I'm too lazy to search every single map (that constantly changes) in Clockworks to find the orbs I need to craft the weapons I need. I know it's fun to search the Arcades and chill with friends while exploring (and making new ones :3) but I usually get pissed that I can't find orbs in one entire run from 0-29 (like how pissed I get at Flappy Bird.)
So does anyone reading this know of a mission/arcade/level/map where orbs 2-5 can be found?

PS: I know I'm not the only one who needs to know this O___o

As far as I know, every level you go through gives you a chance to find rarities such as orbs, sparks, or fire crystals. 2* orbs can be found in Stratum 2, 3* can be found in the following strata and so on. There are some missions that may give you a higher probability of finding more orbs, FSC for example, is nice when it comes to farming Eternal Orbs. I've personally found Danger Missions to be very profiting, on one occasion I found 3 Eternal Orbs doing Ghosts in the Machine, Tier 3 on Elite. Again it varies, but usually Boss levels tend to give you a higher chance of finding more rarities. As for Rank Missions, I'm not completely sure, someone else may know though.

Treasure boxes. What star level the orb will have depends on the stratum you are. Usually it goes like this:
>Stratum 1 will drop 1* orbs
>Strat. 2 will drop 2* orbs
>Strat. 3 will drop 3* orbs
>Strat. 4 will drop 4* orbs
>Strata 5 and 6 will only drop 5* orbs.
The problem is that they get really hard to find them as the star level increases (thanks, FSC). So I suggest doing danger missions and do runs where there are more boxes, such as arenas and treasure rooms.
Ultimately, you can just buy the orbs at the supply depot if you have enough crowns to buy the energy for it.

The other thing is that not all treasure boxes are made equal. Red boxes generally give better rewards / higher chance of rarities (both fire crystals and orbs), but not all green boxes are equal too.

Generally speaking, boxes that are found after a big arena / boss fight / area with large monster spawn (not necessarily required fight) gives better rewards than boxes that are easily accessible.

Now, while the above posts are accurate, take it with a grain of salt. Some have found 3* Orbs as early as Stratum 2, and even 5* Orbs in Stratum 3. The drop rates seem high enough to not be impossible to find, but not too common so they retain their namesake; a rarity.

The only 100% sure fire way to get Orbs, is, of course, by buying them. But nobody wants to do that anymore, right?

Difficulty is affecting the rate how often a box drops a rarity. It is a huge difference if you run from 1-29 with beginner's or elite's difficulty.

If your problem is the overall 'in what depth do I find orb x?' then Megawatt-King answered your question already.
