steam really isn't a reliable "track how many hours you played" source.

You still can appear offline to the steam community. The total hours does not increase in offline status. So the people that "hate" the game probably set their status to offline to avoid the text "currently in game spiral knights" appearing as their status.

Thoughts on this?

I do that too, but I think it's evened out by the times Steam thinks I'm in SK overnight since Java didn't close properly

yeah, steam thinks I'm on WAY more then I ever am, but never really cared. You would think they might work to make it work better to sense when things are actually being played or not but it's been like that for as long as I can remember.

Offline mode is all I ever

Offline mode is all I ever use when playing Spiral Knights so I don't have to be bothered by friends and the time always increases.

Steam has been an inaccurate measure of Spiral Knights gametime ever since the fact that Steam counts the hours you spend at the login screen, but not the hours you've spent on the standalone client.

If you like tracking how many hours you played

You can always use www.xfire.com and/or www.raptr.com. I like to use both :)

Ummmm

Isn't your hours played shown in spiral knights already though.....
After you login and you get to the knight selection screen, the play time is under the knight.

yeah but

you can't really tell if steam players really are consistent with the game or not cuz of the offline mode. So you can't really say steam players hate the game. I was inspired by threads that say steam players hate the game :P

I used to idle for TF2 items

I used to idle for TF2 items (not anymore, my laptop can't run it anymore) and I still somehow have over 200 hours in TF2, despite always doing it offline. Steam's just a bit laggy about updating the time sometimes.

Additionally, one more reason why Steam would be inaccurate: accounts that weren't made on Steam being linked to Steam. My playtime is still over a hundred hours difference despite occasionally INTENTIONALLY idling on the login screen, lol.
