Is it just me or is the mission literally the hardest thing in the entire game? Stuns and Shock at a massive radius, enough damage to make my shadow defense armor do LITERALLY NOTHING, almost literally instant melee attacks after those charges o' theirs in a game generally built on telegraphed moves.. Either I did something horrifically wrong or this thing was balanced with the assumption of infinite revives which sorta defeats the point of playing proper. Facerolling until the enemy falls, while successful, didn't feel like anything resembling a victory. For contrast, I've beaten a couple of Shadow Lairs so smoothly on the first try that I would have still had mist left to revive once or twice if need be. What gives?

Tortodrones are meant to be be incredibly strong. Combine that with Dark Rituals & you get this.

I'm not against content being

I'm not against content being hard, mind you. It just seems almost broken or something. If they had actual boss levels of HP like I expected, they'd be unstoppable. Instead they're.. regular enemies that are just stupidly unfair. If there's a strategy that makes them manageable, I'm all ears. But content that requires sparks and facerolling just seems poorly designed. I ain't claiming it's that just yet, it just feels that way on a cursory glance.

Do you remember winter

Do you remember winter holidays? They made the same, too many monsters. I prefer quality, not quantity. Look at vanaduke he is almost alone, but still challenge for many players.

its hard and its sopoust to be

you know why tortodrones where removed from beta at first place, coz their where so strong back in the days they would be stronger then vanaduke himself, a so far final boss in game.

they are ancient guardias they are sopoust to be strong, and they did live up to my expectations after 3 long years.
enjoy the fight if you will, i know i will have fun clashing with them once again

UH.................... are we playing the same thing? I found the Tortodrones fight very easy and unimpressive compared to the former Tortodrones. I was very sad after my first fight and even asked the party if that was WAY too easy seeing as how the original Torts were near unbeatable. Even after the buff the fight was still pretty easy. If you're finding this fight hard consider yourself lucky u never had to fight the original Tortodrones. You'd be whining all up and down the forums saying OOO is robbing you or cheating you.

My tip to Torto fighting:

I just got back from a fight against them. My advice to you is to play offensively. As much so as possible. (Yeah, ever think I'd say that?) I tried being defensive the first time but I just ended up dyeing more than actually fighting.

This fight is loaded in every direction with powerful projectiles and sky-rocket-starstorms-of-red-death-and-destruction, so dodging is difficult. Stun and shock certainly doesn't make it much easier. Most if not all attacks are extremely powerful so trying to stack up that defense isn't worth the effort. The best thing to do is to be sure you are dealing damage to the Tortos. You can't win if you don't!

Also, make sure to bring at least 5 sparks. Some may say that's a bit much but why not be safe? This is the maximum amount I have needed to survive so far. You may want more though.

Most importantly: use the extra damage during revives to your advantage! It's hard to avoid death so make something good from it! I have found myself dealing the most amounts of damage to Tortos after my revives, enough to bring some down shortly after one killed me.

This is my advice. You may think it's not the smartest option but I am a grunt for the most part. My offensive style is to just get it and kill everything in sight while completely ignoring damage dealt to myself. (Did I say it wasn't the smartest option?)

As for the difficulty. I don't think it's anywhere close to unbeatable, but certainly challenging. To be honest, I lose far more sparks against a normal mode Vanaduke than I do in this mission. (Yeah, I'm really bad against fighting flaming giants that drop lava on your face at random. What else can I say?)

Some difficulty tweaks out shortly

The Tortodrones themselves are meant to be pretty tough; however, their support monsters can also be pretty overwhelming right now. We will be increasing the length of time between respawns on all support monsters, making it more strategically viable to keep them down and out of the fight.

Also, all of the support monsters will now have a *chance* to drop health or pickups, where previously some did not.

Ooh yay

That means the devilites I take out before the drones get to my team will actually be more meaningful to the fight!

Thanks Crazyoddbaa. It's annoying when the party gets TPK'd and as they ER, the Silkwing reverses a large portion of the damage after respawning again.

Meh.

No amount of adjusting gate respawns will do anything as long as the gates instantly spawn a Devilite the moment they appear. Might wanna adjust their placement while you're at it considering how crippled the camera is in this fight. Heck, the fight just sucks in general. I expected a proper level and all I got was a laughably unfair slaughter followed by nothing. No warmup, no climax, just a wad.

Do the Tortodrones have some sort of invisible AoE attack? I keep dying for seemingly no reason at all. I doubt the post-charge sucker punch has a range that vast. Oh and uh, Bamz? "Offensive strategy coupled with making use of the offense boost gained on respawn" is better called "facerolling". An actual strategy implies that we're not losing horribly. ;p

Hey

Hey
If you had free revives, this couldn't be a challenge
If there weren't support monster this couldn't be hard
If tortodrones weren't like that, this couldn't be EPIC

Bah.

The only epic thing here is how cheap it is.

I think the difficulty is perfect. Like, at first I died a bunch of times (around 1-4 times skewed rightward with a mean of about 1.3) every battle but then I got over it. The last 6-10 fights I did went much better, and I didn't have to use any sparks.

You just have to reset your client every time to dodge the memory leak, then use guns and bombs to deal damage as torto walks towards you while making sure to slightly damage random devilites to confuse the healer.

@Orkorrior

I just log off of Spiral Knights, close it down, then restart it and log back in.

That solves the lag until I do another Torto run.

For me

I've done quite a lot of runs already and most of them I've had to use sparks. However, there are some times where I've been able to go through it perfectly without having to use a spark (although I do use the ER). In my opinion, it also depends on your party. How they play, what gear they have. Well, that's what I get out of it and it's just my speculation. If you don't agree with me, that's ok.
