"UPDATED again"
took them 3 years to return..
now lets see how can we beat them.

post here if you want to help create a plan and give suggestions to how can we fight the Ancient guardians ^^ give out your findings and suggestions so we can weaste as least sparks possible xD

They -

Resistant to every dmg type but normal a bit (i find it to be around 10%)
Imune to MINOR status effects..
Take reduced dmg when attacked from the back
they can be stuned by the shield bash
they easyly breake FREZE, STUN lasts realy realy short and SHOCK does nothing. FIRE is great, and its not known if its possible to curse him.

They fight -

By smashing you in the face
jk
Charge attack that deals pure normal dmg, and it can stun you
Ground slam witch has masive AOE and deals normal dmg.
they can also hurt healers, other fiends, eachother when they ground smash, they can also activate explosives.

their alternative attack is launching crystal chunks at you that
Do percing dmg and stun you once they land (this is where movment speed saved my life plenty of times), and do elemental and shock dmg once you walk on them

My findings -

Haze bombs wont work
Blitz is a hard pcik as you wont have time to charge easyly or move around so you accept that you WILL die if you use it
Having at least medium movment speed is amazing to doge the crystal chunks
it is possible to TANK tortodrones with ancient plate armor as it has mazive normal deffense, if you stay close to tortodrones they wont launch their cristal shards but bash you and charge you insted. this way armor is perfect as those attacks are normal and sun aline, you wont take much dmg. shield i recomand is omega / ancient plate / new grand tortose if you want to play bate (im doing this and its suprisingly efective)

My suggestions (im still reserching)
armors like Iron might and Ancient plate are decent picks. extra dmg or hp trinkets are good dependin on your role.
stack on some stun or shock resist, arena has EVERY type of dmg/ normal from tortose charges. percing from their shards, elemental from shards that you walk across and shadow from fiends. for this you can make almost any set to cover dmg and deffense depending on what you have most trouble with.

its possible to solo the big guy, i done it using only 1 spark.
i used -
chaos cloack/perfect mask of serus
ancient plate shield (ironmight is also a good pick)
Valiance/Magma Driver/Calahane/Barbarous Thorn Blade

Tips -
attack and kill all fiends exept for healer (he cant folow up with tortoses speed and will die soon anyway from their attacks)
keep your distance, valaiance and calahane are good to fight normaly, and seting on fire is also a good idea.
if you see them chargeing and shoting their minerals move away and focuse on avoiding their attacks until they calm down. pokeing them with few shots here and there is good way to go, its not profesional but its good enough to help you win. if you are every far away from them both make a moment and charge your magma d. focuse on them 1 at a time and avoid activating explosives. you should be good to go if you have some experience with them

brandish type of weapons and alchimers are good weapons to use in the fight. all normal speed weapons are good. i dont recomand DA and such slow weapons unless you have high attack speed
give ideas and your findings let us work like a team and make a plan.
also im realy sorry about my horrible spelling

Blitz isn't suicide just gotta be sure you're far enough away that you can get out of the way first, then fire.
Although valiance is good too for mobility.

You can also avoid getting stunned if you have enough stun resistance, too bad there are no stun trinkets so you have to have UVs or use your sprite perk.

They don't seem resistant to Normal damage to me.

Damage Types During Battle

Tortodrone:
Normal and Elemental (Mostly normal, shard barrage attack seems to deal the elemental+shock)

Devilites:
Normal and Shadow

I haven't seen any pierce yet.
Has anyone tried ancient plate armor yet? It's got like 2x the defense of other non-plate armor sets. Despite the MSD med, you can probably tank the attacks better.

My thoughts!!! Pepperbox =

My thoughts!!!

Pepperbox = turtle domination

Been using hail driver/storm driver charge in conjunction with the pepperbox charge - the stray bullets help slow down the fiends. Normal damage seems to be the only thing they're not resistant to, so finally... after years of waiting... the pepperbox has a slight advantage over the blitz!!!

Two pentas is probably ideal. Normal defense is fine, though honestly I'd recommend stacking shock resistance. The fiends tear you a new one while you spasm. The stun is easy to deal with as long as you're careful with your dash use. Also try to stay a bit away from the corners in the level design. Tortodrones have no shame in taking all of your health before your friends can agro him.

There is no perfect solution, but just like any other monster you get better fighting it the more you do it :)

Good luck!

You mean that the OOO made a boss that doesn't get owned by blitz?
This update is amazing!

It takes a fair bit of skill to pull off the Pepperbox charges without getting clobbered senselessly, a welcome change after being so accustomed to mindlessly spraying Vanaduke with my Plague Needle. I've lost count of how many times I got cornered by the Tort until I was downed. It seems as though Tortodrones are immune to all forms of Minor status, so Mist Bombs are out of luck. Hail Driver, Glacius, Volcanic Pepperbox, a Flourish for the Fiends, and anything that can resist Shock and/or Stun is good for them Torts.

blitz needle still does more damage per shot despite the resistance.

SHOPPING:
- For only 300 CR (100 cr each) you can get 3 status remedies before the boss LOL. idc how they price them, these are friggin valuable.
- Pills are 500 cr each.
- +12Vita is 3k cr

____

Fiend Portals:
- The fiend portals apparently die after one attack (??) but have a delayed destruction, so hit and run.

Bombs:
- Rumor has it Vortex line doesn't work on the tortodrones themselves.
- I found running around like a headless chicken while dropping Nitronome seems to have a surprisingly good hitrate if you have aggro - they just keep running into the bombs. I got like 3-4 hits on both Tortodrones while aiming for the fiends while my team sat around dead before I ran into the stupid shock shard attack. Seriously, I can't tell when that move's about to happen >:[

Shields:
- Shield bash works
- Normal damage from tortodrone, shadow damage from fiend... Crest of Almire as a defensive choice??

