Hey y'all, I'm in need of a bit of advice. I'm planning on using acheron as my main go to weapon, and an electron vortex for cc purposes. I'm limiting myself to three weapons so here's the question: what should my third weapon be? I'd like to use a btb to cover for my fiend weakness but I also like to use polaris for when I get in a pinch/ need to take out gun puppies or trigger switches. Or should I be using something else? Some side info: I'm aiming for chaos set so that I can get the damage bonus and ctr bonus for all weapon types.
Acheron weapon set help
Go with an Auto-type gun (Pepperbox!). They can be very useful in tight situations, especially when you have a CTR bonus of VH or over.
Hey, don't handicap ur self to just three weapons, you will need alot more than just 3 to beat the game. But if you insist, then here are some of the stuff you can go for.
Unlike Bopp, I disagree with going for blitz/strike needle, the thing is really clumsy and your glass cannon chaos set will suffer greatly due to the fact that it roots you to the ground when firing. In another word, you can't dodge while firing the thing. Instead use alchemer or supernova, the normal damage version of polaris, a decent gun from what I heard. And it is normal damage, so nothing can go wrong form there plus it retains the knock back of polaris.
Electron vortex is a bad bomb for you, why? Coz the thing slows you down no matter the CTR(and not to mention that the bomb can only tickle your enemies, not enough elemental damage there I afraid), and it leaves you vulunerble to attacks. You are better off with stagger storm or shivermist, they have a short fure time, easy to use and does a brilliant job of crowd control.
As for BtB, don't use it, your acheron does almost the same damage when it comes up against the beasts, fiends can be dealt with blitz needle alone, but like I said, the gun is very clumsy. And clumsyness+chaos=death, so the moral of the story is, if you want to use chaos, be sure you can dodge, alot. So you may wanna give callahan or iron slug a try.
ps. you don't have to wear full chaos, instead, get the divine veil, the hat should help you cope with fire and shock statues (the 2 worst statues in the game) and along with it comes a fiend med bonus on all ur weapons, not bad eh? Definately recommended if you are going to use blitz needle.
Midnight-Dj I'm not a fan of cycling through weapons, especially with a chaos set it can get you in trouble from time to time, I feel with three I can use the forward switch or backward switch to use the weapon needed for the situation while using an opener weapon like a bomb or gun. I was thinking of using a supernova, but in reality what I use the gun for a polaris would suit the situations better while still dealing the same amount of damage to fiends as a supernova would. And I'm definitely against using a blitz needle or other auto type guns because I hate the root effect. Maybe I'll try out a callahan or iron slug with the set, never used them before...
The reason I chose Electron vortex isn't the damage, hell I'd probably use a graviton vortex if that was my only option. It's more or less to gather the enemies into a convenient little pile for my acheron to massacre them. Which I also feel would be beneficial to a btb's charge attack.
Midnight-Dj is right that Blitz Needle is dangerous. But it is also extremely powerful. So learning to use it is worth your time. Callahan is a lot of fun, but you will be disappointed with the damage. Perhaps you should wait for the impending gunner update, before making any big commitments to guns.
Midnight-Dj dismisses Blitz Needle against fiends, but then dismisses FF/BTB against fiends, because you should use Blitz Needle instead? That makes no sense. Kuroi-Karasu, if you have a lot of trouble with fiends, then try FF/BTB (very good, if you know the AI well enough to dodge it), Dark Briar Barrage (very effective, if you know the AI and how to bomb), or even Polaris (as a crowd-control weapon with slow damage).
Kuroi-Karasu, a Final Flourish charge will do a lot of damage against tightly clustered enemies. Do not mistakenly think that it hits just one enemy. I have taken out as many as five enemies at once with a single FF charge (three wolvers and two gremlin menders, all previously undamaged, without even using a vortex).
Bopp I've heard about the impending gunner update but I don't know what it's supposedly going to bring. Are they making new guns entirely or just fleshing out the existing lines? And I may learn how to use a blitz needle in the future...but I'm not very skilled at using the auto gun line atm because of the root I find myself taking attacks I would have otherwise avoided.
Also in your opinion which would do more damage to clustered enemies: a ff charge attack or a btb charge attack?
I might end up caving and using 4 weapons at once...and having 2 swords a bomb and a gun...it would certainly give me more versatility but like I said before I really don't like having to switch between 4 weapons, with three it's only a one way switch while using an opener, with 4 I feel like I'm floundering around trying to get the correct weapon out.
To learn more about the gunner update, go here (and follow the link). We don't exactly know the statistics of the new guns, but you should expect them mainly to fill in gaps. It's also possible that Three Rings will take this opportunity to balance out some of the guns.
If you release at very short range and land all of the strokes and projectiles, then the damage on FF and BTB charge attacks are similar, and enough to kill any regular monster (e.g. zombies). The BTB charge is a little safer than the FF charge, if you're releasing at a loose crowd --- for then BTB interrupts many monsters, while FF kills a couple of monsters and leaves you exposed to the others. But FF is easier to get UVs on.
Do not feel pressured to use four weapons at a time. I never use more than three weapons at a time, and I often use only two weapons. What Midnight-Dj was saying (if I understand correctly) is that you want to *own* more than three weapons, to equip in different situations.
But I guess considering that was 4 months ago and it still hasn't been released yet means that they're having problems with either balances in the new guns or technical problems with the models and mechanics. It would be nice if they did make a new gun that would fill in the gap on my weapon set perfectly...
Oh and I don't only have those weapons, it's just I mainly only use one weapon set for extended periods of time and like it to cover my bases, sometimes I'll pull out a dvs for fun (though it does get me in trouble a lot) or a combuster, I also have a silversix I'm planning on making into an argent peacemaker but I'm not exactly fond of the gun...not really much of a bomb guy other than the vortex line though so I don't have any others in the works. Been planning on making a da but I really don't like how slow the weapon is even with asi uv's.
You have elemental and shadow damage, so piercing makes sense (on the most superficial level). Final Flourish and Barbarous Thorn Blade are equally good. Blitz Needle is another obvious option.
Actually, you have many viable options. Maybe you could narrow them down a bit for us, by telling us what kind of weapon you want for your third weapon --- sword, gun, or bomb. Basically, this decides your "character class", which is the main personal choice that you make in this game.
