I've had another idea revolving around limiting gear, but that's too hard! :(

I have a better idea...why not limit each team to having exactly two strikers, two recons, and two guardians? (Am I missing a member?) Keep in mind that I'm talking about real LD here, not one of those cheesy (IMO) fight to the finish things.

Would this sound reasonable?

In theory, yes. Otherwise, no.

2 strikers would make for an awfully slow game.
There's a reason people in GvG have come to a certain way of making teams.
4 strikers and 2 guards/recons makes the most efficient team.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

@Feyi-Feyi

But the problem with that many Strikers is that then they can simply carry the team. "A slow game" could just mean that you don't have a bash fest, by any chance?

Although it's technically impossible, because you can change your gear while your dead (and you can't see other's max HP), I would say no to strikers using HP trinkets, but alas, that can't be.

I want each team to BE a team, and to have to rely on the other members of the team. Rather than strikers boosting on the points alone and being mostly safe, I want them to be risking something by doing that. I want this to be skill, and according to most, being a striker isn't that hard. (It's hard for me, but...)

@Autofire:
The tournaments are weird 1v1 setups for kills. Are you talking more about an actual team GvG setup?
Encouraging multiple classes is a cute idea, but that needs to grow outside of just this context.

By "a certain way of making teams", as Feyi puts it, you'll tend to have 5-6 strikers, maybe with one bomber as recon/guard.

In current GvG Lockdown, people just go with whatever classes they're good at/fit with their gear, and well, most people learn to be sword/gun Striker.
Next most common thing to that would be fully geared bombers as Guardian.

There aren't as many skilled Guardians/Recons nowadays, so you'll have way less people who'd dare to play those classes in a GvG or other serious setting vs aggressive strikers.

I'm all for forcing a better game in competitions but in GLD, it would probably be a bit too hard to enforce unless they're super simple rules or everyone has to record, although the latter would not happen.

You could just have like a double blind pick for both teams, once two people are locked in to a class in the locker room then no more can join that class... but then you'd have people leaving cause they don't get their favorite class and can't diversify. It would also cause the developers to put some more attention to detail toward LD as a whole, which based on past updates has been proven to be low on the priority list.... I think. Behind the scene changes maybe? Who knows! I'm all about variety though so +1 to OP.

@Krakob

I would probably require that one person on each team has to record, not just to keep an eye on classes, but also to prove the legitimacy of the match.

It really depends on what you do but yeah, that could work in some cases. One person per team is not bad, though.
