Gunslinger or Bomber?

Hello!

Now, I've always loved the idea of bombs and guns (I think swords are overrated) and now I love LD! The problem is, I can't choose which I should use? I would use both but having two or more of a single type of idea is very effective instead of two different items (unless you're a swordsman). I don't want simple answers. I want opinions along with reasons. Is one superior to the other? What class goes well with it? Is one able to go faster (I like speed)? etc.

Thanks,
Pug

P.S. If you don't mind, I'm gonna have a hard time choosing a sprite so, you could make an argument or whatever about either or both. Also, I'm T2 but you could use T2 items that branch off to T3 but I sorta progress slowly.

Hm...

Well, speaking as a T2 player with every branch of guns (except Pulsar) and every haze+blast+twisted bomb, I would suggest either using Twisted Snarble Cone or Blast Bomb in conjunction with a haze bomb of whatever status you prefer. I like to use fire, since most people run into it blindly, and then knockback with a blast bomb; however, other status bombs like freeze and shock work well too--better than what I use. Poison is underrated but effective, yet with only bombs/guns it will not help as much (works well with a Toothpick). As an added bonus, poison helps in levels such as Downtown, Mines, and Stadium with health pad crowding, and it works well with teammates taking little damage (and yourself) and the enemy taking slightly more damage. Stun is also effective and promotes team play, as teammates can finish off the easy kill.
Recon works well since you get Bomb CTR VH as the class perk, and guard will work since one can heal, block bullets, and it grants a CTR low. That decision is all about whether you prefer more protection and healing versus faster bomb charges and invisibility, etc.

For gunning it is really a matter of opinion. I like the Magnus line and Catalyzer line, but Alchemers typically work much better. Freeze works for freeze charge sniping, shock because shock is just OP (real reason there), and fire works well with shock for lots of status damage. Of course, Prisma and Shadow work for more DPS, since guns are quite weak in T2 (with no damage bonus). Blasters work well for picking off targets and are fast, but lack power. Gunslinger Sash is a definite choice, but the helm could either be Cyclops for damage med (and minus 3 health), Seerus for CTR Med, ASI low, and large shock+fire resistance, but weak poison and freeze, and Gunslinger Hat for ASI low as well. With no health trinkets, double Gunslinger will not protect you from dying in 4 hits instead of 3 from a Dusker (and you're striker), not completely sure on recon. Pulsars work well for area denial, and Kilowatt has a good chance of shock with expanded shots, but be prepared to be called a spammer for using that. Needles are good for trolling, or shooting down bombers/brandish chargers.
For classes, really just a matter of opinion. I prefer recon as it grants ASI Med for guns, and striker gives none. Guard gunning has Negative ASI low, but is overlooked and can work well if you get lucky with statuses or have high damage bonuses, but that is better in T3 (see: The-Gun-Show).

Combining a bomb with a gun would also work well, most likely as a recon with Gunning armor for CTR Max bombs if heated, and Gun ASI VH. What I like to use is a freeze/stun bomb with a Magnus, but I tend to use underused weapons. Haze bombs would work well for area denial, and the gun for shooting enemies outside the bombs' radii.

Note: None of this is specifically geared for T3 usage/advancement, and is all from personal experience. Just sharing the random knowledge I have accumulated over the years.

they're... different?

Bombs and guns hold different roles in Lockdown.

Bombs are generally used for area denial:
- Blast/shard/vortex bombs are primarily placed where people want to walk (ex: on/near the capture points themselves).
- Haze bombs can be used the same way, but additionally due to their length/radius, can be used to discourage people from entering corridors or to push them to walk in certain paths.

Recon gives bombs a total bonus of VH CTR (so any level 10 bomb will be pushed to max). Many bombers end up going with Guardian though, since shield can let them take a few shots and support teammates a little further than just their bombs, and more importantly since Guardian takes no effect from knockback (can't interfere with a guardian's bomb placement).

Guns are the big situational choice:
- Status alchemers: freeze for situations when you're outnumbered by enemies, shock for situations when you outnumber your enemies (shock removes invincibility frames, making quick successive attacks viable), fire for defensive peeking.
- Prisma/Shadowtech driver lines deal more damage than status alchemers, but you need to pick them depending on what defense your enemy is less likely to have.
- Blaster line is the all-around option. Great range, bullet speed, magazine size. Decent for 1v1s, doesn't shine when you're outnumbered.
- Magnus line is more of a kiting/sniping option. Not meant to be fired often, but can feel rewarding if you land your hits.
- Pulsar line acts as a decent wall option. Most people aren't very good at dodging it.
- Catalyzer line (well, toxic line) is more of a hipster poison option; slow bullets can be used in clever ways as traps, and if it hits, can deal shadow/poison.
- Silversix line is more of a kiting option - very quick bullets mean less time before you can shield/boost out of the way. Great for shooting bombers.

Many people prefer to use Striker for guns since it gives them great control of their distance with boost - it's a pretty straightforward thing.

A smaller (but growing ..?) number of people use Recon for its natural bonuses to guns and its other effects:
- Cloak means you get first hit, which can be extremely valuable if you open with a status gun
- Deathmark (two recon warnings within 3 seconds) removes all physical defense, making guns hurt more and getting rid of the issue of having limited damage types.
___

Recon can let you use both types of weapons fairly well - though it encourages more of the support hazes than offensive bombs. You can alternate between dropping max level haze bombs and shooting 1-2 shots as a form of area denial.
