Gunner update mini-sneak peek in the Steam cards? (Or maybe just a recolor for the sake of composition)

So, the steam trading cards came out, and like every other proper game that got them the full art images that you get with each one are friggen' beautiful. I got three cards so far and they'd all make for nice wallpapers. Here we have the drakon: http://i.imgur.com/tlfefpT.jpg
and then there's the love puppy: http://i.imgur.com/Q8HHxvl.jpg
and even good ol' Lord Vanaduke: http://i.imgur.com/OSU9Skt.jpg

But wait a second, what's that poor knight wielding in the Vanaduke image? It looks like a Magnus, and it certainly takes its shape, but it has the color scheme of a Callahan instead!

... I have no idea what to conclude from this to be honest. Perhaps it's a little sneak peek at one of the new guns coming out in the gunner update, or maybe showing off some visual changes they're making to the guns during the update, or maybe they just decided that the Magnus and the Callahan both didn't look quite right so they meshed the two together for the sake of composition, but the hype train has no brakes and I figured I might as well throw a bit more fuel into the mix, so feel free to speculate.

Edit: And the Darkfang Mender has a sword. http://i.imgur.com/FthoDot.jpg

I don't know any more. I doubt there's any sort of update hint to be honest, but still, interesting images.

?

Where would you view these full art images on the steam trading cards? And why did you link to imgur? Wouldn't a steam page link make sense?

EDIT: Thanks, Folwchart

click on a card in your inventory and pick 'view badge progress'
then click on the large images of any trading card you have.

They are natively hosted on steam, as can be seen here http://media.steampowered.com/steamcommunity/public/images/items/99900/1...

... But I'm not entirely sure if that link is static, that is, if it'll change if I trade my card or something, and I didn't want to take any chances. Plus I'm hoping to compile an album of the whole set pretty soon so I'm working on that I guess.

And yup, thank you Flowchart.

In my opinion...

That image looks like a normal Callahan.

Not really...

Nah, a normal callahan has four blue dots at its tip, and has a sort of cross-shaped tip rather than the flat shape of the rest of the magnus line. The gun in the image is pretty clearly flat and only has two blue dots on its tip, at the top and bottom.

For reference, the Callahan page via the wiki: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Callahan

Yeah it's a Magnus with Callahan texture, you can do stuff like that in Spiral Spy too.
I think some of the NPC knights have stuff like that too, with different textures on regular equipment.

That was what the Callahan looked like when it first came out. Weapons didn't get distinct models until long after the full game's release.

Wait what...

Well I have no idea what happened there...

But on a more relevant post, yeah I doubt it's really any sort of update hint now as there are a few more odd things in some of the pictures. For instance, the Darkfang Mender is wielding a random sword: http://i.imgur.com/FthoDot.jpg

That's the base of a Wrench Wand which was likely cropped in order enlarge the mender's body on the card. Why they didn't fix it for the wallpaper is beyond me, but it's only a "sword" in the sense of pre-patched menders no longer shooting Ember Bolts or attempting to attack on their own.

Check the Wiki image of what the Wrench Wand looks like by default and you'll see my point.

Lol, it totally is just a chopped up wrench wand! Really puts the wallpaper to shame.
