hexzy
I'm pretty sure copulation is still allowed, but pregnancy isn't xD
Perhaps a better way of saying it is that, the rate of potential players decreasing is greater than there is increasing.
I'd personally like to see some Official statistics before passing something off as fact.
Edit: The game isn't dying.

253 human years pass every single day, btw.
Are you suggesting humanity has a birthday every 5.7 minutes?
If the population's race is distributed in a perfectly uniform fashion, everyone dies at the same age, and every time someone dies, another is born, then yes.
Of course it's a generalization, but it's still going to be somewhere around that number, on average.
Also note that due to that logic, every 5.7 minutes someone reaches the age of 13. (In reality it'd be a bit less since not every child born reaches that age)
One word, and I think I can guarantee 100% of the community can agree on this: School
Not very sure but could be School.
