I have been playing this game for about three years, and it recently occurred to me that this game might have an end, something I don't look forward to. So, to repeat the title, how long will this game last before it completely dies out and OOO shuts down the servers?

It's funny because there is countless mmorpgs that have been going on for 5+ years. We're still in our baby steps. I don't think this game will be dying out anytime soon.
Buuut talking about this is as enjoyable as it talking about death in real life.
We're all going to die. You, me, and every single person reading this post. No one likes talking about it but accepting it makes it feel much better. So do what you can now with no regrets.
Enjoy your time while you have it, and leave a mark for those for in the future to marvel at. Make your life count.

Spiral Knights will end with the release of Spiral Knights 2, obviously. So, we have plenty of time, don't worry. OOO will need another dozen of years to develop a new game.

It's already dying.
The only reason it's not dead because OOO refuses to give up.
The latency lag has started to go berserk to even people very close to the servers, something that shows the game is dying.
We don't know. I've been reading threads about the game dying ever since it launched in April 2011. For example, there's already a thread like that on the front page of General Discussion.
If you care about the game, then please do not make threads about the game ending. New players who see a bunch of gloomy threads on the forums might think that the game is dying. And then the game will die. Indeed, please move this thread to the Graveyard (by editing the original post and choosing that forum from the drop-down menu).
Edit: You said that you're not looking forward to the end, and I believe you. But please end this thread anyway. Cheers.
