I just started playing recently and my 0* and 1* stuff isn't really that strong against the things i'm facing, I've saved up all my Cr, whats a good sword to get?
Whats a good cheap sword for all around use for someone rank 3-2
I used the "Cutter" as my 2* star sword, and after I moved on to better gear I still miss the speed and playstyle it brought on. But yeah, it's mostly personal preference.
Hey there. I would recommend you keep your Calibur and start upgrading that; it's a great sword to have early on and its normal damage means that you won't have to be stressed to buy extra weapon slots in order to have proper damage in some areas.
As you start to learn your way around a little more, you can expand your arsenal beyond that.
If you want to start building up your gear now, I'd recommend you fight Snarbolax a few times and talk to Brinks in the Haven Bazaar to get yourself a Snarble Barb, which is basically a free Flourish (except better!). You should get a free Brandish soon, which you can upgrade to any of the three elemental lines (preferably the fire line), or you can try upgrading it to the shadow line for the next area that you'll have to face.
If you want a good, cheap sword to hold you up, Calibur is the one for you, and you already have one to begin with.
Though the Calibur is rather good at the start, eventually you'll notice an enormous gap in the damage dealt between it and a specialist weapon, like a Snarble Barb on Fiends. It's best to start getting one Elemental, one Piercing, and one Shadow weapon (not always a sword, your choice of weaponry) by the time you fight the Jelly King, but until then, keep the Calibur.
I have to agree with those above me. If you are only asking for one good sword, Calibur is your go-to. I personally used Brandish because I wanted a Fireburst Brandish, which I would definitely recommend if you could get another sword. However, I see you only want one sword. Perhaps you were working on a gun or bomb? A piercing or shadow sword would kill the monsters that an elemental gun takes more time to kill. In this case, Snarble Barb would be more useful than Calibur when used with say, Voltech Alchemer.
However, a Snarble Barb's combo carrier you forward quite a bit, which is bad for a gunner who hasn't played around with that for hours.
I thought you had already got your 5* due to your avatar. Anyways, I'm pretty much doing boss runs over and over again, to get tokens, and get free weapons. I originally started with a Spur, then realized it was actually pretty crap, and Dibsville suggested for me to get something else. So, I went and did a few Jelly Runs and got my Faust, which I sold accidentally, and then I bought a Snarble Barb, which I think is good for you, cause now I have a variety of swords to pick from. I also made a nightblade for the lolz as I walked around slashing things.
So yeah, Dem boss awards are probably the best thing you could go for, but if you think thats too hard, probably upgrade your Calbur or Brandish, cause Brandish has a path of 6 results, Whereas Calibur lines only go to 2.
Or you could just keep an eye on AH, and buy whatever things are cheap, and are suitable for you, or you could pull a Sasuke, and buy everything. XD
I can recommend two swords for a wide range of monsters:
1.) Calibur
Calibur is a good sword for all monster types because it deals Normal damage and can hit an enemy up to three times with one charged attack. Normal damage deals to all monsters the same damage (only few exceptions that you dont need to care about right now) while one of the three special damage types (Elemental, Piercing, Shadow) deal to 2 monster families high damage, to 2 monster families normal damage and to 2 monster families weak damage.
2.) Elemental Brandish-series
I don't know your playing style, but you can fight with status, too:
There are three swords with a good damage output and additionally the chance to deal a certain status: the Brandish-Swords with the status fire, frost and shock.
While you charge up with a Brandish (2 stars) you create 3 explosions in front of you. Any of the three 3+* versions of elemental brandishes will get an additional status effect. The 4 star variants will get a 4th explosion and the 5* variants gets a 5th explosion (which can literally laz0r an enemy away from you)
3.) Some things you should keep in mind:
-What is your playing style and what attack pattern fits best to you? Ask any player in Haven to show you all attack pattern of swords. It might help you to know what exists: Do you want a slow but powerful 2 hit basic attack? Or should it be the regular 3 hit basic? Or should it deliver 8 fast but weaker hits?
-What charge attack (special attack) should your sword beeing able to do? You probably already know the 3 explosions from swords like Proto sword or hot edge. But there are also special attacks like that 360° swing of a calibur that can hit up to three times or an immense overhead smash that can hit an enemy twice but leaves you immobile for a blink of time (Troika). Other charge attacks are: Shooting a disc (spur), starting a fast cutting in one direction while beeing immobile (Cutter), two overhead smashes, that moves you in one direction (Warhammer), Shooting spikes (Snarble Barb), shooting one single bullet, that flies further than gun bullets (Wrench wand; 1* and not upgradeable), or a forward-moving stabbing attack (flourish).
-Should your new sword has any status effect while attacking? Keep in mind that not each status is available with each attack pattern. So if you value a status like poision over an appreciated attack pattern of 2 hits, you can not choose troika, unfortunally. If you would like to burn enemies with a sword and kill them over time or simply adding additional damage over time, you have to choose Fire Brandish or Warhammer (there is one certain other sword that deals fire damage but you shouldn't use it right now because it can set you on fire, too).
-Do you have one certain monster family that you hate over all others? Monster family weakness can be seen via F1 ingame, but here as comprehension the weaknesses and the resistances of all currently existing families:
Slimes: Weak to shadow, strong to piercing, normal to elemental
Constructs: Weak to elemental, strong to piercing, neutral to shadow
Gremlins: Weak to shadow, strong to elemental, neutral to piercing
Beasts: Weak to piercing, strong to elemental, neutral to shadow
Undeads: Weak to elemental, strong to shadow, neutral to piercing
Fiends: Weak to piercing, strong to shadow, neutral to elemental
4.) Probably Bopp will come around here soon and link his sword guide and give links of how to search for similar topics.
A tip on boss recipes. While their standard counterparts (e.g., a Flourish is one against a Snarble Barb) can be found in the mission 'Hall of Heroes', the boss runs are much more difficult to get, i.e., they require luck and patience by traveling to a Clockwork Terminal and buying the recipe from Basil.
For your current task, get a sword called a Flourish. If you are a gunner or bomber, bring a Shadowtech Alchemer or a Freezing/Fiery Vaporizer. The next item should be that Hot Edge from the mission, a Prismatech/Voltech Alchemer, or a Crystal Bomb/Blast Bomb.
Thanks for all the feedback, as Assasinator-Sasuke mentioned earlier about the 5* avatar, this is actually my friends account that I am using to post, I am having troubles signing up for my own right now. Again, thanks for all the feedback, I am going to be getting a Flourish as many of you have said to get. As Legenddestroyer said earlier, "However, I see you only want one sword. Perhaps you were working on a gun or bomb?", I actually am building up the spur line, I have seen that it only goes to the 4* rank, but i still like it a lot, thank you all for the help
Posted this in the wrong place; I might recommend moving your thread to 'New Recruits' or 'The Arsenal' (click Edit, then select the forum you want on the dropdown menu).
That being said, my personal favorite is Brandish (2*) line for elemental/shadow.
