I think we would get a lot more frequent updates, though we may run the risk of having Spiral Co. Supply Crates being added to the game
Random thought: what if valve bought SK?
though we may run the risk of having Spiral Co. Supply Crates being added to the game We already have prize boxes at 10$ a piece... it can't be that bad....
User created content? yes!! with a pinch of MvM please
better yet, SK models in SFM (won't ever happen cuz SK models are 2D and not 3D, but it would still be awesome)
@buzzshadow
Uhm.....sk models are, in fact, 3 dimensional. Ever heard of the modelviewer spiral spy? because if not, then go get it.
It won't happen, but that would be the greatest thing that ever happened to this game..I can only dream of the balancing/updates they would give us..
We already have prize boxes, the supply crates wouldn't be bad.
"though we may run the risk of having Spiral Co. Supply Crates being added to the game"
Yeah, we have those already, they're called Lockboxes. Exactly the same mechanics... Random, rare drop, you have to buy a key to open them.
As for the idea, I think if it would be good or bad would be determined by if they buy OOO along with SK, or just buy SK from OOO/SEGA. If they just take SK, they might not know where it's going and take it somewhere weird. If they buy OOO's dev team and give them some of Valve's unlimited money as well as a bit of staff and moderation help, it would probably turn out very well.
This would be the best thing that could ever happen for Spiral Knights. Even better than the Core opening!
We would get more frequent updates, definitely.
Who knows, maybe we would have the Tortodrone back, the Slooms or the Vog Cub...
And more different levels too
Patch Notes v1.314:
* Added more hats
* Fixed clipping issue with hats we introduced last patch
* Adjusted drop rate of crat- I mean Iron Lockboxes
* Increased price of Silver Keys
* Weapon "balance" tweaks that make underpowered weapons even more underpowered and overpowered weapons even more overpowered
* Striker Booster disabled due to a bug
* Drop rate for rare hats lowered
Less paywalls, more hats.
All for it!
For all the folks that are making fun of the idea of the getting the SK equivalent of Mann Co. Crates, you really need to watch the Steam Dev Days video of them talking about it.
They realized the flaws in the original implementation, changed things around to better benefit the players, and now the Crates 'n Keys are ridiculously profitable.
Like, absolutely scary levels of profitable.
We may have the Silver Lockboxes, but they are nowhere near the level of profit that Valve has achieved with the Crates. OOO should watch that video and learn a thing or two about it all.
But I think it would be better if OOO just learned a thing or two from Valve instead of Valve buying OOO outright.
What I'm trying to say is that it's nice to actually have a company thinking of the players with their monetization methods, but it would be better to have multiple companies with that mindset instead of just the one.
I love stuff like that, the consumer science behind video game creation. I read a similar article where a Valve employee was talking about how they choose the crate opening and weapons drop animations. Everything was specific, the timing, the lighting, the color choice, to create a maximum amount of anticipation and that buzzed feeling in the brain's pleasure center. It was eerily similar of the way Vegas does things like filter the air in casinos and block daylight to interfere with people's natural clocks and keep them gambling.
While I find it highly unlikely that Valve would be interested in SK, I would definitely be in favor of it. Valve has proven very smart in that way that they've used microtransactions and digital distribution to make a profit without offending consumers. And I love the way they've embraced user-created content and managed their community.
They should just buy lockdown and sell it as it's own game. It'd go really far.
Valve buying OOO would probably the greatest thing to ever happen to this game...
Too bad it will never happen, oh well, at least we will get a major update within the next 10 years.
