I kindly suggest you do the following:
Sell off all your mats / gears / recipes and vendor all your bounded items.

Place huge amount of orders for CE.
Drive CE to 10k / 100.

This essentially creates a barrier for new players who had no prior knowledge and disatisfication of the patches to join the game.
Old players who have been through the patches, disatisfied with the them and 3Rs lack of response, especially those who are inactive / have only been playing on mist will have a much more significant impact.

If you quit simply because of the changes made to this game, you might as well use your last efforts to protest against it.
If 3R gets destroyed coz of this, it because of their own behaviour and lack of attention to the community.

Best Regards,
Unhappy Customer

Wouldn't raising the cost of CE just give new players an incentive for buying CE with real money, thus supporting OOO in their tyranny?

Alternatively, buy stuff from the ThreePanelSoul Store at TopTaco.

Hey, I bet most of the SK players here don't know Ian sells his art online. (The non-SK ones, incidentally).

That, and while boycotts and destroying the energy economy are valid ways to protest, why resort to the destructive methods? Keep voicing out dissatisfaction until they are forced to listen.

A clever protest :-)

I love the idea. Playing this game without putting some money toward it definitely isn't as viable as it used to be. Doing this would make it clear to new players.

Really, though, OOO has done a good job. They've deserved every dollar I've given them. They were also kind enough to make entry into the game free so that I'd have an opportunity to try it before I committed financially. With their set up I could pay slowly until I got to a point in which I could be self-sufficient and play for free from then on.

Spiral Knights isn't charity. OOO is running a business. They made a product. To expect it to be completely free is something of an entitled mentality that, I do agree, new players shouldn't adopt.

I'd rather want new players

I'd rather want new players to understand that OOO is making a good game for people to enjoy. And in turn show their appreciation in a monetary way. Or if that's too idealistic for you I'd rather expect people expecting to get stuff for free. Of course a company should aim to cover all important ideological groups..

OOO isn't charity and it's also not an educational institution. Can't say they capture as many potential buyers as they could. Not like I got any data lol..

Don't up the prices like that, you'll just be hurting the rest of us players who still enjoy playing the game.

Wow, kicking down everything

Wow, kicking down everything in the store on your way out the door - classy.

Better warn anyone who gets into a relationship with this person to keep on their toes - cause if this is anything to go by, that person has some slashed tires and burnt lawns to look forward to if the relationship goes south.

Poor OOO

When I see children throwing tantrums because they can't have toy they want, I can't help but feel pity for the parents.

If you don't like the game, just stop playing. Don't try to ruin it for everyone just because you want to be spoiled.

It's a just a stupid game, if you're going to throw any form of protest, do it something that actually matters like the irl economy, or war or something that actually has an effect in our lives.

This isn't new.

This reminds me of the old Three Rings game called "Bang! Howdy!"
Over a course of several months they slowly converted the game to a pay-only-or-don't-play with the following steps.

1) Anyone who wanted to get gold from other players (Gold was the CE equivalent.) would have to buy a license which cost one gold.
2) Anyone who wanted to get one gold would have to buy it with real currency.
3) A license to buy certain items was released and given to everyone who had a gold license. (I never got mine and Three Rings wouldn't give me one a week later.)
4) Everyone who had gold and a license but an unpaid account could not use the undownloaded version to login, and could only login once a download, before having to redownload.
5) This caused Three Rings to delete all 'inactive' accounts.
6) They ignored all complaints to not being able to login, and refused to restore deleted accounts.
7) A year later, we can login, but we cannot do anything, furthermore population of the game was reduced to 20-50 online at any given time when it was used to be closer to 300-500.
8) Finally, you see that their tactics have changed to appear reasonable while quickly getting boring.
(I once joined a floor with an afk disconnected host and lost ten energy because he wasn't there to stand on the pad, shouldn't there be a minute leave period to retain energy?)
9) You're probably all doomed, I posted this here, Three Rings remembers now, don't they? They don't need pansy tactics to make you quit, do they? It's called. "Time to play hardball."

