A lot of threads I see are complaining that OOO is making way to much buyable content instead of working on the gunner update. However, what if it is the other way around? Maybe they are making these promos to distract us from the anticipation and stalling so the devs can have time they need to finish the update before a bunch of players quit. I am the only one who has considered this? ~Z
Promos vs. Gunner Update
"Forummers always look at all possibilities"
Yes, and clearly you can see Eurydice is trying to figure out how to bomb the Freedom Tower, hence the Gunner Update delays.
Let me ask you this:
If OOO is capable of producing a promotion-- that is, they have the thing done because the artists found time for it while the rest of the team caught up-- is there any reason for them NOT to release it?
Let me ask you this:
If OOO art team is capable of doing 10 promos before anyone else can make content. Then why don't you hire someone to work on those feature and fire one from the art team?
A question can be asked both ways. (granted some times it doesn't make sense)
Edit: Also I wouldn't complain if I could pay 6$ PER MONTHto up my stuff like back in the days.... I am already pretty enough. I have a lot of stuff hanging around to make other pretty stuff when new stuff comes on... but I still can't heat my obsidian weapons and get a gunner from the gunner update with 6$. I need to put 30-40$ for a single piece of gear.
It isn't that simple.
Aside from the bit where they are several members down on the programmer/game dev side of things, it would cost them more to fire an artist+hire a programmer due to the nature of how they make their money-- via promos. Firing an artist would thus cost them a lot of cash-- cash that could be used to hire a new programmer for the development team.
So yes, they should hire a new software engineer, but they should take their time with this. The new programmer doesn't just up and start working, they've got to look through miles of code and study how things work and get integrated into the group. OOO is in all likelihood looking for someone that will care enough to actually join the group and be productive and love the game, so as to not sacrifice the integrity of the game and precious development time.
EDIT:
A heat pass type thing would be nice in the short run, but would take away from the recent decision to make the game not appear as greedy as possible, pay to win or otherwise junky in that regard.
It is a given that Three Rings is recommending us consume their products for the meantime. Overall, it does happen so for Three Rings to acknowledge their prime chamber of collecting funds between their main overdue implementation.
I'm going to pass on my usual preaching about team split and instead:
...Why do you guys care so much about the gunner update? It'll probably just give you more 5* items that you can't heat anyway.
Arcade update + boss update (which are probably being worked on either instead or at the same time) are way more important :|
If OOO art team is capable of doing 10 promos before anyone else can make content. Then why don't you hire someone to work on those feature and fire one from the art team?
Oh right, firing how many people from the art team?
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Credits#Art
Throwing more programmers onto the same feature gets those features done faster?
...nah, doesn't always work like that.
For content rushes, like if there's a list of new art/stages that need to be done, yeah, putting more people on those can make that go by quicker. Putting two programmers on the same issue... not so much. There's something to be said about pair programming, but when the process is about make-try-test-integrate, putting more people on it doesn't usually make it go by any faster.
I still believe a little switcharoo of the fire crystal recipe could be worth it and simple enough to quickly appeal to the mass.
Make Radiant out of Shinning instead of making Shinning out of Radiant...
I suggested it so many times and it is SOOOO simple and makes SOOOOOO much sense in the current drop rate. Have energy to make them and a bit of cr with some minerals and BAM you got a whole brand new game with decent F2P potential. P2P can still wait a bit.
Edit: My last post was obviously a rant but I think you get my point (at least Fehzor did)
@Seiran-Hmm, I never thought about how they could be working on the Arcade Update AND the Gunner Update. That could explain the dozen promos they've had. ~Z
well, just because you don't seem to be familiar with my usual viewpoint (and cause I'm bored atm):
From my viewpoint, the main factors around feature updates are programmers/designers and the main factors around promos are artists. It bothers me when people think that promos take time away from the features, cause they don't. They use different muscles. Promos tend to be scheduled way ahead of time anyway, so the art could have been done weeks to months ago for all we know.
Does having an idea of the work split excuse the SK team's seeming months-long of silence? Nah. But it can contextualize it so you don't whine about unrelated things (ex: your guild master starts an FSC run with one of your friends, then your friend joins you in Haven to chat - does that mean that your guild master has stopped running FSC? No.)
As a player, I want new stuff - content that I can tell my friends, "hey, SK's added something completely different so let's all play it again". New items aren't gonna bring them back for any longer than a day. Heck, when pets came back, they were active for like, a week. New arcade/boss might do something though.

@Fire crystal crafting:
Adding the ability to craft upwards would be nice (but I disagree with replacing the ability to craft them downwards).
If anything, more importantly than the drop rate, I think the requirements to heat items should go down. Once you hit that point where 700CE or 10 hours of an average player grinding doesn't even amount to an entire item (out of an entire 5* set) level's requirement, it just seems like artificial slowdown. It's now at the point where you'd need to spend $20 to get a fully-heated level 10 item, and that's not good value.
I was going to break my years-long state as a F2P player and buy OCH or something as thanks for the good times, then buy some energy to make some of the shard bombs that I've been wanting to play around with, but that pricing is terrible value and a [< /69] move.
"I am the only one who has considered this?"
I would make a small rant about how many people have considered this, but I'm feeling kinda lazy.
No, you're not the only one.
But I wouldn't doubt that you're pretty early to the party either...
