Are status resistance effects on equipment additive?

I feel like this is such a girl noob question, but I cannot find anything in the wiki that supports or identifies this...

Background: I'm a defender elite, and my current gear are: azure guardian armor lvl 3, valkyrie helm lvl 2, combuster lvl 3, polaris lvl 4, and wise owlite shield lvl 7. The problem is that the valkyrie helm has a negative fire resist (I'd be more susceptible to fire), but has wonderful normal and shadow resist-I chose the helm because it looked pretty. Too offset this issue, I am planning to get the grey owlite shield, since it has more positive fire resist than the valkyrie's negative fire resist. I am hoping that the differential between the two will at least put my overall equipment at a 'positive' fire resist.

So my question is: will this logic work in the metagame? or is there a bug i am unaware about?

And for the record, I have the heavenly guardian armor too. Because its very very pretty <3

Help a girl out pweaseeeeee!

Your shield has no effect on your defence. Only your helmet, armour, UVs on both, trinkets, and Sprite perks will effect your main defence. Your shield has no additive effect, it only protects more against that status, making it take more hits before it breaks.

yep

Dibsville is right. To learn more, you might want to read the wiki page "Abilities". Also "Shield" and "Shieldbearer Guide", to learn about how shields work. As Dibsville said, they have nothing to do with armor.

As an aside, my recommendation is that you stop heating Azure Guardian. It is considered one of the worst armors in the game, mainly because it has no status protections. Its damage protections seem strong, but piercing is arguably the least important damage protection to have. Sorry.

Also, both of your weapons are elemental. You might want to work on some piercing and shadow weapons. In most areas of the Clockworks, you want to have two non-normal damage types, if you can.