If that "Bang! Howdy!" stuff is true it makes defending OOO much harder, because the counter argument will always be "they've done it before". I dunno though. For the time being the changes seem to be for the sake of balancing the game. Hopefully it stays that way, but no one can see into the future.

All In

Im down for this, even if only a few hours, it will make a strong statement if we can ban togeather. its not going to become a perminate price for CE, but i will show OOO that players want somthing done. I've invested more then 10 trades above 9k. Just for the fun of it, for a day lets see how well they handle this situation.

@Coranho: Good grief. Your

@Coranho:

Good grief.

Your points 1 and 2 are correct; Bang Howdy players never really embraced the exchangeable currency, so a package deal was tried instead. (Didn't quite work.)

3 is simply wrong--anyone who had made a purchase got the package. Those who hadn't made a purchase would need to do so in order to get the package.

5 was not tied to anything above. Bang Howdy always purged inactive accounts (as on Puzzle Pirates), but only after 6 months of inactivity, and only free accounts. Deleted accounts cannot be restored.

4, 6 and 7 are your technical issues. For example, if everyone had to re-download the game each time they want to log in, zero people would log in. Your assertion that players "cannot do anything" is also false, as I just logged in with my player account and went around, you know, doing things. (Like wandering into a back parlor and getting spammed with gang invites.)

8 and 9 your personal opinion, not steps in some master plan to get rid of players.

out!

lotro is a fully functional, smooth running MMO that attempted to compete w/wow and lost, so changed to ftp. Unlike sk, there are no time limits, there are limitations and a store to buy stuff in, but they aren't required if you want to play 3-4 hours a day. Economy is stable, lots of players.

My friend has a lvl 41 toon there, he's never paid a dime. Very finely tuned, tons of content.. I could play for months on lotro for free for hours a day if I had the time, and I wouldn't have to be limited to running the jelly king 5 times a day. Devs are highly involved as well.

3r really lost me with the last patch (a blatant cash grab) on an already greedy microtransaction system, one day I woke up and realized that there are much better alternatives, games where things are streamlined and finely tuned, tons of content, deeper gameplay, and most importantly no limits on game time.

Gonna take my credit card and my valuable time elsewhere.

@sl0shie Of course LotRO

@sl0shie
Of course LotRO would be more stable and have more content compared to SK, since it's been out since 2007. I think you and many others are just using the "cash grab" excuse to make a bad example out of TRD and leave. But, as you will.

Comparing the two is apples

Comparing the two is apples to oranges really, everything from music, graphics, controls, gear, UI, community, economy, NPC interaction, dev interaction, end game, combat system transparency, (real numbers vs vague bars) I could go on and on.. all those things lotro crushes SK.

The only place where SK outshines lotro is in limiting your playtime.

It's like having a choice between a 2003 kia or a 2012 porsche, the kia you can drive for a total of three hours a day, then you have to pay to drive it until the next day. The porsche you can drive 24/7 for no cost if you want. You gonna take the kia?

:p

That's a false analogy if I ever heard one.

Anyway, it doesn't matter what game you play, whether F2P or not; players like us will always pay to be able to play more. Personally I'm going to stick around and see what TRD will do in the next few months before completely abandoning a perfectly good game.

@ jooz I'm eating lunch

@ jooz

I'm eating lunch before heading to work, was deleting old bookmarks I don't use. Saw the SK bookmark and I thought I would see if anythings changed.

@ nova

I think it was an accurate analogy, here's a different one.

One product is vastly superior to another and has unlimited usage for no cost whatsoever, the other is extremely limited in comparison and to get similar usage you must pay for it.

Choose one.

So...

So... your saying we should tourch the "kia" or at the very least key the hood of it to mak it less appealing to anyone else that happens to come along. I like your style good sir! thats 3more sales of CE @ +9k CR. Lets make an event out of this thred, if Ce trade cost can go up to 10k i'll gladly give away all my Ce/Cr to one lucky person choosen at random!
