i have a unlearned pepperbox recipie, which is better, and why? it says slight cance for fire on pepperbox, both do same damage, execpt needle is pierceing, and less spread, moar range, but considering T2 and T3 clockworks, which is better?, thanks and post your comments as to which is better (and which of its upgrades are better overall, too)

If its your only gun i'd go with the Pepperbox as it deals normal damage while Needle Shot could cause you troubles against constructs (gun puppies). And generally, stuff that is weak to piercing is fast with dodging and leaping so standing still while bursting can get you damaged.

The needle shot is not great against piercing-weak enemies.

Trying to hit a wolver with a needle shot is like trying to shoot a piece of cornbread out of the air while falling-down drunk, except you're not Jeff Bridges.

Facing devilites with a needle shot is pretty much just putting a sign on your head that says "Stapler me like a naughty schoolgirl."

Neither (but if you insist, Needle Shot)

Pepperbox doesn't give you less trouble against gun pups, since you need to get really close to them in order to hit them (unless you're satisfied with landing just a bullet or two, but then killing it just takes forever, which again is more dangerous). The pepperbox's range is abysmal.

If it's about gun pups, it's safer to use a sword than that gun. Or just use the Needle Shot and fire an extra round of bullets from a safe distance, it's not so hard. At least the Needle Shot is the gun with the best range in the entire game.

Overall I think the autoguns are both poor choices though. Unless you really like machine guns, then it's about taste and I won't argue against that.

Can't deny autoguns are hard to use unless you're wearing gear that ups their attack speed, ie Gunslinger gear + Swiftstrike. Only then is the inability to move minimized, and you can shield fast enough to block anything you didn't kill. As for which is better, I think the Pepperbox is better than the Needleshot for two key reasons. First, Pepperboxes do Normal type damage, so you can use it more often if weapon slots are limited for you. Second, the Charge attack of the Pepperbox is much more powerful, because it draws in enemies so more bullets hit.

Pepper Box

I'm a big fan of autoguns, regardless of how they perform. I crafted one of each. while I like the look and idea of the needle shot more, I found that alot of the targets I use a gun for, the piercing did minimal damage to. The pepperbox does a better job of getting damage done, and sets enemies on fire pretty regularly.

You should read up on the damage type wiki page. This will help you to know what types of damage are more effective against which types of monsters. You can find it here:

Contrary to what others say

Contrary to what others say in this thread, I'd actually recommend Needle Shot! Mainly because both of those guns are kind of subpar; They are only really so effective against some specific mobs.

The Pepperbox is great for slower/larger mobs such as Lumbers or Zombies. However, myself, I don't really enjoy it much because of the smaller bullet range and the wider spread - Together with not being able to move while shooting, this can be pretty harmful when trying to dodge.

The Needle Shot has a higher base power, tighter spread and longer bullet range, so for Gremlins, Undead, Beasts and Fiends it's going to be generally stronger than the Pepperbox. The Needle Shot actually has the best damage output on charge attacks in the whole game; If you manage to land a focused hit (as in, all bullets hit) from a charge attack on Trojans on Tier 3, using a Blitz Needle, you'll end up seriously dealing over 2000 damage.

If you manage to land focused normal hits, it's going to easily be over 600 damage, aswell. Two shots and you get 1200+.

The Autogun series has a pretty slow recover though, so an attack speed UV, the Nameless set or even Swiftstrike would be recommended, otherwise it's pretty easy to screw up and get hit because of the slow recover.

I haven't used a Pepperbox ever since the Preview so I can't really tell much about it myself, however, I can talk about the Needle Shot:
-Great for Gremlins. Forcing them to dodge actually grants extra safety, and since Gremlins are rather "large" in T3, it's easy to land quite a few bullets.
-Dangerous against Devilites, but also very strong. It's much harder to hit Devilites with the Needle Shot, however their dodging also ends up forcing them into other bullets, and together with the weakness they take a lot of damage. But considering Devilites are pretty fast, you probably shouldn't try this on solo!
-Awesome for Trojans. Since they're large, it's easy to land several hits even if you're far away from them. The charge simply crushes trojans, although it's not easy to use.
-...Owns Chromalisks?
-Decent for Zombies.
-Useless against any Construct or Jelly. Can still dish out somewhat low but decent damage against Lumbers or Lichen Colonies, however. Obviously not the best choice, though.
-Not really an option against Greavers, Wings or Kats.
-Obviously gonna suck against Wolvers. Most guns do, anyway.
-Best DPS available against Vanaduke. ('s body) Not the best mobility, however with some practice and possibly attack speed bonuses, you can safely attack Vanaduke and deal tons of damage without having to worry much about getting hit.
