Keep Hope Alive...How?

I am short on time so I will be brief.

Keeping yourself alive can be easy if you just use your head and maybe decent gear. Keeping yourself alive in the midst of your team causing a ruckus can be a bit irksome. However, have you ever tried to keep someone else alive who may lack either the experience or overall ability to stay alive themselves?

On occasion I have played the under-equipped miner in dangerous territory only to test the knowing knight's ability to protect someone else at their expense. Sometimes the execution is ugly even in light of successful results (in short, they may die at least once). But when trying to guide someone else who may not be prepared for the danger, my results are rarely satisfactory.

Truth be told, I have a habit of keeping less than sufficient gear for any run on hand as a part of the challenge. Some of that is due to preference. Some of that is related to what I can afford when compared against my in-game priorities. Either way, while I try to be the best possible example of what to do and what not to do (e.g. I mimic my party member's gear in-utility to give a better idea of how to fight with it), and in knowing that some of the responsibility of their survival depends upon them, I am almost considering giving into the use of more favorable weapons among knights merely for the greater damage output; that seems to equate to faster results.

So I will close with this. Keeping myself alive is never difficult if I keep my attention to what dangers approach me. Keeping alive among other capable fighters who may or may not know how to play well together is enjoyable in its own right. Yet, when providing guidance, tanking shots destined for the unknowing, displacing, and even slaying enemies, how else should I keep someone alive in dangerous situations that is not prepared for it without any sort of revival or death occurring?

a fun meta-game

This is a great topic for a thread. Defending weaker players is a fun game in itself.

Shield-bump the monsters away from your weak teammate. Shield your weak teammate while he shoots at the monsters from within your shield. Also shield-bash monsters away from him.

Bomb non-disruptively around your weak teammate, to interrupt all nearby monsters. Dark Briar Barrage is good for this, unless it causes your teammate lag. Nitronome is good, if your teammate doesn't mind the total chaos.

Out-DPS your weak teammate, to draw the monsters toward you. Ash of Agni is good for this. Then he follows along taking pot-shots at them from behind.

Damage a trojan until it is near death. Then draw its attention while your weak teammate gets a chance to kill it safely from behind.

Nice tips, Bopp. I think I'll try some later.

This.

This was very important during grinchlin assault for even endgamers. Team dynamics either meshed and everyone did their part, or it wasn't fun.
My friends had excellent dynamics. We had the aggroer, the DPS, the debuffer, and the support shielder.

The one that Bopp seemed to miss is the debuffer. Stun, Freeze, and Poison work wonders for protecting allies.

I love powerful weapons without any knockback at this point so I helped without disrupting their gameplay. Ironically, blitz needle works wonderfully for this, I always kill greavers surrounding those aggresive players. Second I pick alchemer lines. Though to be honest, I rather go on my own on big places, for the sole reason I could play silly, but not silly enough to kill myself (without newbies giving me more trouble than I brought myself).

Hmmm....

In Grinchlin, four people with brandishes, Chaos and at least one DR seemed to work pretty well for my guild. :P

Keeping Hope (And Others) Alive

I think of your ideas as really smart, and fun. It can really pay off helping out those weak. It strengthens not only your skills and character, but your personality and well being. I have done this in the past when I do danger missions and the likes with those of a lower status. I am a player who usually works with heavier weapons like Purphoros's Hammer (To those who get the reference), and the Troika Lines, which give knockback. This can be really good in defending others, but timing is key. I also use a gun for long range when I'm not close enough to help out.

I have found the iron slug useful to phase menders, rocket pups, howlers, and polies on many occasion where only one shot is needed, allowing both safe passage for players wanting to slay individual turrets and keeping the menders from healing. And on Dividedfish's note, I have come to favor heavy weapons so much to the point where I can almost draw the attention of and tackle greavers and gorgo alone between my Triglav and Iron Slug.

And on a related note that encouraged team cooperation, even surviving the Harvester required a two-man team or an unwitting teammate who panicked at the first sign of the harvester's pursuit. Taking my silversix was the best thing that I could have ever done there, regardless of how much damage it did or did not do.

I was playing with a lower

I was playing with a lower level friend and came to take a liking at a really energetic new player that he had in his party (seriously, it reminded me of the excitement I had when I was new lol). We came to a danger room and I had to either take out or weaken the ones chasing her. In my case, it went down to using guns and bombs. In this case, I used more support-line weapons:

- All alchemers are good for support damage since they don't interfere with your teammates' knockback (if you're helping them kill something). Debilitation alchemers like Hail/Storm driver can slow down chasing enemies.
- Same deal with Voltaic Tempest (that bomb is surprisingly good at killing large mobs if you can draw them together).
- If you have a blast bomb, you can drop one by a teammate you're trying to protect. Sure it might push enemies out of their attack range, but if they're surrounded, it's better for them to miss than for your teammate to take damage.
- If you can't status/knockback any other way, shieldbash causes a handy little stun if you have no other status move available.

---
@Arelic:
Slug is great for the interruption since it works on any type of enemies.
Troika line is great for defensive knockback (and the charge can double as the "blast bomb"-style protection).

How can we keep hope alive if there is a knife lodged in her throat?

EDIT: Woah. That sounded a bit more morbid than I intended.

with friends like these...

when helping out your friend, less skilled players or beginners, it's probably best to:

1. cover them with nitronome or big angry bomb, as mentioned earlier (to clear the enemies away from your friend of course)

2. use that polaris as much as you can (to herd the enemies into a group in the corner of course)

3. you gotta shieldbash, as mentioned earler, especially if you encounter a mob of fiends (what better way to slow them down than to stun them)

4. use that leviathan blade and stay close to the weaker player (gotta use that charged attack to keep your friend safe)

..probably a lot more you can do to be a real friend, but i'll just leave it to you heroes to help them on their way.

>:D
