I'm sorry I have to disagree The Blitz needle is not like a shotgun, more of a Machine gun. I would say that the Alchemizers are the closest to shotguns. They fire of 2-3 bullets uncharged and 1 bullet charged which ricochets.
Hope this helped, Sandwich-Potato is correct though about the damage dealt to a Trojan. 1 charge shot of the Blitz Needle/Plague Needle and the Trojans are toast!

Blitz Needle.
You want a Shotgun? Try the Callahan. 2-shots, roots you in place, high damage in one shot but terrible DPS overall. Yep, basically a Shotgun.

Pepperboxes
As said, the Needles and Pepperboxes (Autoguns) are more of machine guns, but they do have spread fire so they come a bit close. The Pepperbox family a bit more so due to having a lot more knockback and less range.
Alchemers can bounce off of things multiple times, but they only fire a single shot. So whether or not this can be considered a shotgun is debatable.
The Magnus family looks like a shotgun (or magnum), has the range of a shotgun, about the speed of a shotgun, the ammo of a shotgun (2 shots), and about the damage you would expect a shotgun to do. But it goes completely straight and is almost instant. It does have splash damage to near by enemies, so this is about as close as you can get.
If you want a spread fire type of gun in Spiral Knights, the club is this way. The gunner update is down the street. It's not open yet but it will be when it's ready.

shotgun eh?
i would say the alchemers in their higher levels are kind of like shotguns with their splitting charged bursts, and their normal richoteing shots.

The Blitz Needle is our shotgun; it's inaccurate-ish from far away, it devastates everything close up, and each charge burst can send a Trojan flying out the window.