Guns:
I am really not sure of a good gun choice here:
- Valiance: does neutral damage and has range+mobility, but that's expected.
- Callahan: kills slowly. Can interrupt devilites though.
- Iron Slug: loses in DPS and mobility to double-shot Valiance and cannot interrupt Tortodrone anyway, so that's a no.
- Blitz Needle: deals 'ineffective' damage on the tortodrones, but can spray the devilites.
- Fiery Pepperbox: deals neutral damage on the tortodrones, but does its neutral damage outdo Blitz's 'ineffective damage' shots? Wiki implies it does...
- Neutralizer: ..? This seemed to skip my mind so I haven't tried it yet - it might be a surprisingly safe choice to do normal double-shots since you can 'drop' them and run away, and the slow bullets can keep the devilites dodging. The charge might work alright..? Knockback doesn't seem to affect them (except for spark revive), so the only thing you need to lead is their attack movement.

9_9 I wish I could read their movement better, but it's not really something I can play too often lol.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

polaris helps a bit too. shock can stop them in their tracks while dashing and telegraphing. maybe supernova would do more damage, but shock makes it up for it. they also don't suffer from knockback.

Tortodrones be trippin!

My main goal fighting these things are to stay alive. Considering I'm an endgame player without any trinkets, and I can survive handling a torto all by myself in a corner, I recommend my loadout.

Ironmight plate set:
This provides high normal defense and average piercing defence, perfect for withstanding the multiple hazardous charges of the tortodrone.

Sprite perk:
ASI Med or MSI Med, either to negate the negatives of the plate set, or to help you move around much quicker. Then again, yall have trinkets so I won't judge.

Weapons:
Warmaster Rocket Hammer, Leviathan Blade, Argent Peacemaker, Nitronome. Hammer for pure damage, obviously. Levi blade can be very useful if you're swift on your feet and can get a charge off on a torto while they're spawning. AP for kiting, and Nitro for support in keeping those blasted devilites off of your back.

It's AoE attack may be one of the most annoying, but highly manipulative. If you are at around a 20 angle to the left or right of the tortodrones vision, it will find it easier to do it's AoE attack, rather than to continue chain smashing. If you can get it to smash you into a corner at the right angle, you have succeeded. When a torto normally does it's smash attack, you have an urge to run, sadly this will break your shield and possible damage you due to the multiple hits. The advantage to being that close in a corner is your shield will last longer since only one wave of the shock will damage you, the other two will just fly off of the map. Great time to get a levi charge off if you can, or just chain hammer, as I've singlehandedly slain a torto like this.

It seems that the tortos will

It seems that the tortos will take normal damage if you hit them in front. Anywhere else results in reduced damage.

*EDIT* Nevermind...had a few more runs since the post and Espeonage is correct.

It seems also that they suffer from the same glitch as the Royal Mini Jellies.

My Combuster charge attack did 610 initially with a normal hit color, then 3 149 explosions that seemed to set it on fire 2/3 or so of the time that were grey. Interesting. Then I got crushed because I was treating it like a Trojan in attack speed and telegraphing.

Those are threshold nuances that have been here forever. Deal too much and it shows up normally. Royal minis suffer from a different case (numbers display inaccurate effectiveness.)

The plan: 1) Achive status

The plan:
1) Achive status "Trapped in corner by massive robotic turtle"
2) Charge MAX dmg and ctr blitz
3) Unleash needles
4) spark rev after getting stunshockstomped. Repeat process with now enhanced dmg
5) ???
6) PROFIT

Thats my plan. Beat that!

Ok, ok, its pretty bad...

Here's a minor tip.

This is a hard one because it relies purely on luck and time, but I have been able to completely obliterate the Tortos with it before.

Try to find one of those Recon Flare pick ups. Due to their ability to decrease any monsters defense to 0, just a few hits from most weapons can take one down. I was in a party with a Blitzer before. I did this and he took the Tortos health down from near max to death.

Of course, this is something that will rarely drop which is why it isn't the most useful of all ways to fight.

Ok seriously this time.

I've found that the Grand Tortoise can take a lll 3 hits of the stomp and be on yellow, and it was only at level 2. Imagine how the omega ward would work, since torts do elemental damage.

- poomph you are wrong

grand tortose works well agenst stomp coz stomp is all about normal/stun its a full counter
also a gran tortose dosnt have 1 max bar of normal deffense, it has 1.5 of the max simular to ancient plate.
1 max deffense bar decreases dmg done by 50% what happends to Grand T. is that it takes around 75% or so and with the stun effect, it will take around 80% less dmg then normal shield...

omega ward would melt faster coz it has lot less normal deff, and no stun, ofcorse it would take more hits if you walk over the shards, but then again why would you do that unless you are pushed in it.

also almarian armor has 2 max normal deffenses on each peace.. it works like a charm in fight...

well after that im done with gathering the mats for the 4 shields (since i got them) im helping friends to get their mats. however i find kinda frustrating that if you get cornered by the tortodrone you cant take them out of you and they only get away after they are sure you are pretty dead.

tried:
levi charge
shield bump with plate shield nothing happened
even shadow cloak (but they can see you even if you are invisible)
if you die and have ER they still dont move and keep hitting you until you are dead again and have to use spark.

thats the only thing i find kinda annoying from them. so anyone have an idea on how to "push" or escape away from them if you get cornered? because i tried everthing but shield bash

Yeah curse doesn't work

My gran faust charges did nothing helpful.

And I've found just using combuster charges works nicely. That, and MSI high. I'd assume very high would be even better.
Movement is key, fire is just helpful for running away and still helping your team.

Just to be clear here.

Grand Tortoise isn't redundant? It actually has more defense than acient plate shield?
