Hey, I haven't played this game in nearly a year, so can you guys catch me up on the latest patches and notes? Where did mist energy go? What happened to the format? Reviving? What are sprites? How do you do the dash and shield bash (using mouse controls)? Anything else I should know? Events? Are there still a lot of people on? If there are, more than the past, or less? Thank you.

Little pets that help your knight in your journey that 95% of players forget even exist other than to be an extra trinket slot.
"How do you do the dash and shield bash (using mouse controls)?"
Dash is Left Shift + X, bash is Left Shift + Z.
"Events?"
One of the only new events was the Shroud of Apocrea, which yielded the Obsidian Edge, Obsidian Carbine, and Obsidian Crusher. There was also a really badly made Winterfest event that yielded reskins. You can find the new items in the Mysterious Alchemy Machine in the Haven Arcade, but you won't be able to get the materials to make them right now.

Asking anyone and anyone answering the question "is the game active" is inpossible to answer, as people just go off when they're online, their friends list and guild.
